‘He didn’t know I was a tennis player’ – Wimbledon star dating man she met in London coffee shop

A WIMBLEDON tennis star revealed she met her boyfriend at a coffee shop in London.

Danielle Collins, 31, reached the Australian Open final in 2022.

Her best result on the court at Wimbledon was a fourth-round run in 2024.

But arguably her best result at Wimbledon came away from the court entirely.

Because it was during a trip to the UK a few years ago that the American met her man.

Collins headed out for a drink before flying back home to the United States after a previous year’s exit.

And it proved a life-changing decision.

Former college athlete Bryan Kipp was in the coffee shop and they hit it off before starting dating soon after.

Collins previously told the Tennis Channel: “We have been going out for a while now.

“We met at a coffee shop in London so that was pretty exciting. I didn’t think I would meet someone at a coffee shop.

“Who would have thought? Just after the tournament, Wimbledon.

“He didn’t know anything about tennis, and he didn’t know I was a tennis player, which was really nice.

“He was actually a bigger fan of golf and so he said, ‘Well I really like golf. I don’t really know much about tennis.’

“And I was like, ‘Yes! That’s so exciting.’

“It’s fun to be around someone that has interests in other things and who’s not as familiar with the sport because you get to learn and grow with them and help them.”

Kipp joined Collins on the court for the champion’s photoshoot when his girlfriend won the Charleston Open in 2024.

She added: “We haven’t had a lot of time on the court for me to teach him because we just don’t find enough time cause we’re doing golf and he’s also at my matches a lot and he’s working.

“But in the future, I’m hoping we’ll play like the husband-wife doubles. I explained to him that this is a big deal in the tennis world so hopefully that doesn’t tear us apart.

“He is very competitive. He was a football player at Columbia.

“Very smart, engineer major. So, I’m more kind of like the jock in the relationship, and he’s definitely more of the cerebral one.”

Collins was planning to retire from tennis at the end of last season.

The world No54 revealed starting a family was “one of her biggest goals outside of tennis”.

And amid struggles with endometriosis – which can affect fertility – she opted to call time on her tennis career.

But she made a U-turn to tell fans of her change in plans after a setback in her hopes of having a baby.

As a result, until she has further clarity around her personal hopes, Floridan Collins continues to play on the circuit.

She took a cheeky swipe at fans who booed her at the Australian Open, smacking her bum and blowing kisses at them before taunting them on her holidays.

And in March she adopted a dog that had been involved in a car accident – and named it Crash.
