A Thai durian vendor in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok filed a police complaint against a man who tricked her into sharing explicit images and later blackmailed her for 50,000 baht.
The 36 year old victim, accompanied by her lawyer, visited Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station on Wednesday, July 2, to lodge the complaint. She also shared the details of her ordeal with the media to raise awareness and warn other women.
The woman explained that the suspect, who went by the name James, first contacted her via Facebook on June 29. He quickly steered the conversation towards a sexual nature, sending her an unsolicited photo of his genitals and encouraging her to send a picture of her breasts in return, offering 500 baht as payment.
Although she agreed, she did not send her own photo. Instead, she searched online for a random image of another woman and sent that. However, James realised the deception and continued pressuring her until she ultimately complied and sent a real photo. Despite this, he failed to send the promised 500 baht.
The woman admitted that she continued chatting with James, during which he requested more explicit images, this time offering 5,000 baht in return for pictures of her private parts. She refused and declined further involvement.
However, the situation escalated. James later claimed that his wife discovered their messages and threatened to distribute the woman’s explicit photos to her children, friends, and others if she did not pay 50,000 baht.
In addition, James’s wife allegedly threatened to sue the victim for adultery and violating the Computer Crime Act. She offered to settle the matter peacefully if the victim paid the requested amount.
The woman said she could not afford the sum and decided to seek legal help. Her lawyer, Natatchapong Boonkird, advised her to pursue legal action against James, identifying him as a scammer.
She also submitted the scammer’s bank account details to the police, who are now using the information to track down the suspect.
