I’m a teen mum who’s doing up my council house using B&Q bargains – I love it but everyone has the same complaint

A TEEN mum has been slammed after getting a council house.

Loula Wood, from the UK, finally had her own home and decided to transform the council house before moving in.

Taking to social media, she said: “We have 3 days left until we need to move into our council house.”

“So spend the day with us decorating our new council house.

She went to B&Q with her partner to transform the home, buying a mixture of paint and wallpaper.

When she got to her new home she was eager to get started with decorating straight away.

Loula decided to switch up her plain white skirting boards and decided to paint them black instead.

She used tape in an attempt to keep the lines clean but as she wasn’t a professional decorator she still slipped up and had to redo it.

The teen mum explained: “I actually had to go over it later, because I ended up painting the walls white, and then the white flickered onto the black, so I had to redo it. So that was really frustrating.”

She also pointed out that the walls had lots of marks on them so she was eager to get it finished.

The walls looked like they had something spilled all over them.

“How does it get like that?” she wondered. “On the stairs as well?”

She then went on to paint her daughter’s room a deep purple colour using a roller as well as her own bedroom in a cool-toned grey.

After a day of hard work, the walls were finally finished.

“I think there’s definitely room for perfection, but it’s good enough for now,” she explained.

The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @loulawood with over 286k views and 9,000 likes.

How to do your council house up on the cheap

  • Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
  • Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
  • For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
  • A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
  • Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards.

People were quick to take to the comments and many seemed to have the same complaint.

One person wrote: “State of that painting!”

Another commented: “Why are you painting the skirting boards black.”

“My OCD is going wild seeing all the paint over the skirting boards and ceilings like why,” penned a third.

Meanwhile, others were quick to share their support, a fourth said: “Well done, making a house a home isnt easy!”

“Well done you’re doing great. Such a good feeling being able to decorate your first home,” claimed a fifth.
