‘FAT’ Freddie Thompson’s chances of reuniting with his son behind bars is “slim to none”, senior sources have revealed.
Brad Dempsey, 24, was last week sentenced to eight years behind bars for a terrifying shooting incident, with the thug locked up at Dublin’s Mountjoy Prison.
And his 44-year-old gangster dad continues to serve a life sentence at Portlaoise Prison for the Kinahan murder of David ‘Daithi’ Douglas on July 1, 2016.
Despite the hefty sentence for Brad — his son with ex Vicky Dempsey — jail staff do not foresee any situation in which father and son reunite in the prison system.
A senior source explained it may be a possibility in situations where there are two level-headed inmates caged in the same prison.
But it is “highly unlikely” that a prison meeting between Brad and Freddie will be facilitated given the security concerns — and the fact they are in separate jails.
A source explained: “There are exceptions where such meetings would be sorted by prison staff.
“There have been instances where a husband and wife were in Mountjoy and the Dochas and they had supervised meetings over the period of their sentences.
“But it’s a different kettle of fish with Freddie and Brad.
“There are grave security concerns surrounding Freddie while dealing with him in Portlaoise, with a number of measures in place there to protect staff.
“And Brad has also caused issues in Mountjoy. The chances of a meeting ever being facilitated is slim to none.”
Freddie previously met enemy Brian Rattigan in Portlaoise to put their bitter rivalry to bed in 2019.
The pair led opposite sides of the Crumlin/Drimnagh feud, which claimed 16 lives by 2015.
It was kicked off by the killing of Freddie’s best friend, Declan Gavin, 21, by Rattigan in 2001.
At the time of their meeting, Freddie claimed he was under too strict a regime at the Co Laois lock-up due to his past beef with Rattigan and wanted to prove it was no longer an issue.
DEATH ALLOWANCE
The Irish Prison Service and Department of Justice also gave Freddie leeway after the passing of his mother Lisa in 2023.
The gangland killer was driven under armed guard to a funeral home in south inner city Dublin to say his last goodbye to her.
But his erratic behaviour behind bars has continued since.
And son Brad — who has been in custody since August 2023 — has been attempting to live off his dad’s name in Mountjoy, where many Kinahan lags are housed.
MOUTHING OFF
Sources say he’s been in countless verbal altercations and “cannot keep his mouth shut”, leaving officers no choice but to move him into a protection landing.
One said: “If he wasn’t moved, something would have kicked off in terms of him being battered or carrying out an attack himself.”
Brad was jailed for eight years on Tuesday after shooting up a car with four people inside it on Margaret Kennedy Road, in Dublin 8 in January 2022.
MUM’S TEARS
His lawyer had handed in a letter from mum Vicky who said she carries a “lot of guilt” over what Brad was exposed to as a child. She fled the court in tears after he was caged.
Brad’s presence in Dublin’s south inner city had been a major headache for Gardai.
He was suspected of carrying out a number of violent attacks and had also been drug dealing.
