Shane Ferguson got into a confrontation with Bohemians manager Alan ReynoldsThe row escalated and led to both Reynolds and Derry boss Tiernan Lynch being sent off
https://twitter.com/LeagueofIreland/status/1893032896341922115
There was controversy just after the tenth minute when a confrontation on the sideline led to both managers being shown red cards.
It started when Bohemians were given a throw-in and Derry’s Shane Ferguson tried to prod the ball away, preventing Alan Reynolds from picking it up.
This led to both men coming together which, in turn, led to both sets of players and management getting involved in the row.
When it was quashed by the referee, both Reynolds and Derry counterpart Tiernan Lynch were given their marching orders while Ferguson was booked for his involvement.
Friday night’s result represented a major come down for the Gypsies, who had started their League of Ireland campaign with a sensational win over Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium.
And assistant coach Stephen O’Donnell lamented their poor start to the contest.
He told LOITV: “We expected a tough game.
“We knew Derry, after losing last week, would come out of the traps and conditions led itself to a scrappy game.
“We didn’t start the game well.
“We gave Derry a leg up in the sense of going 1-0 up and having something to hold onto.
“Second-half, obviously us playing with the elements.
“Got a bit of a foothold but, again, didn’t feel we were clean enough in or out of possession to have long spells of dominance and we would be disappointed with that.”
The sideline row was one of the biggest talking points from the game, and O’Donnell believes a mountain was made out of a molehill.
He added: “I am not sure what happened.
“There was a little schmozz. Probably more made of it than it should have.
“You see them things with the technical areas being so close to each other here.
“Sometimes it lends itself to that and obviously the crowd is on top of you which is good for an atmosphere point of view but I think there was very little in it.
“Obviously the ref felt he had to take action and send off both managers.”
1 hour agoworld NewsComments Off on ‘I haven’t found closure & never will’ – Irish star ‘always angry’ over grandad’s ‘murder’ as he blasts probe failures
KEITH Barry has decided not to be consumed by seeking justice for the killers of his grandfather.
But the magician said: “I will always be angry . . . I haven’t found closure from this, I never will.”

