Dick Wolf just flipped the script on his FBI franchise, and fans didn’t see this one coming. While FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International are getting the axe, Wolf’s shaking things up with FBI: CIA – a high-stakes spin-off that ditches the usual field ops for a world of espionage, double agents, and deep-cover missions.

With two shows out and one fresh take in, the FBI universe is heading into uncharted territory. Now, let’s see if this gamble pays off.
Dick Wolf shakes up the FBI franchise with a CIA twist

The FBI universe is getting a shake-up – two shows are out, and a fresh spin-off is in the works. While FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International wrap up this May, Dick Wolf is doubling down with FBI: CIA, or whatever it ends up being called.
The new series, set to explore the intersection of FBI and CIA operations, was originally planned as a backdoor pilot within FBI but is now aiming for a straight-to-series order for the 2025-26 season, via Deadline.
Behind the scenes, things have been shifting. The initial plan was to introduce three key characters, including an FBI and CIA agent, through FBI‘s seventh season. That idea got pushed back multiple times before ultimately being scrapped. Now, casting for the male lead continues, with the show’s fate hinging on the right star landing the role.
Written by Wolf, FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman, and former CIA officer David Chasteen, the show follows a no-nonsense FBI agent and a street-smart CIA operative working together in a high-stakes, off-the-books task force tackling domestic terrorism.
CBS and Wolf Entertainment have kept quiet on official details, but if Wolf’s behind it, expect the action, tension, and procedural drama to keep coming.
Dick Wolf goes gritty: On Call brought a bold new edge to his TV empire

Dick Wolf’s dominated prime-time TV for decades, but now he’s shaking it up — streaming style. On Call, his first straight-to-streaming drama, wastes no time setting the tone (per IndieWire). In just three minutes, there’s an F-bomb, a dashcam, and a point-blank killing. For a guy known for playing it safe on network TV, it’s practically Dylan going electric.
Originally set for Freevee before landing on Prime Video, On Call is unlike Wolf’s usual procedural shows. Each episode wraps in a binge-friendly 30 minutes, and the gritty, POV-heavy style feels more End of Watch than Law & Order. Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente lead the charge as cops steering through the chaos of Long Beach, with Eriq LaSalle directing (and playing their boss).
Wolf’s TV reign isn’t over, but in the streaming world, the jury’s still out.
