Leaked Set Video Shows Charlie Cox in a New Daredevil Suit and It’s Not Red: Daredevil: Born Again

Charlie Cox might finally get back to his suit in next week’s Daredevil: Born Again, but it might not be what fans expected. The actor has only been seen as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in the season premiere and has since quit the life of vigilantism after the death of Foggy Nelson. However, the ending of the latest episode hints at him getting back to it.

The iconic red suit of Daredevil will be making a comeback, as seen in the trailers and teasers. However, leaked images from the show revealed that there is yet another variation of the suit, which is in black, calling back to the first season of the Netflix iteration, where he was still in his early days as a vigilante.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil began his tenure as a vigilante in a simple black suit and mask in order to blend into the night. He was very much a Batman-type but with lesser protection. It was a homemade frugal suit that Matt Murdock did what he could to protect himself with. His mask covered his eyes and half of his face.

However, he gets his iconic red suit by the end of season one when he meets Melvin Potter, a designer who created Wilson Fisk’s armor. After a deal with him, he gets a stronger and safer red suit. Melvin also creates a suit for Elektra and is forced to make a copycat Daredevil suit for Benjamin Pointdexter, a.k.a Bullseye, in season 3.

The last time fans saw Charlie Cox revert to his black suit was in season 3. That might happen again, as leaked set images from Daredevil: Born Again revealed Cox in a darker suit. This has led fans to wonder what the meaning of him choosing the black suit would be. However, there is still no sign of the logo.

The ending of Daredevil: Born Again episode four saw Matt resume his training and also revealed his armory with multiple masks. It will not be long before he dons his suit and mask again, especially after that intense conversation with Frank Castle.

As iconic as the frugal black suit is to Daredevil’s character, it was in no way a safe one. It was a homemade suit that did little to protect him and barely hid his identity. However, the meaning of the black suit changes when he reverts to it in season 3. Disillusioned by God after the events of The Defenders, Matt tries to restart his vigilantism from the ground up.

However, the black suit does not just indicate a do-over but also shows his state of mind. Matt is not in the right state when he reverts to the black suit, which reduces all forms of protection that the red one provides. It is his way of self-harm and punishment. As a fan pointed out on Reddit,

Charlie Cox’s Matt might be in a similar state in Daredevil: Born Again after the death of Foggy and Hector Ayala. Having an intense debate about ethics with Frank Castle after both have faced the trauma of losing a loved one seems to have changed something in Matt, and upcoming episodes will see just how bad it can get.

Daredevil: Born Again is available to stream on Disney+.
