It’s a Miracle 1 Straw Hat Didn’t Lose His Sanity After a Past More Traumatic Than Nico Robin’s

Nothing beats One Piece when it comes to presenting emotionally well-written characters. In fact, with its long runtime that’s still going strong, you might think some characters would surely fall flat or feel like they’re just there to fill space, but no! Every single character in One Piece is so well crafted that they’ll all pull your heartstrings and make you heavily invested in their life story.

After all, who can forget the tragic backstories of Robin, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and the rest of the gang? Maybe some had deep childhood trauma, and some had devastating losses, but the pain is eternal! Each of their pasts is uniquely heartbreaking. But, believe it or not, there’s one Straw Hat member who’s been through hell and back, and yet, somehow managed to keep their sanity intact, that even Nico Robin couldn’t!

Brook must have had the most tragic past among other One Piece characters!

If we are talking about the sad backstories of One Piece characters, then Brook’s name would most definitely be one of them! Like, can you even imagine watching all your loved ones die right in front of you, but you’re powerless to blink? That is basically what Brook experienced, which can make any normal human being go insane. Even after that, things only got worse for Brook. When he finally came back to life, he found himself stuck sailing the seas with the skeletons of his former crewmates! And it went on for years.

Can you even imagine the amount of loneliness and guilt he must have been bearing all this time? It’s like being haunted by your own past while drifting around the world alone, surrounded by constant reminders of what he lost. That’s why Brook’s sufferings also add meaning to his pirate spirit and how close he is to his friends such as the Straw Hats. Thankfully, even after all that, he finally came across the Straw Hat Crew, who helped him move forward.

It’s crazy even to think that Brook didn’t lose his mind completely after all that he went through. Who knows what could have happened if the Straw Hats hadn’t met him? He’d probably still be drifting around, alone and forgotten. The fact that he’s still relatively sane is a testament to his strength and resilience, which are incomparable to anyone else’s. But how?

When you think about it, almost every other Straw Hat had someone to turn to after their respective tragedies. Nami had her village, Usopp had his crew and Kaya, Zoro had his village and then Yosaku and Johnny, and Jim had a whole bunch of relatives. Even Chopper had Kureha, and Franky had Iceberg, his town, and his crew. But Brook? He was completely alone, stuck in the dark for over 40 years.

That’s what makes Brook’s story so insane. That is a ridiculously long time to be alone, and it’s amazing that he didn’t lose himself completely. So whenever we see he’s still able to function normally, make music, and joke around, it just makes every One Piece fan breathe out a sigh of relief.
