Newcastle welcomed Sunderland for a derby day clash in front of a bumper crowd at St James Park.
The players had been met with a wall of noise as fans flocked to pack out the Gallowgate End during international week.
But with no segregation in play, one Sunderland fan decided to bizarrely taunt his rivals up close.
Viral footage showed the supporter rushing along the outer concourse at St James’.
The fan – decked out in a Black Cats shirt – then grabbed a discarded Toon flag from the floor.
He faced the home support and began pretending to wipe his bum.
One fan raged in response to the footage: “I’m sure the families & the kids in that area thought he was hilarious.”
Another said: “Imagine getting kicked out of an #NUFC women’s game for trying to impress his mam and a load of 6 year old lasses.”
The fan attempted to return to his seat after the incident.
But he was quickly cornered by a police officer and led out of the ground.
A record 38,502 fans watched Newcastle edge a close encounter 1-0.
The attendance shattered the previous league best of 15,387, which was set in the reverse fixture between these two sides last October.
Shania Hayles came off the bench to net the winner in front of the Gallowgate.

The win sends the Toon past Sunderland into sixth place in the WSL2.
Hayles said: “I saw an opening and just went for it.
“I just did what I do and put it in the net.”
“It’s the best feeling ever. As a forward you always want to score goals, I’ve always wanted to score here – I think I even dreamed about scoring here so to do it is amazing.
“To see the crowd – see everyone – my family was here as well.
“So for the girls, for the fans, it was just amazing and I couldn’t wish for anything better.”

The 20-year-old shares her mum’s striking beauty, and is no stranger to posting a selfie on her social media channels.
She looks the spitting image of her legendary model mum – plus she also has a very famous dad, film director Matthew Vaughn.
The couple, who tied the knot back in 2002, also share son Caspar, 21, and daughter Cosima, 14.
Filmmaker Matthew 53, has produced a number of hit films including Kick-A**, Layer Cake, Stardust, Argylle and the Kingsman franchise.
Claudia has a huge net worth, and her daughter Clementine won’t be far behind.
Despite having top film producer for a dad, the teen has shunned the spotlight growing up, but last year it was revealed that’s all set to change.
Top brands have been eyeing her up for collaborations and she’s stepping out with her mum to fashion shows across the globe – plus Vogue named her one of their “Darlings” in February last year.
She’s also a talented artist and photographer.
Celebrity brand and culture expert Nick Ede said: “With two very famous parents, the world is Clementine’s oyster and, although she has a relatively small following on social media, her engagement is high and she is loved by brands globally.
“I can see her getting increasingly popular now that she’s decided to be a more public figure.
“With Vogue profiling her, and her father being a top Hollywood producer, I can see her branching into acting, too.
“Expect to see her in the nextGuy Ritchie film very soon, commanding big bucks.”
