The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) invites students to apply for their Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

Location: South Africa (at ECSA-accredited institutions)
Types of IMESA Bursaries Available
IMESA is offering two types of bursaries:
1. Bursary Scheme A (Non-IMESA Members)
For full-time students pursuing Civil Engineering or related infrastructure engineering disciplines.
2. Bursary Scheme B (Dependents of IMESA Members)
For children/dependents of IMESA members (with a minimum of 5 years membership), studying Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Coverage and Benefits
- Covers tuition fees and books (up to R50 000).
- Mentorship provided.
- Encouragement to participate in IMESA activities.
- Payment is made directly to the institution within 60 days upon receipt of the account statement.
Eligibility Criteria
Scheme A Applicants:
- Must be studying full-time towards a Civil Engineering degree or related field.
- Must have completed first year and be entering second year or higher in 2026.
- Must be at an ECSA-accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Must have proven financial need.
Scheme B Applicants:
- Must be a child or dependent of an IMESA member (minimum 5-year membership).
- Must be studying full-time towards a Civil Engineering degree or related field.
- Must have completed first year and be entering second year or higher in 2026.
- Must be at an ECSA-accredited tertiary institution.

Required Documents:
- Certified ID copy
- Certified copy of 2025 mid-year results
- Statement of academic progress from institution
- Affidavit of parents’/guardians’ income and financial situation
Important Notes
- Bursary recipients must notify IMESA of any other bursaries held.
- IMESA does not guarantee employment, but encourages graduates to consider careers in Local Government.
