The German Foreign Ministry said on X Beijing’s military had “endangered personnel” participating in an EU-led mission.

It wrote: “Endangering German personnel [and] disrupting the operation is entirely unacceptable.”

A spokesperson for Germany’s Defence Ministry said the plane was targeted “without reason or prior contact […] during a routine operation”.

It was operating as part the EU’s Aspides mission to protect boats passing through the sea.

The plane was forced to abandon its mission following the senseless disruption and return to its base in Djibouti.
