There comes a time in every 20-somethings life when an eye cream should be a key skincare component. Even though I’m officially in my late 20s (oh, where did the time go?) I’ve been implementing eye creams in my routine for a long time now and for many reasons. After spending countless nights staying up to finish term papers in college to parting my life away in my early 20s, the delicate skin under my eyes has gotten darker and more sunken in over the years. And while I may not be partying like I just turned 21 anymore, late nights and lack of (good) sleep still take a toll on my skin, especially my eyes. `
As a beauty writer, I’m eager to try almost any product because… well, why not? But especially eye creams. Like cleansers, I consider eye creams to be one of those products that either work really well or don’t work at all. Because the skin is so delicate in that area, I find it’s easier to tell when an eye cream works for me and when it doesn’t. Until recently, there was only one (maybe two) under-eye product I truly enjoyed and found myself repurchasing repeatedly. But since I was lucky enough to be tasked with testing Augustinus Bader’s new The Rich Eye Cream, this new gem in my beauty cabinet might take the cake.
Most skincare-obsessed beauty writers adore Agustinus Bader products. Their formulas are backed by research and are very effective on all skin types, and the deep blue and gold packaging is so luxe. The Rich Eye Cream is nothing short of what one would expect from the German skincare brand. It’s formulated with the signature TFC8® technology that helps to support the skin renewal process. Which is very much appreciated in an area as delicate as the undereyes. Next to the patent ingredient that all Augutinus Bader products have, The Rich Eye Cream is made with a Matrikine anti-wrinkle complex to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles over time, wild yellow gentian root extract, reishi extract, and a low molecular weight of hyaluronic acid that penetrates deeper into the skin.
While I love the few Augustinus Bader products I have used, I was skeptical about this one because of the price and what it is. As I said before, eye cream is one of those things that is either hit or miss. That’s not to say I expected it to miss, but more so if it would be world-changing enough to justify the price. Because $205 is not cheap in the slightest. Like all Agustinus products I’ve tried, this one was a pleasure to open. The packaging was nice and had a good amount of weight, along with the gold applicator, which didn’t feel flimsy or cheap.

Once I twisted open the top and touched its consistency, I started to understand why it costs so much. This is the most creamy eye cream I’ve ever tried. And trust me when I say that’s a good thing. No matter the brand, you don’t need more than a pea-sized amount of an eye product. With The Rich Eye Cream, you could use even less if possible. This product is the definition of a little goes a long way. It doesn’t take much for it to bring the look of life (and, in my case, rest) back into the eyes.
But what makes this a gem of a product is how hydrating and moisturizing it is. I had no idea how dry the skin around my eyes felt until I started using this and stopped to see a difference. The Rich Eye Cream gives delicate skin a moist, plumping boost that the rest of your skincare can’t. Because it is so rich, it’s usually something I would only apply in the evening time. I have used it a couple of times in the morning if I’m going barefaced, but personally, it’s not the skincare product I would choose to wear under makeup — although you can! Honestly, it sits beautifully under concealer, but considering how thick the consistency is already, I found it to be a little uncomfortable for my liking.
While $205 is a very hefty price tag for a skincare product, it could be worth it if maintaining your under-eye skin is at the top of your skin concerns. Since it doesn’t take much product to apply for each use, one jar could last you well over six months. You can get the new Rich Eye Cream at AugustinusBader.com.
