In each of Trevor Lawrence’s four seasons as the starting quarterback in Duval County, the Jacksonville Jaguars have had a different pass-catcher lead the team in receiving yards. 5 days agoworld NewsComments Off on ‘Monster’ trawler detained off coast of Ireland and held at Cork port over alleged EU fishing offences as man arrested
A “MONSTER” trawler was detained off the south west coast of Ireland for alleged EU fishing offences and a man has been arrested.
The European Fisheries Control Agency patrol vessel Ocean Protector detained the German-registered Helen Mary, a factory ship which can process its catch onboard.
She was escorted to Cork Harbour and is now laid up at Tivoli Docks where she is being searched.
The Helen Mary is almost 117m long and almost 18m wide.
It is registered at the port of Rostock in Germany.
The trawler, which has a crew of 50 and a storage capacity for a massive 7,000 tonnes of fish, was fishing 65 nautical miles off Mizen Head.
In 2019, the same ship was detained in Scotland on suspected fishery offences.
She has been listed by Greenpeace as one of 20 “monster trawlers” that the organisation claims is responsible for overfishing in the Atlantic.
The following year Greenpeace activists boarded and stopped the super trawler from fishing in a protected area east of Scotland.
The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority in Ireland said that on Sunday, officers on board a European Fisheries Control Agency patrol boat detected suspected infringements of European fisheries legislation that involved a sea-fishing vessel in the Irish Exclusive Economic Zone.
The operation was conducted by EFCA, which is a European Union agency that protects and promotes the EU Common Fisheries Policy, under a Joint Deployment Plan.
In a statement the agency said: “The Joint Deployment Plans framework provides the legal basis where the relationships of joint deployment of inspections assets/inspectors are set and are applicable to all assets of the concerned Member States and EFCA.
SHIP ESCORTED
“When operating in EU waters, the EFCA inspectors always have Union Inspectors from Member States onboard and they are the leading inspectors.
“The vessel has been directed to Cork port.”
The EFCA patrol boat, the Ocean Protector, boarded the Helen Mary off the southwest coast on Sunday.
It was escorted to the deepwater Tivoli dock near Cork City, where it has been detained today.
Gardai said they received a report of alleged fishery breaches in the Port of Cork, Co Cork this morning.
They stated: “A man in his 40s has been arrested and conveyed to a Garda station in County Cork and is being detained under the provisions of the Fisheries and Maritime Jurisdiction Act 2006.
“The investigation is ongoing.”

Joe Swash is often hailed as the cook in his family with Stacey Solomon, and now he’s helping others craft the skill.

The new Channel 4 show, Batch from Scratch: Cooking for Less, partners with Lidl to help families through the cost of living crisis with simple batch cooking recipes.
Tonight’s show was a hit as they shared two different dinners that can be made at the same time in less than 30 minutes.
Joe, who is husband to Loose Women panellist Stacey Solomon has five kids himself, so knows just how hectic getting dinner done can be.
The Powell family, who appeared on the show, spent over £256 a week on food – almost double the national average for their family of five.
And that’s not all, their indecisiveness wasn’t just costing them money but also time as they spent almost a day a week shopping and prepping food.
Wanting to change their ways, Joe and Suzanne stepped in to help sharing two delicious weekday dinner recipes.
Suzanne started by making a meat sauce using frozen chopped onions, garlic, dried oregano, 750 grams of minced beef, three grated carrots and two tins of chopped tomato.
To save time, buy pre-chopped frozen onion and don’t bother peeling your carrots before grating them to thicken your sauce.
Once it’s cooked, you can split the sauce in two to make two different recipes – the first being lasagne.
Savvy Suzanne recommends a time-saving recipe for the white sauce using creme fraiche, half a cup of milk and grated mozzarella.
Once mixed into a smooth sauce you can layer it with the meet and lasagne sheets.
You can freeze it as soon as it is cooled down and it can be reheated from frozen to serve five people.
With the other half of the meat mixture, you can add two tins of drained cook lentils to help bulk it out.
Lentils have lots of protein, are a similar texture to mince meat and are super cheap to add to meals and make them more filling.
You can then place it in an ovenproof dish and add ready made mash on top.
Suzanne says this can be a bit more expensive but is much quicker and will stop your pie from going soggy as fresh mash can produce lots of water.
The entire meal prep should take you just 25 minutes to complete and will save you a tonne of stress during the week.
The new show is available to watch on Channel 4 at 8pm on Monday evenings.
How to save money on your food shop
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save hundreds of pounds a year:
Odd boxes – plenty of retailers offer slightly misshapen fruit and veg or surplus food at a discounted price.
Lidl sells five kilos of fruit and veg for just £1.50 through its Waste Not scheme while Aldi shoppers can get Too Good to Go bags which contain £10 worth of all kinds of products for £3.30.
Sainsbury’s also sells £2 “Taste Me, Don’t Waste Me” fruit and veg boxes to help shoppers reduced food waste and save cash.
Food waste apps – food waste apps work by helping shops, cafes, restaurants and other businesses shift stock that is due to go out of date and passing it on to members of the public.
Some of the most notable ones include Too Good to Go and Olio.
Too Good to Go’s app is free to sign up to and is used by millions of people across the UK, letting users buy food at a discount.
Olio works similarly, except users can collect both food and other household items for free from neighbours and businesses.
Yellow sticker bargains – yellow sticker bargains, sometimes orange and red in certain supermarkets, are a great way of getting food on the cheap.
But what time to head out to get the best deals varies depending on the retailer. You can see the best times for each supermarket here.
Super cheap bargains – sign up to bargain hunter Facebook groups like Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK where shoppers regularly post hauls they’ve found on the cheap, including food finds.
“Downshift” – you will almost always save money going for a supermarket’s own-brand economy lines rather than premium brands.
The move to lower-tier ranges, also known as “downshifting” and hailed by consumer expert Martin Lewis, could save you hundreds of pounds a year on your food shop.

