DONALD Trump has demanded “anything we can get” from Ukraine in a marquee speech to his adoring fans.
The Republican also pledged to find out whether tonnes of gold bars are still inside Fort Knox with his pal Elon Musk.

Trump walked towards the podium to repeated chants of ‘USA’AFPAFPZelensky is reportedly not ready to sign the ‘problematic’ minerals deal with the US[/caption]
Trump made the remarks demanding oil and rare earth minerals at a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday as his row with President Volodymyr Zelensky rumbles on.
He said: “I’m dealing with President Zelensky. I’m dealing with President Putin and I’m trying to get the money back or secured.”
The President said that the US has given $350 billion in aid to the war-torn nation while Europe has given $100 billion.
He said: “Europe gave it in the form of a loan, they get their money back.
“We gave it in the form of nothing so I want them to give us something for all of the money that we put up.
“We’re asking for rare earth, oil, anything we can get.”
The president then slammed his predecessor Joe Biden for failing to “get equalisation” with Europe regarding aid as he said the war “does not affect us” like it does the continent.
“How come we went so far out front and he didn’t know that Europe gets its money back? It’s not fair.”
The deal proposed by Trump’s team would seeKyivhand over billions of dollars of minerals toWashingtonDC in exchange for weapons.
The Ukrainian source said: “The agreement is not yet ready to be signed, there are a number of problematic issues, and in the current form of the draft, the president is not ready to accept it.
“Today, the drafts do not reflect a partnership in the agreement and contain only unilateral commitments by Ukraine.”
As the split between the US and Ukraine continues to widen after Trump branded Zelensky a “dictator”, Kyiv has held “productive” talks with US envoy General Keith Kellogg about the deal.
Kellogg has been seen as the mediator between Zelensky and the furious stance of the Trump White House.
During his CPAC speech, the President also said he and pal Elon Musk are planning a trip to Fort Knox in Kentucky to check on the country’s gold.
He said: “Under our administration there will be no tolerance for social security fraud…We’re also going to Fort Knox.
“I’m going to go with Elon,” he said as he called out the “corrupt people in the country.
“We want to see if the gold is still there,” he said as he joked about the reactions of onlookers if they opened it and found nothing there.
Trump praised Musk’s work with the Department of Government Efficiency that he said is “waging a war on government waste, fraud, and abuse.”
“Elon is doing a great job. We love Elon don’t we?
“He’s a patriot – people said ‘What official position does he have?’ I said ‘Patriot.’”

FORMER Premier League whistler Mark Halsey has branded VAR “embarrassing” following Everton’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
AFPEverton were given a penalty late on against Man Utd – only for the decision to be overturned[/caption]
RexReferee Andy Madley was shown incorrect footage on the pitchside monitor[/caption]
AFPEx-referee Mark Halsey has slammed VAR for the mistake[/caption]
VAR Matt Donohue recommended Madley review his decision – before the WRONG footage was shown on the pitchside monitor.
Former Prem ref Halsey told SunSport: “The decision to overturn a penalty awarded to Everton near the end of their 2-2 draw with Manchester United was clearly wrong.
“VAR Matt Donohue should NOT have got involved because referee Andy Madley’s on-field call was in no way a clear and obvious error.
“Ashley Young’s shirt was pulled – and when an opponent does that in the penalty area he is asking for trouble.
“When Madley went to the monitor on the advice of VAR he was then shown the wrong footage.
“The Premier League Match Centre posted on social media that Harry Maguire’s challenge on Young had been checked and that no foul had been committed.
“But they failed to take into account that Matthijs de Ligt had pulled Young back by the shirt.

