Speaking exclusively to The Sun’s TV Mag, the star revealed his exciting next step in the world of musicals.

He said: “I’ve got Panto at Christmas, and I’m writing a musical as well, so that’s what I’m doing in my spare time, what spare time I have.”

Asked further about the musical, Jason replied: “I’ve been told not to say what it’s about, but it is with Gary Barlow and Joe Stilgoe.”

It comes as Jason is hosting Big Night of Musicals by the National Lottery, which airs on BBC One tonight.

This celebration of musical theatre includes guests such as Vicky McLure, Daniel Mays, Michael Ball and Marisha Wallace.

He said: “Big Night Of Musicals is one where I just think: ‘What a privilege this is,’ and it’s funny because the producers talk to me like they’re the lucky ones to have me.

“They’re like: ‘Who else could keep this big room entertained?’

“And I just think: ‘Crikey, I should keep my mouth shut. This is an absolute dream job!’

“So, yeah, I just feel very lucky to be doing this, especially after all these years.”

Jason added: “It’s literally my favourite job of the year. I know it sounds like a cliché, but it’s not even a job.

“The team is so well organised and well put together. I know loads of the people who are performing and working there, whether it’s crew or cast.

“So it’s like a big reunion, you get to see all your pals.”

Elsewhere, the comedian discussed working on upcoming Christmas film Tinsel Town.

The all-star cast includes Kiefer Sutherland, Rebel Wilson, Danny Dyer and Sir Derek Jacobi.

Describing Kiefer, 58, as “good fun”, Jason continued: “Rebel Wilson is an absolute dream. She’s hilarious.

“Kiefer plays quite a serious part. He’s quite a serious man as well.

“Whereas I’m a full dame, I’m one of the ugly sisters, so I’m like a drag show reject. We’re having a really good time. In fact, the cast is great.

Danny Dyer and Katherine Ryan and Meera Syal, and Asif Chaudhry. It’s just an absolute laugh.

“I keep looking over at Kiefer. He just looks like he’s going: ‘Where am I? What am I doing in Wakefield?’

“And it’s minus two, and he’s dressed as Buttons.

“He’s probably wondering what he’s doing to himself. But no, it’ll be a really good fun Christmas.”
