But there’s nothing worse than inviting guests over and realising at the very last minute that your fence could do with some serious TLC.

However, there’s an easy way to give your old wooden fence an epic makeover without forking out a fortune – and it takes just 15 minutes.

Taking to TikTok, one homeowner, only known as Lydia, revealed how she spruced up her old fence on the cheap thanks to a wallet-friendly Wickes buy.

Raving about the bargain find, Lydia, from Bath, said: ”I have finally found a product that takes your old grey fence and turns it into a genuine wood colour.”

Retailing for just £13, Barrettine Wood Reviver rapidly rapid renovates wood that’s been damaged by the harsh UV rays over time.

The affordable garden buy will brings back fresh wood colour in just minutes, leaving it ready to coat with a protective finish, the description online reads.

Great for sheds, fences, decking and garden furniture, the wood reviver contains bio-degradable organic acid.

According to Wickes, 1l of the product is enough to cover 4 m2 – so if your fence is slightly larger, you may wish to snap up more than one bottle.

When purchasing the product, you will also need to ensure you have brushes for the application process.

”The first thing you have to do is wet your fence with water. It says not to use pressure washer to clean the wood prior to application,” Lydia said in the video where she demonstrated the process.

When applying the white liquid, the proud homeowner made sure she got the product on the edges of the panels too.

Once done, Lydia then set the timer for 15 minutes.

”It said to rub the area with a dampened non-metal brush. I washed it all off, let it dry and oh my goodness, look how nice this is.”

The once grey and weathered fence now looked brand new, boasting a stunning wooden colour that’s sure to make your neighbours envious.

How to get algae off fences

ABS Fencing shared a list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to cleaning green algae off your fence.

  • Don’t use household mould or mildew remover sprays as these are generally intended for use on hard surfaces indoor.
  • Don’t use bleach in the garden, it kills a lot more than the mould.
  • Don’t try sanding back the top surface of the wood, as algae will just regrow back.
  • Don’t bother with power hosing – that only opens up the timber grain and allows more water inside, making the problem worse down the line.
  • Do use white vinegar mixed with hot water in a spray bottle and work it in with a brush, leave for 30 mins or more, then hose down.
  • Do repaint when dry with good quality fence paint.

”If I was your Wickes, I would increase your stock levels of this – because it is incredible, I am telling everyone.”

Uploaded just one day ago under the username @life_at_lydias, the jaw-dropping makeover has already taken the internet by storm.

In just 24 hours, the clip has one Lydia an impressive 122k views, close to 1,400 likes, with dozens flooding to comments.

One fan said: ”Looks loads better than painted.”

Someone else reminded: ”Don’t forget to put uv protection coat otherwise you will need to clean it like this every year.”

Even the mega retailer chimed in, commenting: ”Obsessed with the end result.”

Another said: ”Great job! Looks fab. I’ve found creocote light brown is a decent product. £14 for 4 litres.

”Doesn’t flake as it’s not paint, makes the grain pop. Gives it that natural look last for a few years.”
