A MUM has revealed she’s been branded “desperate” by huffy guys – all for choosing to have a baby without a fella.
Heather McCartney, 36, has longed for a second child and feared it would never happen because she hadn’t met the right guy.
But her motherhood journey turned when she realised she didn’t need to enter a relationship to give her daughter the younger sibling she’s always wanted.
Now she’s expecting after handpicking a donor based on criteria she requested like age, health and other non-negotiables.
Heather, who left Ayrshire for Australia after beating blood cancer and escaping her violent ex-husband, said: “My daughter has been begging for a sibling for years, and I just feel like it’s time to expand the family.
“I’ve always wanted more kids, and the love I have for my daughter makes me want to give her that sibling bond.
“Using a donor felt like the right choice for me to get the family I’ve always wanted, without any of the stress or complications.”
She added: “Relationships can be wonderful, but they can also come with a lot of stress and drama. I’ve had my fill of that, to be honest.
“Going the solo route means I’m in control, and there’s no drama—just me, my daughter, and our future little one.
“It’s definitely easier in a way that I get to decide how things go, without any of the ups and downs that can come with dating.
But the former Maxim model has revealed she’s received some backlash since sharing her baby news.
She told Fabulous: “It’s only the guys getting pissed off about my decision, it’s the men getting defensive and taking the huff.
“In person I’ve had a couple of weird, cheeky comments from people who I thought were okay.
“Guys are going in a huff saying every kid needs a dad when they haven’t grown up with single mothers. Mums can do it all.
“Maybe they’re realised they’re replaceable.”
She adds: “There’s guys who I’ve never given the impression would have a chance with me saying they’d be a donor as well.
“They’re missing the point that I didn’t want to know who the dad was
“I’ve never given the impression that it was a possibility.
“Do they feel that I went that route because I’m desperate? It’s because I don’t want the person around.
“It’s maybe a kind gesture but it’s creepy.”
Despite some of the comments, Heather has zero regrets about her decision.
“It’s the safest option for me to do this and not have anyone in my life”, she insists.
She continues: “I’m not waiting around, I want to start my own clan around here.
“I feel like folk are moving with the times and that more women are supportive because they think it’s good idea and realise they wouldn’t have had as much drama.”
COPS searching for a missing man have found a body in a river near a football stadium in a heartbreaking discovery.
In a post on X, Wigan and Leigh Police said: “Officers searching for missing Darren Orme have sadly located a body in the Stadium Way area of Wigan.

TUBERCULOSIS belongs in history books – but Ireland is still facing a big challenge to erradicate the illness completely.
The contagious bug has been dubbed one of the most deadly infections in the world and it’s still very much present here.
There were a staggering 289 cases of TB reported in Ireland last year, which equates to an incidence rate of 5.6 per 100,000 population.
Today is World Tuberculosis Day – and people are being reminded of the signs and symptoms to watch out for.
The contagious infectious disease is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis and affects millions of people worldwide.
The disease mostly affects the lungs but can also impact other parts of the body – including the kidneys, spine and brain.
TB spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, releasing bacteria that can be inhaled by others.
Although Ireland has seen a major decline in TB incidence over the past few decades, the country still faces challenges in achieving the WHO End TB Strategy target.
And the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has issued an alert on World TB Day.
They said: “The theme of World TB Day 2025 – ‘Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver’, is a bold call for hope, urgency, and accountability.
“World TB Day, observed annually on March 24, amplifies the urgency of ending tuberculosis – once again one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases.”
“TB continues to devastate millions globally, inflicting severe health, social, and economic consequences.
“Although there has been a significant decline in the incidence of TB in Ireland in recent decades, 289 cases were still notified in 2024, equating to an incidence rate of 5.6 per 100,000 population.”
The WHO’s End TB Strategy aims for an 80 per cent reduction in TB cases globally between 2015 and 2030, and Ireland is expected to meet this target with fewer than 139 cases by 2030.
However, Ireland did not meet the 2024 target of 139 cases – as the number of cases reported was more than double this figure.
THERE are seven key signs of the illness to watch out for.
The HSPC added: “As a low-incidence country (<10 cases per 100,000), Ireland should be aiming to achieve the WHO End TB Strategy target of an 80 per cent reduction in TB cases between 2015 and 2030.
“This would have equated to approximately 139 cases being diagnosed in Ireland last year, less than half of what was actually diagnosed.”
In the past decade, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on TB control efforts both globally and in Ireland.
The HSE has since published Ireland’s first National TB Strategy which strives to end the disease nationwide by 2030.
This strategy outlines a collaborative approach to TB control, and brings together various sectors to address TB effectively in the country.
The HSE said that a major focus of the strategy is addressing health inequities and ensuring equitable access to TB care, particularly for vulnerable groups.
In the 1950s, nearly 7,000 TB cases were reported annually in Ireland, but the rate of infection has steadily declined since then.
With an early diagnosis, the disease can be prevented, and appropriate treatment can also cure those with it.
Anyone experiencing TB symptoms should contact their GP immediately.

MICHAEL KING has gone from being homeless and sleeping in A&E waiting rooms to training with two Brit world champions.
The welterweight is currently perfecting his trade under the watchful eye of the much-respected Shane McGuigan.
King regularly trains with world champions Caroline Dubois and Ellie Scotney, as well as surging contender Adim Azim.
But his life was very different just a few years ago when he was left homeless after being sacked for “eating too much” at KFC, where he worked to fund his dream of becoming a world champion.
In an interview with the BBC, he recalled: “I sometimes went back when I didn’t have money and they’d give me free food.
“Maybe I wanted to get fired because I was boxing and working. I couldn’t find a balance.
“When I got told to leave, I thought it was a sign.”
He added: “I couldn’t afford a place and so I stayed in my car.”
Despite his trials and tribulations, King – who grew up in war-torn Congo – was determined not to give up on his dream.
He’d eventually turn pro in 2019, although he’d lose his first two fights.
Those defeats, however, didn’t deter the 27-year-old, who was eventually forced to take numerous bouts in Russia just to remain active.
“I had to go because nobody wanted to face me but I learned a lot,” King said. “It was taking around 30 hours to get there.
“[I was] taking three different flights, and I’d arrive 48 hours before getting in the ring sometimes.
“But again, it taught me to always be ready, always in shape and always in top condition.
“I’m looking to kick on now and get some really big fights. Who knows?
“We might eventually even be able to get one back in Congo, which would be something else.”
Before he’d even set foot in the ring, King’s father was against the idea of him making a living by punching people’s heads in.
But he’s since changed his stance and is immensely proud of his son’s achievements so far.
King said: “I want to change my family’s financial situation.
“Sometimes, we were just eating rice or bread and butter. Being [a] world champion didn’t cross my mind.
“I just saw an opportunity to bring hope to the people who care about me.
“My dad is proud of what I’ve achieved so far.
“When he goes back to Congo, he takes pictures of me to show people and tells them about my story.”
