ADAM FOLEY has confirmed his departure from Drogheda United as the club turns full-time.
Foley, 35, scored 10 times in all competitions in 2024, including a brace against Waterford in the FAI Cup semi-final.
He appeared as a substitute in their final victory over Derry City and in their play-off win over Bray Wanderers the following weekend to maintain their top-flight status.
His exit was anticipated and became inevitable once the club decided to switch to morning training sessions.
Foley said: “Unfortunately due to the change in schedule and work commitments I’m unable to continue playing in the Premier Division.
“I am gutted it has to end but it is the right time for the club to go into full time football especially after the success of last season and European football on the way.
“It has been the best years of my life being a Drogheda United player and I can now go watch and support the lads on Fridays.
“To do what we have done over the last three seasons as a part-time team is special, but to finish it all off with winning the FAI Cup in the Aviva & securing European football is not a bad way to bow out.”
Manager Kevin Doherty added: “I’d like to thank Foles for everything he has done for the club over the last three years. From day one when I met him, I knew he was the right signing for us.
“He has made a massive impact on and off the pitch at Drogheda United. He’s a fantastic player, but more importantly, he’s also a fantastic person, and was integral to our success over the last three seasons.”
Having alternated between the Leinster Senior League and the Irish League – where he lined out for Portadown and Glenavon – Foley only made his League of Ireland debut aged 30, for Finn Harps, before moving to Drogheda 18 months later.