“And had Madley been shown footage filmed from behind the goal he would have seen this.
“The incident was embarrassing.”
Everton led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals by Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
But United fought back after the break and levelled through Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.
Relieved Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim claimed the decision not to award a penalty was fair.
Amorim said: “No, I think it’s a soft touch, it was not [a penalty] from what I saw.
“I think it was a soft penalty, that was clear.
“If you start the game without the first half, it was a good point, but we needed the three points.”
The VAR footage centered on Harry Maguire impeding Ashley Young, rather than focusing on Mattjis De Ligt’s shirt pull
But fuming Everton manager David Moyes hit out at the officials after his side were denied back-to-back Premier League wins.
Moyes fumed: “I can’t understand. [De Ligt] pulled his jersey.
“I just thought the referee made the correct decision at the time and he should stick with it.
“I think everybody who watches football, we’re all looking forward to seeing a referee saying ‘No, no I’m sticking with it’.
‘If it’s absolutely clear and obvious that’s what we’ve got VAR for, but I didn’t think it needed to get involved.

AlamyReform MP Rupert Lowe said: ‘If you come here and commit serious crimes, you should be on the next plane home in cuffs’[/caption]
He lied about having no family in Africa while his complex love life involved having two children in an on-off relationship with an Albanian migrant.
Yet he was allowed to stay in 2011 by invoking his right to family life under European conventions, with judges giving him a chance to turn his life around.
But within three years he was jailed over his sexual affair with the teenager and served more time for wounding, carrying an imitation gun and having a knife.
Immigration judges have now finally agreed to return him to his native Zimbabwe, saying: “His right to respect for his family is extremely heavily outweighed in this case by the need to protect the public from his likely very serious continued criminality.”
His life of crime began shortly after he arrived in Yorkshire as a dependant of his mother’s in 2006.
The charge sheet included burglary, stealing a car, affray and carrying a knife.
While in jail he was told he would be deported — but had become a father and the threat was lifted.
His later sex and other crimes meant he was jailed for 8½ of his 18 years in the UK.
Reform MP Rupert Lowe said: “If you come here and commit serious crimes, you should be on the next plane home in cuffs.”
The Home Office said: “We remain resolute in our commitment to ensuring there are no barriers to deporting criminals.”