SIMON Cowell’s search for Britain’s Got Talent superstars has fallen down his pecking order in favour of acts such as pole-dancing seagulls.
In its 18 years on air, his ITV variety show has unearthed stellar performers including Susan Boyle, Paul Potts and dance troupe Diversity — along with prancing pooch Pudsey.

Now, Simon says ahead of the new series he is looking for weird talent that can create high-flying moments for YouTube.
The head judge, 65, explained: “My outlook on things has changed since series one. When I first started it was like, ‘You’ve got to find a superstar.’
“And, of course, we always hope we will find someone who’s going to have a mega, mega, mega career.
“At the same time, whether you’re in magic, comedy or dance, where else are you going to showcase yourself to a huge audience and have that kind of, what I call, a ‘moment’? No other TV show does that.”
The new series features a pole-dancer dressed as a seagull and a rock band wearing dinosaur costumes.
After years judging singers on The X Factor, Simon now loves the absurd, saying: “I laugh at weird things. I have a very strange sense of humour.
“People still think after all these years I know what’s happening during auditions but no one tells us anything. It’s that surprise element of never knowing what’s coming next.
“As much as I love music shows, you know a singer’s followed by another singer. With this show, you just don’t know.”
With Ant and Dec back as hosts, he is also delighted to again be joined on the panel by Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli — plus a new judge, YouTuber KSI.
Simon added: “Amanda is our Britain’s Got Talent queen and she deserves that crown.
“We have become great friends. I do consider her one of my best friends and Alesha and Bruno are genuinely friends in real life, too.”

Michael van Gerwen was beaten by an Irish amateur on Monday
Van Gerwen was beaten on home soil in Rosmalen, the Netherlands.
Flynn’s average of 92.41 in the match was lower than Van Gerwen’s 97.01 but he held his nerve at the crucial moments.
He works in social care in County Limerick in his day job and was only added to the PDC event’s entry list on Sunday morning.
His inclusion came after several late withdrawals from the tournament.
The last-minute phone call meant a three-hour dash by car from his home on the West coast of Ireland to Dublin airport.
Flynn told the BBC: “MVG wasn’t the name you want to see as your first opponent – you’d hope for an easier game.
“I knew my form was good coming into the tournament but to beat a three-time world champion is a massive moment in my career.”
Flynn – nicknamed ‘the Flyer’ – is ranked 11th on the Challenge Tour, which is used as a reserve list for Players Championship events.

