A POPULAR hairdresser has announced its closure after 17 years in business, leaving locals shocked.
Elegance Hair Salon in Galway has shut its doors for the final time this week.

Located in Oranmore, it has been a favourite for many locals for years.
Now, after 17 years in business, the owner has closed the doors for the last time.
Miriam, the owner of the salon, announced the closure in June.
In a post on social media, she wrote: “Goodbye is never easy. We’re heartbroken to close Elegance on June 28th after 17 years of love and dedication.
“Thank you to all our wonderful customers and loyal staff for being part of the journey.
“We are most grateful for the memories and the opportunity to serve you. Thank you for your loyalty and support.
“With love and gratitude, Miriam.”
She asked for customers who still had vouchers to contact her.
After the salon closed on June 28, she shared a final goodbye to her followers.
In another post, she wrote: “My heartfelt thanks to the many talented staff who’ve been part of Elegance over the past 17 years, and to my wonderful customers who’ve trusted me with their beauty journey.
‘THANK YOU’
“Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but I appreciate all the memories, laughter, and tears we’ve shared.
“Thank you for being part of my story.”
Locals were left devastated by the closure, with many taking to the comments section of both the posts to share their heartbreak.
One person said: “Miriam, what you built with Elegance over 17 years is truly special — a testament to your heart, vision, and care.
“While this chapter is closing, I know without a doubt that whatever you choose to put your hands and heart to next will be just as beautiful, if not more so.
“Endings are hard, but they often clear space for new beginnings. You’ve touched so many lives — and this is just the beginning of a new path.
“With you all the way.”
‘SO MUCH MORE THAN HAIRSTYLING’
Another fan wrote: “I’m so sorry to have just had my hair done in Elegance for the last time. I’ve loved being a customer there since it opened.
“It was so much more than hairstyling, it was therapy, and laughter, and kindness and fun. I will miss you all so much, Miriam, Lorraine, Caroline, Valerie, Jackie, and not forgetting Bernie who was my therapist and stylist for so long!
“I hope you all know how much we valued you and how much you will all be missed. Very best wishes to you all, I truly hope our paths cross again in future.
Someone else said: “Miriam so sorry to read this post. I know you poured your heart & soul into your business.
“You are so talented in so many ways you won’t be a day idle. Best of luck on whatever you turn to next. Upwards & onwards.”
