Chis Pine: I Couldn’t Take Any Star Trek Props Like Zachary Quinto Because of Signing “So many NDAs”, Thought “Paramount Police” Will Arrest Me

When it comes to big-budget projects across Hollywood, fans often tend to sneak out props and memorabilia that are personal to them, which makes for some brilliant trivia for fans, along with allowing actors to have keepsakes of their time on set. However, Chris Pine was apparently too scared to do such a thing on the set of Star Trek, afraid that Paramount would come after him.

Chris Pine essayed the role of James T. Kirk in the trilogy that lasted from 2009-2015, and given the amount of time that he had spent on the set for the first two films, it made sense that the interviewer over at StarTrek.com asked him about what he might have taken (or stolen) from the set.

Chris Pine revealed that while his fellow cast mates were able to sneak stuff off of the set, and even ask for things to take home, Pine was never as bold as to try and sneak something away during his time on any of the two Star Trek sets. He revealed that was largely due to the NDAs he signed, telling StarTrek.com:

I was too scared to steal anything because the security around the set was so tight and I’d signed so many NDA’s that I was worried that Brad Grey was going to show up to my house with a crew of Paramount police and arrest me. So I don’t have anything.

While Chris Pine didn’t necessarily take something off of the sets during the first two films, his performance definitely got Paramount more involved with the project, promptly greenlighting a third film with Pine as Kirk. The actor was very keen to see how Kirk keeps growing, allowing him to play the character with a lot of nuance.

Chris Pine recently revealed that he wants to return as an older James Kirk in a fourth Star Trek film. The idea is that the film would exclusively cater to hardcore Star Trek fans, with a focus on making it a low-budget film. Pine talked about how franchise films usually end up costing a bomb, and have to make up all that money just so everyone can get paid. He said (via Popverse):

I think we [should] just make a much smaller film that’s more story-driven, more character-based, there’s less sh*t exploding, and maybe do it that way. Also, shoot it on film, not digital. And then you have the fanbase. The fanbase has always been very kind to me. Obviously, there’s the trolls that lurk on the internet that hate everything, but generally, I think people really liked [our Star Trek movies].

The idea is to have more character-driven stories that focus on building a narrative, such that the film, to begin with, will be able to make back its money, and then be able to cater to what fans want, rather than building a narrative focus on spectacle and explosions.
