Disney has released the first footage of Tron: Ares, and it does not disappoint, with its neo-aesthetics and chaotic virtual reality cutting deep into the human world. The original Tron franchise debuted in 1982. Getting stars like Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto as some of the lead characters, the film has set in motion an intriguing sci-fi thriller to come.

The footage from the D23 Expo gave a glimpse of what fans can expect from this storyline. As aforementioned, Jared Leto will play the part of Ares. Greta Lee dwells in the character of a “brilliant programmer” named Eve Kim. Evan Peters will be seen as Julian Dillinger, whose last name suggests his connection with the 1982 Tron villain.

A brief synopsis was revealed during the Expo, hinting at a full collision of humans and AI—the world at its best.

The footage started with Dillinger’s character going on and on about the virtual world. His character remarked:

So much talk of AI and big tech, virtual worlds, when are we gonna get there. Well folks, we’re not going. They are coming here.

The scene shifts to Ares, who has come to the real world to find “something.” His voiceover suggested that he was searching for something ambiguous, not clearly understanding his purpose. (via. Variety)

The Oscar-winning industrial rock legends are bringing their unique flair to the Tron universe.

Led by the enigmatic Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for hauntingly beautiful soundscapes and powerful compositions, this collaboration promises to inject a fresh burst of energy into the franchise. With their signature sound paired with the high-stakes digital world of Tron: Ares, it’s bound to be an unforgettable auditory experience. The film will be directed by  Joachim Rønning and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Not much has been revealed about the plot twists and underlying tone, but Tron: Ares appears to be the sci-fi cinema to look forward to.

Tron: Ares is set to release on the silver screens on October 10, 2025.