3 hours agoworld NewsComments Off on I was burgled & cops couldn’t do a thing but Labour say we’re TOO tough on crime. Here are my ideas on how to fix things
IT WAS a scene that shamed Britain.
Armed kidnapper Daniel Dowling-Brooks sauntered out of prison straight towards a £150,000 Bentley when he stopped, grinned and declared: “Big up Keir Starmer.”
PAArmed kidnapper Daniel Dowling-Brooks, one of 1,200 criminals let out of prison early, went straight towards a £150,000 Bentley before declaring: ‘Big Up Keir Starmer’[/caption]
ReutersLabour cannot afford not to be tough on crime, if Sir Keir Starmer is to turn around his dwindling approval ratings[/caption]
How did the country get into this mess? And who is to blame?
Apparently it is because ministers have been too tough on crime.
You heard that right folks — too TOUGH on crime.
You might be too scared to pop down to the High Street because gangs on bikes are out snatching phones.
But according to the Government’s prison sentencing adviser, David Gauke, ministers are guilty of being too hard on offenders.
This has led to longer prison sentences, over-crowded jails and the early release of prisoners like Dowling-Brooks, he says.
The implication of his sneering report is clear. When the public calls for yobs who rob grannies to be locked up for longer, they are wrong and should be ignored.
What total rubbish.
Our politicians are not too tough on crime. Quite the opposite.
Most of my family and friends feel less safe today than a few years ago.
Take the shoplifting epidemic — it is out of control. Gangs clear entire shelves into their bags before calmly walking out, not even breaking a sweat.
Shatterproof screens are being installed around supermarket tills, staff are being given body cameras and even butter is security tagged.
A little while ago, I was burgled.
The thief was only there a few minutes. But in that time, he managed to plunder all my jewellery and the lifetime of memories it held for me.
My favourite ring, given to me by a boyfriend, the necklace my dad gave me for my 21st and the earrings that were a Christmas present from my mum. All gone.
When the police came round, they were brutally honest.
Our prison and justice system is broken. So what is the Labour government going to do about it?
It was probably the work of one of the professional burglars in my corner of London. The cops know who they are, but there is zero chance of the culprit being brought to justice because they leave no prints.
In other words, thanks for the call but there is nothing we can do. There are millions of people like me.
Like my burglary, most crimes are committed by repeat offenders.
Yet people with up to 300 offences are avoiding prison sentences at court, according to the Crush Crime research group. Our prison and justice system is broken.
So what is the Labour government going to do about it?
Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood is off to Texas tomorrow to look at how prisons work over there.
She will study a scheme which lets inmates cut their jail time by earning “good behaviour credits” for taking part in education or drug rehab.
Drug-addled convicts
Points equal prizes. The more you show you are turning your life around, the more points you earn and the more time you knock off your sentence.
Texas has slashed its prison population by 15 per cent since it was introduced in 2007.
If we can learn something from the Texans, then we should.
Too many of our jails are warehouses for drug-addled convicts waiting for their next fix to arrive by drone.
But a few merits for good homework is not going to be enough.
So what should be done? I have a few ideas.
First, we need to build more prisons. The first duty of the Government is to look after its citizens.
This means locking people up when they pose a threat.
Second, prisoners should receive proper training on the inside so they can get a job on the outside.
Third, if criminals are given community punishments instead of prison, these must still be tough and visible.
If yobs deface war memorials or smash shop windows, they should have to clear the mess up.
Fourth, repeat offenders must be locked up. People deserve second chances — not 300.
Fifth, policing needs to be more visible. If shoplifters are targeting High Streets at lunchtime, then we should see bobbies on the beat at that time.
Sir Keir Starmer was swept to a landslide victory at the election, but just eight months on, his approval ratings are in free-fall.
Labour cannot afford not to be tough on crime.
HATS OFF TO ENDERS’ WRITERS
EASTENDERS celebrated its 40th anniversary this week – and what a week it was.
The Queen Vic exploded, trapping nearly everyone from the Square inside; the ghost of Angie appeared to help Sharon escape the rubble; and evil Reiss finally got his come-uppance when a bathtub fell on his head.
BBCThe ghost of Angie appeared to help Sharon escape the rubble as EastEnders celebrated its 40th anniversary[/caption]
Hats off to the writers for that one.
I grew up with EastEnders. Too young to have watched the early days of Den and Angie, my golden era was the mid-1990s.
I’ve seen Michael Gambon perform live on stage and spent many weekends watching old Hitchcock films.
But for me, nothing will beat the high drama of Sharon’s scandalous affair with her brother-in-law Phil being exposed.
The incriminating confession tape played out at Phil’s engagement party to Kathy. The white-hot fury of Grant – a man betrayed by his brother and wife Sharon – who seeks vengeance with a murder bid.
And a community so shocked by the revelation, they flee back to their homes to escape the violence.
EastEnders is the Greek tragedy of our day.
My family loves it. Our Christmas Eve schedule is built around it.
Our family WhatsApp chat pings with our takes on the latest drama.
I thought the 40th anniversary storyline was a triumph. It even got Brits dashing home after work to watch telly live again.
One of my colleagues went to a watch party.
Here’s to the next 40 years on Albert Square.
MAURA A RAYA LIGHT
I SEE reality TV’s Maura Higgins has been spotted on celebrity dating app Raya after splitting with Towie badboy Pete Wicks.
Now I must confess, I love both these stars.
Maura is hands down the best Love Island contestant there has ever been – an acid-tongued bombshell who delivered the show’s best one-liners.
While Pete is another fave of mine.
I have watched every episode of Towie.
They would have been a reality TV super-couple: The Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton of the Instagram era – but with veneers and fillers.
I am sad they didn’t last.
Although perhaps it means they might pop up on my favourite TV shows again.
So every cloud . . .

I’ve been trying (admittedly not very hard – or successfully) to lose the same half-stone for about five years.