Grandad Paddy Barry, 82, who was found injured in his house in Waterford following an attempted burglary in September 2009.
The OAP later died in hospital after falling into a coma.
No one has ever been charged over the vicious killing, despite a file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecution by Gardai.
Keith said: “My grandfather was beaten black and blue. His head was beaten against the ground and for the last 16 years no one has been caught.
“I got very angry about it and wanted the people responsible caught.”
But Keith said the Garda investigation has not led to any charges being brought, adding: “It’s supposed to be an open case but no one is bothering to investigate.
“In my mind Paddy Barry was murdered.”
Gardai insist the matter was fully investigated.
However, TV star Keith told the Grief Podcast with Venetia Quick how the alleged name of his grandfather’s killer was spray painted on walls in Waterford town, and in nearby Tramore.
He said: “The message named a person who they said should be investigated. It must be the same person who is spray painting this everywhere.
“You don’t need to be Inspector Clouseau to check the CCTV and see who is doing it. But I informed the Gardai.
“My cousin tells me that Gardai have appointed a new liaison officer on the case. They spoke to my cousin but they haven’t rung me. I thought ‘here we go again’.
“What we need is a savvy, hungry investigative garda. If the people who did this to my grandad were in their 30s at the time, they would be in their 50s now. It would be beneficial to get them off the streets.”
Keith, 48, said he had since taken a personal decision not to be consumed by the case.
He explained: “You go through grief, and you’re shocked and you get angry but then you realise this is consuming me for years.
“So you have to make a choice and go, ‘am I going to let this consume my life now as some people do?’ You can look for justice, this can’t become my life, so I won’t let it consume me.
NO CLOSURE
“But I will always be angry. My grandfather was 82, he was smoking a cigarette in his house with the alarm on, and three locks on the door and a number of people broke his door down and beat him up, he died five days later.
“It’s not a death anybody should have to deal with in a family because it’s not the shock of him dying, it’s the shock he didn’t die from natural causes. I haven’t found closure from this, I never will.”
And Keith revealed how his dad, Ken, passed away last month after a battle with cancer without the closure of having Paddy’s killers brought to justice.
Gardai say they do not comment on named individuals.
But a spokesperson said: “Gardaí are aware of and conducted an investigation into reports of graffiti . . . and allegations made regarding the burglary investigation that occurred in 2009.
“Gardai conducted an extensive investigation in relation to these allegations. This matter was fully investigated and the allegations made were of no assistance to the burglary investigation.”
Keith has decided not to be consumed by the caseRTE
He shushed the crowd after temporarily avoiding defeat versus Gerwyn PriceA sold-out crowd of 9000 punters had a blast throughout Thursday evening’s raucous affairThe day previous he got to meet rap/pop star Pitbull who was playing the same venue
The fiery Welshman beat Littler for the FIFTH consecutive time in a high-quality affair that finished up 6-4.
During their match-up the ordinarily chilled out 18-year-old actually lost his cool with the crowd at one moment.
He embraced being anointed the pantomime villain with Price for once taken in by the locals due to him having worn a green top for the occasion.
After winning a leg to prolong the contest, the Warrington native signalled to the crowd to calm down as they were fervently egging on his foe by that stage in proceedings.
Afterwards though he happily acknowledged it was just the typically boisterous but good-natured atmospheres that have contributed to darts’ surge in popularity.
He said: “It’s not the way I wanted to follow up the win last week (in Glasgow).
“But there’s loads more darts to play. I appreciate everyone who came out to support.”
The two days beforehand had seen more gentle scenes as he got a chance to mingle with Pitbull – who’s behind Littler’s ‘Green Light’ walkout song.
And the Warrington native also made time for some local kids as he made a surprise visit to the D7 Youth Darts Academy at Naomh Fíonnbarra GAA Club in Cabra.
The moment was captured on film by RTE, with a countdown proceeding the teenage sensation’s arrival.
He was then flocked by kids for autographs and photographs before throwing a few darts himself.
It was a moment that went viral on social media, with fans praising Littler for a moment that the kids are unlikely to ever forget.
As if the 18-year-old didn’t have enough on his plate between all of that, he revealed to the Indo Sport podcast that he’s currently preparing for his driver theory test on TUESDAY.
Asked if he’s ever tempted to splurge on a Ferrari with his winnings from the likes of the World Championship, he replied: “When I pass my test maybe.
“I’ve not started any lessons. I’ve my theory test on Tuesday which I’ve been having a go at studying for.
“I’ve definitely got time for that.”
Throughout that interview it comes across just how much travel has been thrust upon him for all that he is making good money as well as extending his already global fame.
But seemingly he doesn’t mind too much as he’s already accepted another opportunity to be centre stage at another event since departing Dublin.
Liverpool Win: Ok, it’s not been a particularly happy hunting ground for Liverpool in the Premier League, but given Manchester City’s key absentees and their meek display against Real Madrid midweek – we expect Arne Slot’s side to complete the Premier League double over City for just the third time.
BTTS (YES): Nobody has scored more goals than Manchester City over the last six league matches (20) and we expect them to strike once against a Liverpool side who’ve shipped eight in their last five away games in all competitions.
Mohamed Salah to score: Very little explanation needed here. The Egyptian has netted in each of his last seven starts and has more Premier League goals against Pep Guardiola’s side (since 2016-17) than any other player.
Bernardo Silva carded: Always a favourite selection of mine in the big games. The Portuguese, 30, has received more yellow cards (7) against Liverpool than any other side faced in his career.

Liverpool make the short 39-mile trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday for a pivotal Premier League clash against Manchester City.
The Reds head into the weekend top of the table, holding an eight-point lead over title rivals Arsenal, albeit having played a game more.
However, with Mikel Arteta’s side hosting struggling West Ham on Saturday, that gap is likely to be trimmed to five points by the time Liverpool get the ball rolling 24 hours later.
Arne Slot’s men have had the opportunity to put one hand on the title in recent weeks, but frustrating draws against Everton and Aston Villa have left the door open for a potential late challenge from Arsenal.
Liverpool will also be looking for a much-improved display after a nervy 2-1 win over Wolves last weekend – a game in which they failed to register a single shot in the second half, a first since records began in 2003-04.
While they created plenty of chances against Aston Villa last time out, their finishing let them down, with just three of 17 efforts hitting the target – including a glaring miss from Darwin Nunez.
Nonetheless, Liverpool are aiming to complete a rare Premier League double over City, having won 2-0 at Anfield in December. A victory on Sunday would mark only the third time they have managed the feat.
And, encouragingly for the visitors, they are unbeaten in their last 13 top-flight matches played on a Sunday.
For the hosts, there will be an immediate need to regroup after their midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid – the first time Pep Guardiola has been eliminated before the last 16 in his 16-season tenure in the competition.
The City boss cut a dejected figure on the bench, but on the domestic front, there is reason for optimism following last weekend’s 4-0 demolition of Newcastle.
Omar Marmoush netted a stunning 33-minute hat-trick in that encounter, though City’s attacking plans for Sunday could hinge on Erling Haaland’s fitness, with the Norwegian facing a race against time to recover.
History favours the home side, with City losing just one of their last 15 Premier League meetings with Liverpool at the Etihad (W8 D6).

Captain
Crosses and set-pieces will be a real concern for Pep Guardiola this weekend, especially with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate about.
In terms of headed shots from defenders, the Liverpool captain ranks third in the Premier League with 13 efforts this season. In the last meeting at Anfield, Van Dijk missed a trio of gilt-edged opportunities from set-pieces and could get the opportunity to put that right on Sunday.

