Suzanne Collins is best known for her best-selling novel series The Hunger Games, which was adapted to the big screen in 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence. It’s safe to say that it is perhaps the most popular young-adult dystopian story during that period, one that became a cultural phenomenon that inspired a lot of other works in that same genre.

For fans of the franchise looking into the same theme, Collins has another book series that people might like. In fact, it’s not as popular as The Hunger Games trilogy, but they both talk about war and rebellion and their repercussions.
Suzanne Collins uses two of her best novel series to discuss war and its effects
While speaking with David Levithan via Scholastic for the launching of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Suzanne Collins revealed why she returned to the city of Panem in a different year.
I have two worlds, the Underland (the world of The Underland Chronicles series) and Panem (the world of The Hunger Games). I use both of them to explore elements of just war theory. When I find a related topic that I want to examine, then I look for the place it best fits.
This meant that when she had the idea or story in mind, she tried to examine it and weighed in on which place she would like to tackle the issues, and it so happened that the “state of nature debate of the Enlightenment period” perfectly fitted in a narrative that focused on Coriolanus Snow, the tyrannical President of Panem.
Now, her middle-grade book series The Underland Chronicles talks about unnecessary wars. Growing up with a military father, Collins already had an understanding of war, its cost as well as consequences. If The Hunger Games was about uprising, this other novel series is about needless wars becoming required battles to fight for because people kept the violence going until it’s out of control.

This series of five epic fantasy novels was published between 2003 and 2007 which followed Gregor and his adventures in the subterranean world under New York City. For a middle-grader book, it has a wide-ranging discussion on biological warfare, genocide, and military intelligence.
So why does Collins write novels about wars? She admitted that one of her goals was to publish war-appropriate stories for kids of all ages as they must have social awareness.
Suzanne Collins published new Hunger Games prequel book

Revitalizing the hype on her most popular book series, Collins published a new Hunger Games novel called Sunrise on the Reaping (via Variety). It is another prequel to the original trilogy which takes place four decades after the events in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Fans will be glad to know that it is also getting a movie adaptation which is slated to premiere in November 2026.
The Hunger Games is currently available to watch on Hulu.
