“I have a horse that changes sex”: George R.R. Martin Firmly Believes His Game of Thrones Books Are Perfect Barring 2 Minor Errors

George R.R. Martin is widely renowned as being one of the most legendary visionaries in the history of time, having created a fantasy world so epic and vast that one could spend eternities navigating through it and still end up baffled at the iconic twists and turns.

To say the least, his Game of Thrones world is regarded as nothing short of perfect by many. In fact, when it comes to the brainbox himself, Martin also considers his GoT books perfect—all except for two minor flaws that even his eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but point out.

Over the course of the numerous decades that George R.R. Martin has served the world as one of the finest storytellers of all time, he has introduced his fans to numerous different worlds, each with peaking respective storylines of their own. But among all of them, one that never ceases to amuse fans is none other than Game of Thrones.

If anything, that one book series, which has a fan-following in millions, is so bemusing with all its mysterious elements that readers could hardly find any problems or mistakes with the same. However, even though author Martin himself called the series perfect, he also couldn’t help but admit the few minor mistakes some fans pointed out.

During an interview shared by the Wheeler Centre on YouTube held at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo, Martin talked about the same, explaining how some eagle-eyed fans pointed out two minor errors in his fantasy book series. When the interviewer asked him to comment on whether he considered GoT perfect, the author went on to say:

I think so, pretty much, yeah. I am bad with eye color, but that’s what Elio and Linda are for. They correct me on my eye color. I have a horse that changes sex. He’s not supposed to change sex or she is not supposed to change sex. She just seems to do so, actually.

For the record, the horse that Martin referenced here was Bran’s horse, who, in one of the most humorous errors in the book series, seems to change gender. As he went on to explain while suggesting it was a detail he forgot or didn’t catch during the writing process: “I think it was Bran’s horse, actually. It changes from a mayor to a guilding or something between books, so that was pointed out to me by my fans.

Both of these mistakes have inevitably made their way into being recognized and pointed out by some of the most hawk-eyed fans worldwide. But, well, for what it’s worth, the 76-year-old George R.R. Martin is only a human himself, and everybody makes mistakes, so fans might as well let the mastermind go on this one.

For the record, George R.R. Martin does acknowledge you “eagle-eyed” fans!

Continuing during the interview, besides acknowledging that he did make some minor mistakes even with his most fantastical saga to date, Martin also made one other thing clear: He was more than just aware of his eagle-eyed fans, who had ostensibly made him more cautious about the stuff he talks about in his mystical lore.

George R.R. Martin said:

My fans are all very eagle-eyed, alright? They miss nothing… You bloody bastards.

To say the least, all of this is a further reminder that even the most meticulous authors can make mistakes, and the fan-beloved author of A Song of Ice and Fire is no exception. And, for the record, the visionary does still love his fans, so they might as well keep up with their good work!
