Professional wrestler-actor John Cena is without a doubt one of the most popular and beloved wrestlers of all time. Even with his recent decision to turn heel after almost being a babyface for two decades, fans have embraced his new character. Cena attacked Cody Rhodes moments after winning the Elimination Chamber on March 3, 2025, and turned heel at the behest of The Rock.
John Cena, after turning heel, appeared on an episode of RAW on March 17, 2025, and explained his decision by explaining that his character change stems from the audience’s reaction. Cena went on to state that he has been the butt of an invisible joke for nearly fifteen years and had been bullied by the crowd into embracing that character, but he’s now done. The wrestler addressed the crowd that chanted ‘John Cena Sucks’;
I am not a babyface. I’m not a heel. I’m a human being.
Cena added that he has worked so hard and won so many matches, but fans have still disliked him for it. He shared that all fans ever do is take and only care about themselves and went on to target one kid in the crowd and said,
Everybody, including that one kid right there, is in a toxic, dysfunctional relationship. Oh, you don’t want to hear it? Is it too tough for you?
The kid who was pointed out by Cena was wearing his merchandise and appeared to be on the verge of tears. Cena’s segment has been viewed more than two million times in 12 hours.
No matter how much John Cena dislikes the fans or claims that he dislikes how his fans have treated him over the years, his meeting a specially abled fan in Morocco will never let him beat the babyface allegations. A user online shared a video of John Cena meeting a fan with a smile on his face and wrote,

Fans only had the nicest comments for John Cena after he broke his character to greet a fan. A lot of them mentioned that it’s hard to believe him as a heel when he goes and does something so sweet. Others commented that John Cena will always be the good guy.
John Cena’s father addressed the wrestler’s heel turn
16-time world champion John Cena’s decision to turn heel was not only for the audience but for his father too. John Cena Sr. recently spoke to Justin Barrasso for Undisputed, about his thoughts on his son turning heel and his upcoming retirement. He said,
Talk about a swerve. I was pretty well taken aback by that. That’s what makes this business so entertaining—when you think you know, somebody always changes the play.
Cena Sr. admits that he is a fan of Cody Rhodes, and he liked how Cena Jr.’s turning heel was executed.
He also noted that he cannot wait for their match at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. Cena’s father was asked about his son’s promo for Monday’s Raw, to which he shared,
He was direct, he was to the point, and he gave us his reasons for his actions. I thought it was extremely well done. I’m still amazed he and WWE kept this all under wraps.
The father of one of the greatest wrestlers is very proud of his son’s accomplishments, and talking about his retirement brings him close to teary eyes. He mentioned during the interview that John Cena has done so much to give back, including Make-A-Wish and so much more that no one knows about. He noted that he is very proud of him and the way he has accomplished it.
John Cena Sr. said that he understands that a lot of people don’t believe the wrestler when he says that he’s going to retire, but he knows his son, and if he says that it’s the end, then it is. He urged the fans to enjoy their time watching him do what he loves: wrestling.
