Corrie’s Jodie Prenger reveals Glenda Shuttleworth is set to go to ‘war’ with new cobbles family in fiery new scenes

CORONATION Street star Jodie Prenger has revealed that her character, Glenda Shuttleworth, is set to go to ‘war’ with a brand-new family on the cobbles.

Actress Jodie, 45, teased upcoming drama, saying the new arrivals won’t be making many friends on the Street – and Glenda has already taken issue with them.

Mick and Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty and Joe Layton), described as “livewires” and “ruffians” who will cause chaos and trouble, arrive in town this month.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Jodie said: “We’ve filmed quite a few bits with them and all I’m going to say is they’re great.

“They’re a really good mix and they rile up a lot of people in the soap. There will be quite a few people they don’t get on with.”

When asked if her character Glenda will see eye-to-eye with the new family, Jodie said: “Well… I think Glenda likes to trust her gut a lot of the time and we’ll see. But Glenda doesn’t know if they’re a [bad egg] just yet. She bore a grudge.”

Speaking about her character after her heartbreak, she added: “There are bits coming up but I can’t say, I just want to shake her.

“I love that things go wrong for her because I relate to it in my own life. I love playing Glenda.

“I think the great thing about Glenda and the flip side that Corrie’s always done is tell a the good side to a dark story and I think Glenda has a lot of backstory that she’s never let out and when she does let her wall down she;s quite endearing.”

Discussing the number of co-stars being suddenly axed, including Corrie legend Helen Worth’s exit, Jodie said: “When you form friendships with someone that’s the sad part and when you realise that the kind of characters you’ve grown up knowing.

“I’m not going to lie, I really did get upset when Helen Worth left because she’s an icon to women across all soaps.”

Last summer, Jodie addressed the future of an iconic family in the show

It came weeks after soap legend Helen Worth announced she would be leaving her role as Gail Platt after an incredible 50 years.

Speaking at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards, Jodie was asked about her tenured colleague’s imminent exit.

The actress and singer said she was “really, really gutted” upon hearing the news.

Revealing she and Helen had shared a table in the green room, Jodie added: “She’s lovely and grounded and everything you want a Corrie legend to be.

“It’s a massive, massive loss but she’s one of these iconic women that have paved the way for other women to come and surround her.

“She’ll be a great loss, but I hope we can carry the torch for her.”

Meanwhile, Jodie also addressed speculation that fellow Corrie star Sue Nicholls could follow Helen out of the soap.

Sue, 80, began playing Gail’s mother Audrey Roberts in 1979 and has therefore worked with Helen for almost five decades.

When asked about the theory, Jodie replied: “I think she’ll stay.

“I’d love everyone to have an experience – I know you can buy the Corrie Street tour, but I wish you could buy the Corrie Street green room.

“Just have a cup of tea with them, they’re lovely. Dead normal, dead grounded, no airs, no graces.

Coronation Street's 2024 shock exits

Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.

Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.

Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.

Show stalwart Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.

Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

“It’s one of those places where you… I don’t know, I expected some divas, but it’s not.

“It’s just a lovely place to be.”

Earlier this month, Helen addressed her exit from the flagship ITV soap in a statement.

She said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.

“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.

“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

Billionaire brothers who ‘invented Facebook’ become co-owners of non-league minnows in huge £3.5m

THE billionaire twins who claimed they “invented Facebook” have officially become co-owners of an English non-league side.

American tech moguls Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have finalised a £3.5million investment in eighth tier outfit Real Bedford.

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have finalised a £3.5m investment in eighth tier side Real Bedford

The Winklevoss’ may be best known from the Oscar winning film ‘The Social Network’, where their early role in Facebook was portrayed by Armie Hammer.

The brothers, who unsuccessfully sued Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, have since gone on to found cryptocurrency exchange Gemini and have a net worth of £2.14billion.

Their deal in Real Bedford sees them take a 45 per cent stake in the club to become co-owners.

A deal in principle for their investment was reached and announced in April 2024 after Gemini started its sponsorship in January 2022.

But final documents were only signed on Wednesday after full terms were agreed.

The investment is in cash, not bitcoin, contrary to reports last year, according to Sky Sports.

The identical twins will work alongside chairman and owner Peter McCormack, who is a cryptocurrency podcaster.

The investment will be used for the development of a training centre, the launch of a talent academy and to continue supporting youth football.

McCormack bought Real Bedford – then in the 10th tier and called Bedford FC – in January 2022.

He told the BBC: “The fact the Winklevoss twins are now co-owners is massive.

