Jared Padalecki is best known for his role as Sam Winchester in Supernatural, which ran for fifteen seasons. After the show concluded in 2020, Padalecki and co-star Jensen Ackles have been vocal about a reunion. The former on-screen brothers will reunite for the upcoming fifth season of The Boys, created by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.

During a recent interview, Padalecki finally broke the silence about the upcoming reunion with Ackles, who has already played Soldier Boy on the hit superhero series. However, Padalecki’s comments about his appearance in the series have me concerned as a fan of both Supernatural and The Boys. Here is what Padalecki had to say and why his comments scare me.
Jared Padalecki breaks silence on Supernatural reunion in The Boys season 5
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles players brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in all fifteen seasons of Supernatural. The co-stars have been vocal about working with each other in the future and series creator Eric Kripke.

The group’s wishes will be finally fulfilled when they reunite for the upcoming fifth season of The Boys and will be joined by former co-star Misha Collins. During a recent chat with Business Insider, Padalecki opened up about the impending reunion with his Supernatural family.
I don’t know what we’re doing. I don’t know if we like, bump into each other. I don’t know much about it. They’re still trying to write and figure out who’s gonna be there. But it’ll be the end of this month.
Padalecki made the above statement, providing some insight on his part in the show’s fifth season, which was recently confirmed with a social media post (via X).
However, Padalecki admitted that he was unsure whether he would be sharing the screen with Ackles and Collins. Moreover, Padalecki’s exact role in the upcoming season also remains in flux with the actor’s comments suggesting that it was still being written. Hence, it is safe to say that nothing is set in stone except that Padalecki will appear in The Boys season 5.
Jared Padalecki’s The Boys season 5 comments have me scared for the series
As a fan of Supernatural, I am looking forward to Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins sharing the screen in The Boys season 5. However, from Padalecki’s comments, it is evident that his role is still being written and there is no guarantee that the actor will appear alongside Ackles’ Soldier Boy.

Furthermore, The Boys already has a large cast of characters, with the overall storyline headed for conclusion with the fifth and final installment. In recent seasons, the main conflict between the titular group and The Seven has somewhat stagnated. As a result, the final season should focus mainly on Butcher’s desire to kill Homelander.
Therefore, how the cast of Supernatural fits into the overall narrative without derailing the primary conflict remains to be seen. Similarly, the later seasons of Supernatural were heavily criticized for too much fan service, including the series finale. As a result, something similar could happen with the cast’s reunion in The Boys, taking the focus away from the main cast.
Padalecki’s comments suggest that he and Collins were boarded without having a clear idea of the characters they would play. Moreover, with writing still in progress, it is possible that even Kripke does not have a clear image of what he wants to achieve with the Supernatural reunion. Therefore, I am very concerned about the Supernatural cast joining The Boys season 5.
Supernatural is streaming on Netflix and The Boys on Amazon Prime Video.