With 15 goals and 10 assists in Liverpool’s 13 away games in the Premier League this season, Mohamed Salah has the most ever goal involvements by a player away from home in a single campaign in the competition (23).
He’s also enjoyed his games against Manchester City.
Salah has been involved in more Premier League goals against Pep Guardiola’s side (since 2016-17) than any other player (13 – 8 goals, 5 assists). In fact, only Steven Gerrard (14) has been involved in more against the Citizens in the competition’s history. The Egyptian has also created 36 chances for his colleagues away from home this season — eight more than the next Liverpool player.

2 hours agoworld NewsComments Off on Sky and Virgin customers warned two hugely popular TV channels are shutting down in days after 35 years of broadcasting
IT’S the final countdown for two beloved channels as they prepare to disappear from UK screens forever next week.
The popular duo are being replaced as part of a huge shake-up on Friday (February 28).
Eurosport has been on air in the UK for 35 yearsGetty
Eurosport has been a beloved part of the TV schedule since 1989.
But both Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 will be no more in the UK and Ireland, as well as the Eurosport Player and the Eurosport app.
The pair have been home to favourites includingOlympics, major snooker tournaments, tennisgrand slams and the Tour de France.
Owners Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) recently announced that Eurosport’s content will largely shift to its other channel, TNT Sports – but it means viewers on Sky and Virgin Media face the prospect of paying more than £30 extra a month to watch it.
Virgin exclusively revealed to The Sun that it is contacting customers who regularly watch Eurosport to offer them free access to TNT Sports for the remainder of their contract to soften the blow.
Meanwhile, some of Eurosports programming will shift to free channel Quest too.
WBD Sports Europe chief Scott Young said: “Combining Eurosport and TNT Sports content in the UK and Ireland will enable us to offer a single, premium viewing experience for sports fans.
“We know audiences are looking for a slightly simpler journey on where to find the sport they love.
“This move will also continue to best deliver value for our leagues and federation partners, as we continue our 35 years plus commitment to investment and championing of sport on our screens.”
The TV schedules currently suggest that Eurosport will shut down in the early hours of Friday.
Eurosport 1’s last show is Cycling: Tour of Galicia, which ends at 2am.
And Eurosport 2 will bow out with Cross-Country Skiing, also ending at 2am.
This is just the start - more changes ahead
Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
Broadcasting is going through an almighty shift at the moment with the push toward streaming at a key point.
Despite this latest move, Discovery+’s days are likely numbered.
The streaming service has closed in several countries already to make way for a replacement, Max, bringing HBO and Discovery content under one roof.
The UK is one of the few big markets where Max hasn’t launched yet because of existing agreements with Sky, allowing Sky Atlantic to air big HBO-made hits like Game of Thrones and The White Lotus.
But the pair recently announced a new deal that will pave the way for Max’s launch in the UK early 2026 as a standalone app, while Sky customers will get access at no extra cost.
So expect even bigger changes in the TV and streaming world next year.
2 hours agoworld NewsComments Off on I lost my leg in tragic accident and now I’m set to make space history for Britain – I’m even training for crash landing
EVER wondered what it’s like to be an astronaut? Well, it requires a whole lot of ground work, literally.
Before a handful of skilled humans get launched into space, they must undergo rigorous training, from navigating microgravity to winter survival.
ESA–P. SebirotBritish astronaut-in-training John McFall in a mockup of the International Space Station (ISS) at the European Space Agency base in Cologne[/caption]

