Helldivers 2’s Next Crossover Needs to Be With a FromSoftware Franchise Because It Just Makes Sense

There’s no denying the fact that Helldivers 2 was one of the hottest live-service titles to release in 2024. While it was bombarded with controversies, developer Arrowhead has turned around the ship, and managed to reignite the interest with a number of incredible additions to the game.

A few months ago, Helldivers 2 collaborated with the now-defunct Killzone franchise. It was a success but wasn’t free from flaws as gamers were a bit concerned over its pricing. However, now gamers are busy wondering which game Helldivers 2 will collaborate with. While Arrowhead hasn’t revealed anything, we believe it’s time for the studio to contact FromSoftware.

Helldivers 2 and Armored Core are a perfect match

Let’s be honest, given the popularity of franchises such as Dark Souls and Elden Ring, we all associate FromSoftware with creating Soulslike titles. However, many don’t know that the developer isn’t just creating some challenging games; it’s also bringing mecha action with Armored Core.

Unlike Elden Ring and many other Soulslike, the Armored Core franchise is heavily based on the idea of simulation. Gamers can construct powerful mecha and use them to dominate their opponents on the battlefield! That’s not all; the title brings tons of challenges to overcome and forces players to strategize in the best way possible.

While it’s a beloved series, it hasn’t managed to achieve the same levels of popularity as FromSoftware’s other titles. What better way would there be to change that than by collaborating with 2024’s most popular live-service game, Helldivers 2?

Seriously, who wouldn’t love some mechanized warfare on the battlefields of Super Earth? We could see gamers using customizable mechs in Helldivers 2 that are inspired by the FromSoftware franchise against Automatons, the Illuminate, and other enemies. All these mechs can also have some lethal load-outs, allowing gamers to add shields, weapons, and other equipment.

It’s not just bringing mechs into Helldivers 2; Arrowhead can also give us some Armored Core enemies. These can include a number of things such as AC units, mechanized war machines, and other bosses. Armored Core-inspired weapon skins, armor sets, and especially Stratagem would be just the cherry on top.

Helldivers 2 initially planned to bring teams of five

Helldivers 2 is definitely one of the best co-op games that’s enjoyed when there’s a full squad of players. However, many in the community have felt that the gameplay would’ve felt much better if Arrowhead allowed teams of five.

In a Q&A session, ex-Helldivers 2 design director Patrik Lasota gave the community various details about the title and revealed that Arrowhead initially wanted to feature teams of five players. Even though the testing was done in this format, the developers had to change plans due to the overall gameplay mechanics and balancing.

Lasota explained that if there’s a team of four and a fifth player joins, the team ends up spilling into a three-player group, and a two-player group wrecking coordination. However, if there are five people, and someone else joins, there ends up being two separate groups, which harms teamwork.

For Arrowhead, the main issue was ensuring that all five players in the squad were having fun, and there was always some kind of imbalance. Someone is always just left out, standing and not taking part in the action.

With that said, would you like to see a Helldivers 2 x Armored Core crossover? Let us know in the comments below.
