Heartache as motorcyclist killed in horror Dublin crash with tractor-trailor & gardai close busy airport road for exam

A MOTORCYCLIST, aged in his 60s, has died following a horror crash involving a tractor-trailor in Co Dublin this morning.

The horrific collision took place on the Old Airport Road in Collinstown at around 10:50am this morning.

The motorcyclist was brought to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai confirmed that there were no other injuries reported following the collision.

The road has been closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions are in place but road users are warned to plan their route accordingly and allow extra time for travel.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the moments leading up to the crash has been asked to assist gardai in their investigation.

In a statement this afternoon, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10:30am and 11:15am this morning are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Santry Garda Station on 01 666 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”

The tragic news comes after it was confirmed that the man killed in a crash in Co Westmeath on Wednesday was an American tourist.

Christopher Dedera, who was aged in his 60s and from Texas, died in the two-vehicle road collision near Ballinalack.

He was rushed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, where he later died from his injuries.

It is believed that one line of inquiry is that Mr Dedera may have had a medical episode while driving.

Paying tribute Councillor Paul Hogan said: “The local community are very saddened at this tragedy.

“I want to praise the emergency services who attended the scene.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with everyone concerned.”

Sinn Fein Councillor David Jones said: “My condolences go to the man’s friends and family at this sad time.

“It’s always an unfortunate situation when you hear of another road traffic incident.

“This highlights the fact that the N4 is in bad need of an upgrade, and this can’t come quickly enough.”
