Harrison Ford is busier than ever at an age when many actors are scaling back on their work. The Raiders of the Lost Ark icon gave a cryptic response about retirement at the season 2 red carpet premiere of his Yellowstone prequel series, 1923.
“When will you know it’s time to take a step back and just hang out at home with your beautiful wife,” Entertainment Tonight reporter Cassie Dilaura asked Harrison, 82, referring to his wife, Calista Flockhart on Wednesday, February 19. He simply responded, “When you forget my name.”
That’s not going to be happening anytime soon, as the actor is everywhere these days.
In addition to starring in Paramount +’s 1923, showing off his comedic chops in Apple TV+’s Shrinking and appearing on the silver screen in Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, Harrison is more in demand than ever.
The Star Wars legend described this chapter of his career as “stupid … I’m a little but too everywhere for my sensibilities.” However, he told ET that the work he’s been pitched has been too good to pass up.
“I ran into a vein of really good writing, and I thought I’d take advantage of it. I’m really … I’m glad I did. But it’s kind of crazy,” Harrison admitted.
He returns as Jacob Dutton, the ancestor of Yellowstone’s John Dutton III, in 1923‘s much-anticipated season 2. Starring opposite Oscar winner Helen Mirren as Jacob’s wife, Cara Dutton, the new season premieres on February 23.
The series was the brainchild of Yellowstone cocreator and writer Taylor Sheridan, who is married to Helen, 79. The second season will also be the last for the show.
When Cassie told Harrison that costar Brandon Sklenar said he needed tissues for how the series wraps up, the Working Girl star replied, “I haven’t seen it,” when asked if he got emotional about the finale episode.
“I was there and it’s great,” Harrison admitted on a more serious note. “It’s very strong … It’s a very strong season.”
When asked if he’d like to keep the 1923 story going should the show end up getting a season 3, Harrison cryptically answered, “I just work here. Taylor tells me when he’s got a story.”
The Chicago, Illinois, native opened up about his gratitude for his long career when he was honored with the Career Achievement Award at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. Proud wife Calista, 60, was looking on from the audience.
“I’m really happy to be here tonight, to see what our business is turning into and all of the talented people who are getting opportunities that probably would not have existed in the early part of my career. I’m very happy about that,” the Blade Runner star old the crowd.
He continued, “I’m here because of a combination of luck and the work of wonderful directors, writers, filmmakers. I feel enormously lucky. I’m happy for this honor and I appreciate it very much. I want to thank my lovely wife, Calista Flockhart, who supports me when I need a lot of support — and I need a lot of support.”
