A MAN in his 60s has passed away following a work-related incident today.
The man died after reportedly working on roadworks in Kilkenny City.
Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene in the Kennyswell Road area at around 11am.
Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was reported that he was part of staff working on the roads, on the R695, when the incident happened.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the road remains closed at this time.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has noted that it is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a work-related incident that occurred in the Kennyswell Road area of Kilkenny city on Tuesday 1st July 2025 at approximately 11am.
“A male in his 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The scene remains preserved for technical examination.
“The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified and are investigating the matter.”
Maria Dollard, Deputy Mayor and Green Party Councillor in Kilkenny city said: “It’s a tragedy for the family of the man who lost his life and for something like this to happen in the middle of the city.
“The importance of work-related safety can’t be overstated.”
She also expressed her sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of the man.
