It’s Time: Call of Duty Fans Unite to Demand the Resurgence of Beloved Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Mode Over Warzone 1 and 2

Activision has forever blessed us with its best first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty. The whole series is an absolute treat to play, and although most of the installments might feel a bit repetitive or boring, the story and characters in them are what pull the gamers in.

Activision has forever been proud of its battle royale from 2020, Call of Duty: Warzone, but one of their hidden gems has always been the foundation for the Warzone we enjoy now. Of course, we are talking about Call of Duty: Blackout. Let’s delve further.

Call of Duty: Blackout was the best battle royale in the franchise

Blackout was the first battle royale mode that Activision released back in 2018 as a part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. It is the fifteenth installment in the franchise, which was released in October for eighth-generation consoles and PC. It is the first CoD mainline game that launched without a single-player campaign and just focused on its multiplayer aspects.

One of the multiplayer elements was Blackout. It was the franchise’s first foray into the battle royale scene, and it introduced some pretty good aspects that even other popular battle royales at that time did not think about. Although it was just a small venture into battle royale, Blackout did not disappoint with its huge map and fast-paced gameplay.

While Blackout was well-received for its mechanics and CoD feel, the game failed to maintain its playerbase when Warzone was introduced to the world. Warzone was released in 2020, and it became the dominant battle royale in the franchise. While both of them follow a similar gameplay element with surviving on a big map and killing other players, they have some pretty huge differences.

The most important difference between Blackout and Warzone is that Warzone is free. It is not a game mode from another installment in the franchise, Warzone is its own standalone game, which is also accessible to a larger audience because of its free-to-play nature. Warzone also introduced the revolutionary gulag and buy-back system that allowed players to respawn in the battle royale again.

Warzone only took the lead because it received updates and newer maps

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently in a very bad situation right now. Although the game is not completely dead, its player count has declined significantly. Fans of the game are speculating that Warzone can never come back to the masterpiece it was, and instead of making Warzone better, they could rather focus their efforts on reviving Blackout.

Warzone’s current circumstances are just the product of a series of bad decisions made by Activision. Unpopular map changes and slower gameplay are just two of them. The entire battle royale outlook could change if Activision ever decides to bring back Blackout again.

With Warzone announcing its upcoming season, it is rather unlikely to see a revival of the 2018 game, but one thing we know for sure is that Blackout walked so that Warzone could run, and nothing would make us more happy if they decided to ever rekindle the best Call of Duty battle royale game mode.
