Elderly woman, 70s, pronounced dead at scene of horror crash between car and truck in Meath as urgent appeal made

AN ELDERLY woman has died after a horror crash between a car and a truck in Co Meath.

The fatal collision occurred at Platin Terrace shortly after 10:30am this morning.

Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene near Drogheda in Co Meath after the alarm was raised.

The driver of the car, a female in her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

No other injuries were reported.

Gardai remain at the scene with the road closed to facilitate a technical examination.

Local diversions are in place.

Investigators have issued an appeal for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision near Drogheda in Co. Meath.

“The collision involving a car and a truck occurred at Platin Terrace shortly after 10:30am this morning, Thursday 3rd July 2025.

“The driver of the car, a female in her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

APPEAL MADE

“No other injuries were reported.

“The road is closed to facilitate a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10:00am and 11:00am this morning Thursday 3rd July 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashbourne Garda Station at 01 801 0600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

DONEGAL DEATH

This latest road death comes less than 24 hours after a young girl was killed in a horror crash in Co Donegal last night.

Another child and two adults were rushed to hospital in a serious condition following the collision between a car and van on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, Carndonagh road at 6.30pm yesterday.

The young female child, who was a passenger in the car, was fatally injured.

The female driver of the car, a male front seat passenger and another female child were all rushed to to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

The three passengers are fighting for their lives in serious condition.
