Forgotten MAFS groom signs up for second chance at love on new reality show – six years after being slammed as ‘toxic’

A FORGOTTEN MAFS groom signs up for a second chance at love on a new reality show – six years after being slammed as ‘toxic’.

The 50 year old videographer married Heidi Latcham on the Australian version of the show back in 2019 – but they split before the show ended.

Mike Gunner and Heidi’s rocky romance saw the couple argue on numerous occasions and she was often left devastated by his words.

Fans of the show accused him of ‘gaslighting’ her, even during their honeymoon when Heidi gave a heart-breaking insight into her difficult childhood, to which Mike said: ‘I’m not your therapist’.

At the time, fans flocked to social media to comment: “Mike in married at first sight is hot but he needs to reign it in” said one viewer.

“Mike on married at first sight is king of gaslighting, poor Heidi literally asking for bare minimum and he’s not giving her that” said another.

While many more viewers echoed that opinion as they defended Heidi and asked for show producers to step in.

Mike said after the show: ”I have done a lot of interviews and I have received a lot of criticism. I received comments like, I am ‘gaslighting’, I am a ‘narcissist’.

“Other people’s insecurities don’t concern me, if they want to cast labels like that on me then that is a reflection of their own poor judgement, not mine.”

Mike then started a podcast called the Mike Gunner Podcast – Stick To Your Knitting.

At the time, he told The Courier Mail that his goal for the podcast was to “change the world” and fight some world issues.

“Can one man, in one podcast, change the world? Maybe. Maybe not. But I’d like to find out.

“I’m not on a crusade to win back the balance of power to men, but I’d like the scales to be in balance. Equality is what I’m striving for” he said.

However, Mike has now joined the cast of Love Triangle Australia for season three in order to give love another try.

His bio explains that he’s grown a lot since his MAFS days by becoming much more self-aware.

And that the concept of Love Triangle, which involves not seeing someone physically before making an emotional connection, appeals to him.

He also explains: “When given the chance, women discover him to be a kind soul, and while he finds himself a little lonely at times, Mike is a very happy dog dad.

“He’s keen to have a family of his own, even if that means becoming a stepdad.”

While originally an Australian dating show – Love Triangle also has a UK version that is currently on air on E4.

And this season features a controversial Big Brother star and a viral video sensation that are deeply involved in all the drama.

The programme centres around six singletons (the pickers) who text two potential lovers and then have to pick one for a blind date.

Things move fast on the show as they move in together, however they have no idea the other person they were texting moves in later on.

At the end of the series the picker has to choose who they want to be with out of the love triangle.

The show first launched in Australia and was developed by the people behind Married At First Sight, so it has all the right ingredients for success – perhaps Mike will find his match this time around when his season airs!