For some reason, going to the gym once a week and switching to skinny cappuccinos just hasn’t done the trick.
There has been more success on the cigarette front. I downloaded the NHS app in November and have basically given them up.
Although I must confess I had a cheeky fag at a birthday party the other day.
What would Bridget say? Smoked two cigarettes and drank a bottle of Chardonnay – must try harder.
RELIEF TO MPS WHO SIN
A TORY MP had to be rescued from a brothel at 4am after fearing he’d been honey-trapped by a suspected KGB agent, it was revealed this week.
But one person’s sex scandal is another’s business opportunity.
Reputation consultants Animus Associates have been emailing MPs offering to help if they get into any, er, embarrassing scrapes.
Their brochure declares that a politician’s life “isn’t easy” and “you are vulnerable to making a mistake, being accused of something you haven’t done and facing a media storm without people knowing the facts”.
Anti-sleaze watchdogs are “all waiting to catch you out” and chief whips “can’t always” be relied on to be sympathetic, it darkly adds.
But fear not – aid is on the way.
The firm promises to help scandal-hit politicians and even provides testimonials from (anonymous) MPs and peers praising its “discretion”.
Phew. Finally our politicians can feel free to say yes to that three-in-a-bed romp without worrying.

DONALD TRUMP has not simply abandoned Ukraine – it feels like he has also abandoned America’s belief in freedom, democracy and any notion of moral decency.
The POTUS gloats that Ukraine is not his country’s concern, as there is “a great big, beautiful ocean and separation” between America and Ukraine’s mass graves, ruined cities and murderous invaders. True.

GettyWould Trump have sucked up to Hitler, just as he sucks up to Putin?[/caption]
But that same great big, beautiful ocean and separation was there when brave young Americans crossed it to fight against tyranny in the great wars of the last century.
Americans crossed that ocean in an age when the President of the United States was seen as the leader of the free world.
That age is over now.
And when Trump asserts that Europe needs to defend itself, he sounds like a reasonable, rational man who is saying nothing less than the honest truth.
But when he asserts that Ukraine started the war with Russia, Trump is about as wrong as any man could ever be.
And when he rants that Ukraine’s President Zelensky is a dictator who has not held elections since Russia’s murderous, unprovoked invasion — launched exactly three years ago tomorrow — Trump sounds somewhere beyond merely wrong.
Trump sounds deranged. Stupid. An appeaser of evil. And totally ignorant of history and the reality of war (Trump sat out his own generation’s war in Vietnam because he had painful feet, poor lamb).
Winston Churchill did not hold elections when this country was fighting for its life against Nazi Germany.
Would Trump have called Churchill a dictator?
Would Trump have victim-shamed the British as our cities burned, exactly as he is victim-shaming the Ukrainians today? Would Trump have sucked up to Hitler, just as he sucks up to Putin?
For all their belligerent macho talk, this MAGA White House looks pathetic as they genuflect to the ex-KGB thug in the Kremlin.
Trump raves about the “dictator” in Ukraine — but has the perma-tanned chump noticed that the greatest dictator Europe has seen since Stalin rules with an iron fist in Moscow, and anything resembling dissent often gets thrown out of a very high window?
Trump rails about the lack of democracy in Ukraine.
Has he even heard of Alexei Navalny, the courageous voice of opposition to Putin’s Russia, who was poisoned, imprisoned, and died in a prison colony in Western Siberia one year ago?

