“I could legitimately see Oda writing this”: Mihawk’s Bloodline Reveal Shouldn’t Be Surprising After What One Piece Did With Ace

The strongest swordsman in the One Piece world, Dracule Mihawk, is a mystery that almost every One Piece fan has tried to solve at least once. From his unprecedented skills as a master swordsman to his journey in the world of pirates, Eiichiro Oda has kept everything hidden and is waiting for the right moment to make Mihawk significant to the central narrative.

One such mystery about Mihawk’s character is his bloodline, which is quite a big deal in One Piece. While some speculate that Mihawk is somehow related to Imu, the main antagonist, others speculate that he is a Celestial Dragon who waged a war against his own community. However, there is one speculation that points out that Mihawk is actually the son of Shakky and Rayleigh.

There are a lot of different aspects that contribute to this speculation, but there is one that negates it completely. It’s Shakky’s lineage as a part of the Kuja tribe. According to the lore, women from the Kuja tribe can only give birth to females, and thus invalidate the theory. But the concept of birth is a big confusing element in One Piece and the biggest example of it is Ace.

The theory about Mihawk being Shakky and Rayleigh’s son might be false

Although Dracule Mihawk has been a significant character considering his role as the strongest swordsman in One Piece, not much is known about him, his past, or his future goals. While these things are important, the one aspect about him that is more important to One Piece fans is Mihawk’s bloodline and its connection to the story.

For a long time, it has been speculated that Mihawk is actually the son of Shakky and Rayleigh. He shares a physical resemblance to both of them, and he is a swordsman just like Rayleigh. Not only that, it also adds a new angle to his historic rivalry with the Emperor of the Sea, Red-Haired Shanks, who sailed with Rayleigh on Roger’s ship.

While this theory feels promising, the biggest issue with it is that Shakky is a member of the Kuja tribe, and it has been specifically stated by Eiichiro Oda in the One Piece narrative that women from the Kuja tribe cannot have male children. This has been going on since the establishment of the tribe and as of yet, there have been no confirmed exceptions.

Ace’s birth might support Dracule Mihawk’s bloodline theory

Considering the facts about the women of the Kuja tribe, the theory about Mihawk being the son of Shakky and Rayleigh feels farfetched. However, the concept of birth in One Piece is something that sometimes even defies logic. The biggest example of this in One Piece is Portgas D. Ace, the son of Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Rouge.

When the Navy and the World Government were out to hunt Roger’s son and kill him, Rouge protected him by carrying him for 20 months. She defied nature and proved her love for her son by sacrificing herself. It was truly a miracle that shocked One Piece fans to the core and established the narrative that childbirth can sometimes defy logic.

Thus, if Ace’s mother can carry him for 20 months, there is a big possibility that Shakky could give birth to a son.

And while there are many other elements that add more substance to the theory, the intriguing twist in the birth of a child by Oda makes the most sense. One Piece fans will find out more about Mihawk’s lineage once he becomes the central character of the story.