McFall is the first astronaut candidate with a physical disability
Hopeful astronaut-to-be, John McFall, is one of four training for a stint on the International Space Station (ISS) at the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Cologne, Germany this year.
While there’s no guarantee McFall, or any of his cohort, will ever see past the Karman line, they will be based in Cologne for at least a year to attend the official school of astronauts.
Unlike his cohort, McFall has actually been based in Cologne since June 2023 to take part in ESA’s Fly! Feasibility study.
He is the first astronaut candidate with a physical disability.
The former Paralympian and orthopaedic surgeon was selected in 2022 to work on a ground-breaking study to see if he can go to space safely.
McFall is an amputee, and lost the lower part of his right leg in a motorcycle accident when he was 19.
The study found “no showstoppers” that would prevent an astronaut with a disability like McFall’s from joining long duration space missions, according to ESA.
ESAAn aerial shot of ESA’s sprawling base[/caption]
ESAThis is where all European astronauts train[/caption]
A day in the life
McFall is now five weeks into his official astronaut reserves training.
“I’m living in Bonn, which is about 20-25km south of Cologne. I’m living here with my wife and three kids,” says a peppy McFall.
It’s about 22km from ESA’s sprawling base – a journey which he describes as “quite a nice” cycle, though he will sometimes drive.
Upon arrival, he’ll leave his bike or car and head to class.
“A lot of the training at this stage is theoretical stuff,” McFall says.
“So, the things that you need to know if you were to fly, but also things you need to know to communicate with people about the benefits of spaceflight.”
Though he also has classes on psychology.
“We’ve done quite a lot on how humans interact with each other, what we call human behavior and performance,” adds McFall.
“It’s quite interesting reflecting on who you are as a character, and how your personality interacts with other people’s personalities.”
And the sciences.
“At the moment, we’re exploring areas of radiation physics, radiation biology, and also the effects of the microgravity environment on biology as a whole, on humans,” he says. “But also how microgravity affects the growth of plants.”
Then there’s P.E. – which not only gets the body fit for space, but will also help train future astronauts for spacewalks.
“We’re always doing plenty of exercise as a team,” says McFall, which includes the gym and swimming.
“We’ve also been doing some diving as well, because diving is a precursor to learning the skills to do spacewalks.
“It’s sort of one of the first stepping stones to be able to do that.”
ESADiving helps astronauts prepare for future spacewalks[/caption]
ESA/TrailhavenMcFall in his makeshift shelter during winter survival training in the Pyrenees mountains[/caption]
Winter survival training
Outside of the classroom, astronautsmust complete a winter survival training in the snow-capped Spanish Pyrenees mountains.
Although McFall completed this a year ahead of his class.
“As part of [the feasibility] study, we had to demonstrate that I was capable of doing astronaut training,” explains McFall, who joined the class of 2022 that started their training in April 2023.
The tasks are hard work, says McFall, and are designed not only to boost teamwork while under pressure but to survive a rogue landing scenario in a hostile environment.
“One of the reasons we do winter survival training is that if your spacecraft were to land in an unpredictable place, and that happened to be somewhere very cold and wintry, then you need to be able to know how to survive there until you can be rescued,” he continues.
“We did plenty of hiking in the snow. We learned about shelter building and different techniques for building shelters to sleep out in the snow.
“We learned about emergency procedures should you fall into water, rescuing people from water, protecting against hypothermia, learning to build fires in the snow, and if you’re in a snowy forest, what sort of materials can you use to construct a fire? Those sorts of things.”
But McFall’s toughest task he says, beyond steeling himself against -5°C temperatures in wet clothes, was transporting a casualty in snowshoes.
“We had a simulation where we had to transport a casualty… but you’re wading through 50cm of snow. It’s awkward, it’s clumsy, it’s cumbersome,” adds McFall.
“You’ve got to make a makeshift stretcher out of trees and branches and some basic materials that you have.
“The terrain is difficult as well, we had steep slopes to climb up whilst carrying someone, and they are a dead weight.
“When you have a casualty, you don’t realise actually how heavy people are. So, that was quite tough, but rewarding.”

The Fly! Study
McFall underwent lots of tests as part of the Fly! study.
“We had to do a test to simulate changes in the fluid movement in your body,” explains McFall.
“Because when you go to space, the fluid shifts more up into your trunk and into your head and less into your legs.
“We wanted to try and understand [how this would] affect the fit of my leg, the fit of my prosthesis in space.”
Astronauts’ legs shrink between five and 10 per cent within hours of being in space – a change that persists throughout the mission.
A prosthesis would need to be worn when exercising – which astronauts commit two hours a day to onboard the ISS.
To simulate the effects of microgravity, McFall first underwent tilt-table testing, here he was swung around slowly to mimic the effects of space.
He then cycled on a bike machine while laying flat, to assess how fluid shifts during exercise – all of which did not affect the comfort of his prosthesis.
Then there was the hardware testing, to testing the stiffness of different running blades on an altered gravity treadmill.
“Astronauts are envoys of Earth, right? They are ambassadors of humanity,” says McFall.
“And I think to that degree, they should be representative of humanity as well.
“This is by no means the end, but very much the beginning of this journey to try and understand astronauts with different physical abilities.”

Ever since Married At First Sight ended, the reality star has been on a weight loss journey – and the hard work has certainly paid off.
Adam stunned fans when he showed off his slim figure on a recent trip to Dubai.
Fans immediately rushed to comment on the photo, with one saying: “Why do you look so different!”
Another added: “You look so trim and healthy!”
This one was stunned: “You look like a different person!”
Adam recently told The Sun that he has ‘chemistry’ with AmyInstagram
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, he said: “I don’t speak to Polly, we haven’t spoken in a long time.
“I’m not missing married life but I am missing everyone, we were one big family.
“I’m on the new reunion show in Feb, there’s a lot of drama but you’ll have to wait and see.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time
Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.
The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.
Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.
Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.
Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”
Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.
Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.
“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.
“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’
“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”
Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.
Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.
They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.
Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”