When she made her Geordie Shore debut in 2015 she’d had no work done
It comes as the Geordie Shore star recently checked herself into hospital and teased the start of a “new chapter”.
Speaking on Paul C Brunson‘s We Need to Talk podcast, the emotional Geordie Shore star admitted she felt so low she “didn’t want to be here”.
She told the Celebs Go Dating star: “I’ve been seeing a therapist.
“I always doubt myself and look in the mirror and say I don’t look nice today. I’m very mean to myself and I need to give myself a break.”
Chloe continued: “I felt like I was going through depression.
“The main thing is I want to love myself again. I’ve been rock bottom where I’ve felt I didn’t want to be here, that’s how bottom I was.
“I get scared of going back to that mindset … it was dark. I can’t go back to feeling like that.”
Chloe admitted she regrets the cosmetic surgery she’s had over the years, saying she wishes she’d never touched her body in the first place.
She said: “Listen, I hold my hands up – I made a mistake. I got surgery because I was insecure and felt ugly. If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t have done it.”
She said she became trapped in a vicious cycle, constantly trying to achieve “perfection” – but now realises it was all for nothing.
The star said: “Surgery is a dark hole. You always want more – but what is perfection? It doesn’t exist. I was trying so hard to make people like me and stop the nasty comments, but I lost myself along the way.
“I’ve wasted my 20s chasing some girl I wasn’t born to be.”
Now, as she approaches 30, she’s determined to embrace the real her.
She continued: “I don’t want to be known for having a big arse.
“I want to go back to being the funny Chloe who doesn’t worry about what she looks like. That’s where my happiness is.”
Chloe previously shared how she had spent over £50,000 on cosmetic procedures.
It comes after The Sun revealed Chloe is “correcting” her botched surgeries.
Chloe has already had her bum reduced and says she’s considering reversing more of her cosmetic work.
She revealed she’s thinking about getting more procedures reversed and has even considered following in Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague’s footsteps – after the star dissolved her fillers.
She said: “Who knows, I might be like Molly-Mae one day!” “I want to go, hopefully, fully back to natural.
“I might keep a little bit of lip filler – Christ, I won’t go all the way – but when I’ve healed from my bum surgery, I might go for the next step. So maybe my breasts
“I’m not saying I’m unhappy with them, but if I’m on this journey now, why not go the whole monty?”
As part of her transformation, Chloe says she’s making a conscious effort to stop editing her social media snaps and show off the real her.
She revealed: “I’m going to try. I’m not saying never because I’m still insecure and finding myself, but I’m trying not to edit my body at all.
“It’s baby steps – walk before you can run.”
She also revealed she’s on a mission to change her career – and doesn’t want to be known as the wild party girl from Geordie Shore anymore.
The star continued: “I don’t just want to be known as ‘Chloe Ferry drunk on TV’ or ‘kick-off Chloe’ because that’s not me.
“These next two years, I want to expand and just live my life – not in someone else’s body.
“It’s scary because I’m stepping into this new womanly era, but I’m ready. I want to be my true, authentic self – and I’m here for it.”

5 days agoworld NewsComments Off on Man, 38, compared ramming Garda cars in stolen seven-tonne truck road rampage to ‘maximum stars’ in Grand Theft Auto
A MAN who rammed Garda cars while driving a stolen seven-tonne rigid truck and compared his behaviour to a scene from Grand Theft Auto will be sentenced in May.
Istvan Konyari, who previously lived at an apartment in Shandon Street, appeared before Cork Circuit Criminal Court for sentencing today in relation to a serious ramming incident in November 2023.
Detective Garda Peter Quinn said the 38-year-old took part in a three-day crime spree which eventually ended in the car park of Dwyer’s Electrical in Forge Hill on the south side of Cork city.
He said Konyari put lives at risk as he rammed Garda cars in the confined car park space in Forge Hill on the morning of November 8, 2023.
He was only halted in his tracks when a single shot was fired through the windscreen of the truck he was driving.
Konyari then got out of the truck and put his hands over his head.
In his garda interview, he compared his antics to the video game Grand Theft Auto.
He felt that it was a case of “maximum stars” when a member of the Armed Response Unit fired the single shot through his windscreen to bring his escapades to a halt.
He pleaded guilty to carrying out three burglaries, stealing a truck and previously stealing a van which he used to store the items he stole – including an antique clock, gas cylinders, and toilet rolls.
He also stopped off at a garage and stole items from a clothes washing machine. These included a nurse’s uniform and children’s clothing.
The court heard that early last year Konyari was sentenced at Cork District Court for a series of burglaries in the Douglas area of the city where he committed his robberies while wearing a distinctive Halloween mask.
Sentencing was adjourned today when defence barrister Alison McCarthy said that a psychiatric report was needed in the case prior to its finalisation.
Konyari was remanded in custody for sentencing on May 7 next.