“They want to be involved in the running of the club and I will do the day-to-day business but we will be speaking regularly.

“This investment is huge for the town of Bedford. The money will be used to help the club pursue its league ambitions.”

Rob Hepburn, a corporate lawyer who advised the Winklevoss’ on their investment, told Sky Sports: “It’s a really exciting time for the lower leagues of football in England.

“We’ve seen the success that Salford City and Wrexham have had with big injections of cash and Real Bedford look set to continue the trend.

“The deal illustrates again the appeal of English football to investors, particularly where there is a media angle to it.”

Away from business, the Winklevoss’ are also known for having competed for the USA in the men’s pair rowing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In 2011, the brothers’ claim that Zuckerberg stole their idea while classmates at Harvard University was dismissed in court as a judge ordered them to accept a cash and stock settlement in the platform.

Real Bedford attracts an average of only 300 spectators per game, and the pair hope their investment can help it climb from the eighth tier to the Premier League.

Although that seems like an unrealistic goal, the club are top of the Southern League Division One Central after back-to-back promotions.

The team is in discussions to merge with Bedford Town, which is in the seventh tier.

Rangers penalty ‘push’ verdict revealed by KMI panel after Sky Sports pundits pull together and back John Beaton

CHRIS SUTTON dismissed Hearts’ penalty claims. James McFadden said it wasn’t a spot-kick and Sky Sports didn’t even ASK Kris Boyd.

But the Scottish FA‘s Key Match Incidents panel HAS ruled on last Sunday’s clash between Jambo James Wilson and Rangers defender Clinton Nsiala.

It wasn’t awarded and Rangers scored 40 seconds later[/caption]
Three men sitting in front of a stadium backdrop on a Sky Sports set.
Sky Sports pundits were quizzed on the incident – and backed ref John Beaton

And the independent assessors say the officials at Tynecastle got it WRONG.

The home crowd yelled for a penalty when their young forward tumbled as both he and the Gers defender marking him raced to meet a clipped cross into the box.

Nsiala definitely made contact – of that there was no doubt.

But not enough for John Beaton to take action.

And none it seemed for VAR officials Steven McLean and Graeme Leslie to intervene.

They could have sent the ref to the screen for a second look.

Instead play continued and Rangers countered quickly and SCORED within 40 seconds of the perceived injustice.

Vaclav Cerny‘s goal could have been called back but got the green-light – much to the home side’s anger.

Pundits were unanimous afterwards and didn’t believe there was enough to merit a spot-kick.

They backed the referees’ team.

But the SFA KMI panel say they all got it wrong and Hearts deserved a penalty – although they were split.

Their assessment read: “The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (3:2) deeming the onfield decision incorrect.

“The majority (3:2) believed that VAR should have intervened and recommended an OFR for a possible penalty kick.”

The group is formed of three independent panel members with established careers within Scottish football – such as coaches, former players and members of the Scottish football media – plus a rep from the league and from the SFA.

But pundits post-match all agreed it wasn’t enough for a penalty.

Speaking on Sky Sports Chris Sutton said: “There has to be sufficient contact for Wilson to hit the deck and I think he tries to buy that one. That’s not a penalty if that’s what you’re asking.”

James McFadden added: “Not for me, no.”

Host Eilidh Barbour didn’t even bother asking ex-Gers hero Kris Boyd.

Who owns Rangers?

As the San Francisco 49ers pursue potential investment in Rangers, SunSport looks at who own the biggest blocks of shares at Ibrox

Dave King 12.96%

Borita Investments & Perron Investment (owned by directors Julian Wolhardt and John Halsted) 12.69%

Douglas Park 11.54%

George Taylor 10.22%

Stuart Gibson 9.53%

John Bennett 7.11%

But Wilson pleaded his innocence and denied playing for the penalty.

He said: “No, I haven’t. I haven’t tried that.

“I’ve legit been knocked off my balance. It’s annoying, but that’s football You’re going to get decisions to go against you and you have to try and bounce back.”

He added: “I feel the shove on my back. It’s put me off balance and got me going to ground.

“I definitely feel the shove on my back. I can’t tell you how much it looks like a penalty, but it felt like a penalty.”

Trump ‘will join Putin in Moscow at massive WW2 military parade’ as Vlad plans to ‘celebrate victory’ over Ukraine

PRESIDENT Donald Trump is to join pal Vladimir Putin in Moscow for World War II commemorations.

