We should have known Kate Middleton would sneak some special meaning into her St. Patrick’s Day look. When it comes to royal fashion, most outfits are filled with touching tributes to other family members and historical significance.
And so is it really any wonder that eagle-eyed fans noticed the sweet way the Princess of Wales honored her 9-year-old daughter during her latest royal outing? While attending the Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Wellington Barracks, Middleton wore a pair of Kiki McDonough oval drop earrings with green tourmaline and green amethyst, per InStyle.
The stunning jewelry (pictured below) was a custom gift given to the mom of three “following Princess Charlotte’s birth.” According to People, they cost nearly $5 thousand and it’s unclear which loved one gifted them to the then postpartum mom. (Talk about an epic push gift!)
Sure, the festive green was perfect for the Irish holiday, but we think it’s safe to say Middleton was thinking about more than just St. Patrick when she put the earrings in. She must have had her mini-me — who she shares with her husband Prince William along with kids Prince George, 11 and Prince Louis, 6 — on her mind too.
While at the parade, Middleton teased some major news. It sounds like Prince Louis could reach a royal milestone this year and finally travel abroad.
“I would like to go back [to Australia and New Zealand] with [my kids] now,” she said. “It’s finding time to do that. But I love to travel.”
That would be huge if the 6-year-old went on a royal tour. It’s something his siblings, his cousin Prince Archie, his dad, and his Uncle Prince Harry all did as babies, so doing so at 6 (or 7) years old is quite groundbreaking — even for the adorably cheeky, tradition-breaking royal.
Now we have to wonder how Middleton will honor her kids through her fashion choices should they have the “brilliant experience” of traveling together in 2025. Perhaps she and Princess Charlotte will have some more colorful coordinated looks and she can accessorize with jewelry or other pieces that she was given near her sons’ births. A girl can dream!
