I Don’t Expect ‘The Beginning After the End’ to Be the Next ‘Demon Slayer’ but It Can’t Be That Bad

Thanks to the unprecedented success of Solo Leveling anime, manhwa adaptations have become all the rage. Now that fans know that a Manhwa can get proper treatment with exceptional animation if it has enough hype, every fandom wishes to get the same treatment.

However, not everyone is lucky in that aspect, and maybe the same will happen with The Beginning After the End. It is hands down one of the most highly beloved Manhwa, but, it will not become the next Solo Leveling, and it is obvious from its trailer.

I definitely do not expect a Demon Slayer’s level of animation, which is not even the case for many other famous anime franchises. But what I also did not expect was for The Beginning After the End anime to have a very generic Isekai anime vibe.

The hurdles of The Beginning After the End anime adaptation

The Beginning After the End or TBATE anime adaptation is going to face some very steep challenges, surpassing which will be a difficult feat. First of all, the adaptation is being handled by Studio A-Cat, an animation studio established in the 1990s with a few renowned shows to back its legacy.

TBATE is definitely going to be one of its most famous productions after its work on shows like Battle Game in 5 Seconds. The studio is not known for its great animation, which definitely could have changed for TBATE. However, from the trailer, that does not seem to be the case.

The art style looks very ordinary, relying mostly on still frames and visual effects to create an illusion of motion. Apart from that, the color scheme looks generic and does not create any excitement that will make me expect something more than what I get from every seasonal Isekai anime.

Perhaps the worst aspect of all is the very obvious and not very smooth use of CGI. The moment of Arthur meeting Sylvia would not be as appealing because, from what I could see, the whole body of Sylvia is created with CGI. And it is not even subtle, but very in your face, making her look clunky.

TBATE still has the potential to be good despite its weak start

The animation is definitely not anything that will capture you right away like it did with Demon Slayer. But I believe there is still hope if other factors are taken care of properly.

TBATE’s strength lies in its storytelling and character development, particularly that of its protagonist, Arthur. If the anime manages to maintain that while adjusting the plot progression and quickening the pace, the anime should be successful enough to have a better season 2.

There is also a chance that once this season becomes a huge hit, the project might move to a bigger production house or get more budget. But everything is just speculation as we can only understand what might be the scenario after the anime releases.

Even though I have criticisms about the very slow-burn nature of this story, I’m very excited about the anime. Let’s hope things are not as bad as they seem, and the anime will be better than its trailer.