It comes after the Republican slammed Ukrainian President Zelensky’s approval ratings, called for fresh Ukraine elections and appeared to suggest that Ukraine started the war with Russia following the historic peace talks in Saudi Arabia.

The Republican will fly to Russia for Victory Day celebrations on May 9, according to French news magazine Le Point, citing Russian sources.

Putin praised his Republican pal for “changing his position” when he “began to receive objective information” on Wednesday – a mere few hours after Zelensky slammed Trump for living in a “Russian disinformation bubble”.

The tyrant said he welcomed Tuesday’s talks between Russian and US officials in Saudi Arabia, dubbing them the “first step” to restore relations with Washington.

Speaking from a drone factory in Saint Petersburg, smug Vlad said: “I was briefed [on the talks]. I rate them highly, there is a result.

“In my opinion, we made the first step to restore work in various areas of mutual interests.”

He added that ensuring there’s a resolution to the conflict is a top priority for Russia, but explained that his country has to build trust with the US to achieve this.

In Kyiv, Deputy Minister of Defence Serhii Boiev hit back at Donald Trump’s claim that European troops in Kyiv will spark World War Three.

He warned that without the presence of British or European allies, Putin will pretend to agree to a ceasefire while secretly “firing on all cylinders in recruiting and training”.

The silver-haired top minister added that without a fresh pledge of military support from Trump, in three months time the army will experience a critical dip in weapons supplies.

In a secret briefing room, Mr Boiev told The Sun that Sir Keir Starmer was completely right to pledge “British boots on the ground” in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister made a rallying cry to Europe urging leaders to “step up” and deploy peacekeeping troops to Ukraine.

The PM vowed the UK will “do our bit” to try and enforce a peace deal.

Mr Boiev said: “If Ukraine doesn’t go to Nato then Nato needs to go to Ukraine.

“We want European forces to be here to ensure a sustainable peace.

“The security guarantees that come out of this war are essential including the contingency of allies on the ground.”

Labour MPs David Taylor and Phill Brickell, who met with Mr Boiev in Kyiv, said: “If the US falter, the UK must be willing to step up. The front line here in Ukraine is the front line for Brits. The evil tyrant Putin will not stop.

“Keir Starmer must set a rapid path to at least 2.5% on defence. We must look to support a new, protected supply chain of easy to make and easy to use warfare drones.

“And, we must designate all members of the United Russia Party as terrorists, using any sanctioned money for the war effort.”

The dictator also shared that Trump was starting to receive “objective information”, without elaborating.

He added: “We will be ready to return to the negotiating table”.

Zelensky accused Moscow of misleading Trump in a press conference earlier – which the US President has since responded to in a tirade on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The Ukrainian president said this afternoon: “Unfortunately, President Trump, who we have great respect for as leader of the American people … lives in this disinformation space.”

Speaking right after the US and Russian foreign ministers held talks in Saudi Arabia, Zelensky continued: “We want security guarantees this year because we want to end the war this year.”

Another showbiz legend Paul Daniels also pops up in the remastered version of the 90s video game classic.

But they were stunned to see husband and wife duo Ian and Janette Tough pop up in the remastered version of the 90s classic, starring the shapely archaeologist, which was released earlier this month.

And the showbiz legends reckon they may be Lara’s rarest find yet.

Janette, 77, who played cheeky schoolboy Wee Jimmy Krankie, joked: “She did well to dig us up – we’ve been retired for years now.”

The comedy duo’s framed promo picture from their ITV 80’s kids’ show KTV bizarrely appears in a scene alongside their late magician pal Paul Daniels, when Lara meets the editor of The Times in his office before she digs through the newspaper archives.

It is part of a new “bonus level” and gamers are loving it, with one reviewer describing it as “a rewarding diversion” and “worth playing just to see the British legends”.

While another fan has already made a YouTube tribute video highlighting the pair’s appearance in the re-release.

Lara Croft was a sensation when it was launched in 1996 with the character portrayed by Angelina Jolie in the Hollywood film version Tomb Raider in 2001.

Another adventure flick, starring Swedish actress Alicia Vikander as Croft, was released in 2018.

But it’s not the first time The Krankies have appeared in a major video game franchise.

In 2022 we revealed how East Kilbride-born voiceover artist Elle Newlands used their catchphrase “Fan-Dabi-Dozi” while playing the online character Horizon in the mega-hit game Apex Legends.

Ian, 77, says: “If they make another movie Janette could play Lara’s wee brother – Jimmy Croftamie.”

Janette added: “And if Ian’s in it, instead of Tomb Raider they could call it Fridge Raider.”
