Call of Duty has forever ruled the first-person shooter genre in the gaming industry. With its intense gameplay and more passionate storyline, the series published by Activision has always ruled the hearts of gamers and action fans alike.

Although the whole franchise features different memorable campaigns, one game sticks out as the best CoD game in years. Of course, we are talking about Call of Duty: Ghosts. Let’s delve deeper into why the game is as underrated as it is and why it did not get a sequel.
Call of Duty: Ghosts not having a sequel is criminal

The Call of Duty games revolve solely around military operations and war soldiers, and the whole franchise started out in 2003 with its first game, Call of Duty, which was about the world war. Through the years, CoD games have evolved into more modern settings, have implemented better weapons, and have featured more gameplay elements in their later installments.
Call of Duty: Ghosts was the tenth major installment in the CoD franchise, which was developed by Infinity Ward. The game was released back in November of 2013 and acted as a standalone installment in the franchise that inherited most of the core gameplay from its predecessors.
In a 2013 interview between Xbox and the executive producer of Infinity Ward, Mark Rubin, he revealed that everyone was expecting the next sequel of their previous game, Modern Warfare 3, but according to him, Ghosts was the perfect opportunity for them to start a new chapter on their franchise.
Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels, we saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.
The console transition was the transition from the seventh to the eighth generation of video game consoles, which included consoles like the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Activision blames the failure of Ghosts on console generation change

Although Call of Duty: Ghosts featured really good gameplay and plot, it did not receive the reception it was hoping for. The title is still one of the best games in the whole franchise, but people hate on it because of its lack of identity and new elements in the series. Activision also talked about how the console generation transition also played a part in the game being a failure.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is certainly not the best game in the series, and it definitely did not blow people away, but it’s still one of those games that have occupied a special place in our hearts. Whether there will be a sequel or not is still a mystery, one thing we are sure of is that we will forever be eager for the next Call of Duty: Ghosts.
