Five last-minute tips for celebrating St Patrick’s Day without breaking the bank

IT’S St Patrick’s Day today – and if you’ve maybe left it a little late to organise something, fear not.

We have some cheap and easy ways to get in on the action and embrace Irish culture.

Here are a few ideas . . .

FRUGAL FEAST: Celebrate in style with a hearty Irish dinner sure to delight family and friends.

Lidl has launched limited-edition Deluxe Irish Stout Burgers for £2.99 per pack, with flavours of stout, coffee and chocolate.

For an extra party treat, prepare a budget side dish of colcannon — mashed potatoes combined with cooked cabbage and a knob of butter.

BAKE OFF: Irish soda bread is so easy to make at home.

You will need flour, baking soda and salt, then head to Tesco for two pints of buttermilk, 85p.

Combine the dry ingredients then pour in a quarter of the buttermilk until the mixture forms a dough.

Shape into a ball and place on a baking tray — no kneading required.

Pop it in a pre-heated oven and bake for 30 minutes or at least until you can tap it and it sounds hollow.

RAISE A TOAST: No St Paddy’s Day is complete without a tipple.

Try the new Aldi Ballycastle Stout Irish liqueur, £7.99 and add a drop of whisky to your pour to create an Irish slammer cocktail.

Prefer a pint of Guinness? Get an eight-pack for £9.97, reduced from £12.50, at Asda.

TAKE AN EMERALD BATH: Lie back and dream of the Emerald Isle as Lush has launched its first ever St Patrick’s Day range.

It features green-themed bath bombs and soaps inspired by Ireland.

The Craic bath bomb is £6. Or pick up the Claddagh Soap, also £6.

TOTE OF THE MORNING TO YA: If you’re celebrating at home, Poundland has great party pieces, including balloons from £1.

Or guests can take home treats in “Leprauchauns made me do it” tote bag, £1 each.