Vice-President JD Vance lectures Europe about freedom of speech. Does Vance imagine there is anything remotely resembling free speech in Russia?
Trump henchman Elon Musk claims on his social media platform X that Ukraine’s Zelensky is “despised by the people of Ukraine”.
No, Elon — it is Donald Trump who many of us are learning to despise.
Too many on the right in the UK are terrified of offending Trump and walk on tiptoes around this global bully.
Trump sounds deranged. Stupid. An appeaser of evil.
Tony Parsons
Both Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage refute Trump’s sickening allegation that President Zelensky is a “dictator.”
But both Bojo and Farage try to excuse Trump’s puerile allegations. “Trump’s statements are not intended to be historically accurate but to shock Europeans into action,” insists Boris, while Farage says, “You shouldn’t always take everything Donald Trump says absolutely literally.”
Er — why not?
Keir Starmer visits the US next week for their first face-to-face-meeting since Trump returned to the White House.
If the PM can sell Trump a peace deal in Washington that does not allow Putin to claim any kind of victory, then he will have done an historic service to humanity. It will not be easy. Because Trump acts as if he knows the price tag of everything.
But not the value of freedom.
FINAL SAY ON VINYL
AUTHOR Marcel Proust felt his entire past flooding back when he took one bite of his childhood snack – a Madeleine cake.
I feel the same way when I hold a copy of Never Mind The Bollocks.
A vinyl copy, of course. Vinyl is back – big time.
Last year 6.7million of the old-school albums were sold in this country.
And this week John Lewis – best known for their home appliances and soft furnishings – teamed up with legendary indie record shop Rough Trade to sell vinyl in the department store.
Rough Trade will put together “a carefully curated selection of old and modern classics” for sale in John Lewis, including LPs by new acts like Chappell Roan and old favourites like Nevermind by Nirvana.
Nothing beats the tactile wonder of vinyl.
And if this vinyl revival continues, then one day I may even get something to play them on.

WAR OF WORDS
WHEN Jude Bellingham was sent off for using foul and abusive language last weekend during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna, his manager Carlo Ancelotti was quick to rush to his defence.
“The referee did not understand Bellingham’s English,” insisted the Real boss.
“He said ‘f*** off’, not ‘f*** you’ – that’s way different.”
It’s true that “f*** off” could be interpreted as an expression of surprise, whereas “f**** you” is more obviously abusive. Ancelotti is right.
The British have as many uses for the word “f***” as Eskimos have for snow.
The Jam: Now that was entertainment
RICK BUCKLER, who has died at the age of 69, was the thunderous heartbeat of one of this country’s most iconic bands – The Jam.
News of Rick’s death brought an outpouring of mourning.
GettyThe Jam were a real band. One of the great British groups[/caption]
For an entire generation, The Jam means more than The Beatles and Stones.
I knew The Jam in the very early days. Helped them carry their kit. Remember their fistfights. Recall Paul’s dad, John, driving their van.
I saw them play live in the tiniest of clubs, including one night at The Roxy when there were only four people in the audience – me and three members of The Clash.
Rick was always the quiet one – the Charlie Watts of punk.
Those early months of obscurity did not last long. The world fell in love with The Jam at first sight.
Soon, the three schoolmates from Woking were heading for Top Of The Pops.
The Jam were a punk band whose hit singles Eton Rifles, A Town Called Malice, In The City and Strange Town will live for ever. The Jam were one of those bands that formed in school.
They hit the big time because their youngest member – Paul Weller – was a generational talent.
But Rick and Bruce were far more than bit players.
The Jam were a real band. One of the great British groups.
And more than 40 years after they broke up, Rick Buckler would have smiled his slow, knowing smile to see how much he is still remembered, revered and loved.
NO TIME TO BUY, BOND
NOW that Amazon has control of the James Bond franchise, some wags have suggested that 007 will be receiving his new high-tech gadgets in a brown box.
In my experience, Bond’s hi-tech gadgets are just as likely to be delivered to the house next door.
For those of us who have loved Bond since the young Sean Connery had a twinkle in his eye, the big worry is that Amazon will milk the life out of the world’s favourite spy.
Every new chapter in the Star Wars saga used to be an event.
That ended when Disney bought Star Wars from Lucasfilm, leading to multiple sequels, prequels and spin-offs.
Since Daniel Craig first played Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale, there have only been five Bond films. Five films in 16 years!
We are likely to see a lot more of James in the coming years.
But 007 survived Rosa Klebb, Auric Goldfinger and Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Bond will surely survive Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
