Iconic city car dubbed an ‘all-rounder’ by Top Gear’s Stig that ‘ticks all the boxes’ could be yours for just £1,300
AN ICONIC “all-rounder” city car that “ticks all the boxes” could be yours for just £1,300.
Former Top Gear Stig Ben Collins listed his best motors for new drivers starting out on the road in a recent YouTube video.

In the clip, he compared a number of budget vehicles, including the Citroen C1 VTi, which he praised heavily.
The motor has a 1.0L engine that pumps out just 72hp, taking 13.6 seconds to get from 0-62mph, but Ben felt the compact vehicle still had “a little bit more punch and pep” than its previous versions.
Inside, he called the vehicle’s design “ergonomically lovely”, adding that everything is in “easy reach”.
Ben said: “Little bit more spacious in the cabin.
“It’s a slightly bigger car – the seats feel roomy.
“Interestingly, the gear lever is slightly closer.”
He also praised how “robust” the C1 is, given its hardened plastic panels.
While he did say the visibility out of the rear was “quite limited”, Ben doubts that it will be an issue for drivers.
He added: “It’s got a good turning circle.
“It’s a really accessible little car.”
The C1 has a top speed of 99mph, helping drivers through motorway travel, and has an NCAP rating of three stars.
Ben also praised the ride quality of the vehicle as well as its suspension for being “smooth”.
He said: “The suspension on this and the ride are also surprisingly smooth.
“I thought this would have quite a cheap ride to it.
“But it’s actually not bad.”
‘I REALLY LIKE THIS CAR’
Ben said the car felt “fun” to drive about, even on bumpy roads, summarising it in one word as “playful”.
He also said that while the car had been criticised for being weak uphill, this wasn’t the case when he tested it.
Ben added: “I really like this car.
“Everything is just where you want it really.
“You’re sitting in a really good spot and you can see everything you want to see really.”
Newer versions of the four-door motor also come with a “handy” reversing camera.
The boot comes with 196L of storage space, which can be expanded up to a whopping 780L by pushing the rear seats down.
It should be noted the C1 is near identical to both the Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo, which were designed in collaboration with each other.
You can grab an older version of the C1 second hand for just £1,390 online.
If you’re looking for one of the newer VTi models, like the one reviewed by Ben, it’s likely to set you back closer to £8,000.

Reece James marks first England start after two and a half years out with injury with Beckham-like goal and MOTM award
REECE JAMES played it cool as he barely celebrated scoring his first ever England goal.
James was given his first start for the national team in two-and-a-half years – or 910 days – against Latvia by the new England boss Thomas Tuchel.

And James repaid the faith of his old Chelsea boss by scoring a sensational free-kick from 25 yards out to break the deadlock, becoming the first defender to score at Wembley from a direct free-kick since Stuart Pearce against Turkey in 1992.
James made no mistake with his effort as he curled the ball over the wall and into the top right corner of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper gawping in disbelief as it hit the back of the net.
However, while many stars may have wheeled off in jubilant celebration, the Chelsea defender simply walked off to the side and did not even threaten to cast a smile.
James was mobbed by team-mates with Declan Rice holding a beaming smile with his hand over his shoulder.
Fans had a mixed reaction to the muted celebration, with one fan saying: “By all standards a great free kick from Reece James And I love his (no) celebration.”
A second said: “That Reece James free kick goal and celebration against Latvia, cold.”
A third joked: “Reece James. Come for the goal, stay for the celebration.”
Another said: “Stunning lack of celebration from Reece James there. We love to see it.”

A fifth said: “Lack of celebration very weird tho…”
A sixth added: “Sorry did Reece James used to play for Latvia? No time for that goal with a celebration like that.”
Roy Keane was also full of praise for the goal at half-time in ITV’s studio, comparing it to David Beckham.
He said: “It was like David Beckham used to do.
“Very difficult to do, to get the angle right, very difficult.”
Harry Kane doubled the scoreline with his 71st England goal in the second half after Rice crossed low across the face of goal for the waiting Bayern Munich ace to tap in at the far post.
James was voted England’s player of the match for his all-round display, in what was just his 18th cap for his country.
His stats show he made 97 passes, and 96 were completed to a team mate.
His career has been undermined by a string of injuries, since his last start for England in September 2022 in a 3-3 draw with Germany.
James much of last season after undergoing hamstring surgery, which was designed to help him overcome a series of injuries.
He has been eased back gently into the Chelsea first team by boss Enzo Maresca since recovering from his most recent hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old later explained his muted reaction to the goal.

Speaking to ITV James said: “It has been a long time, I have had a frustrating two years.
“I’m so happy to be called up by my country again. I saw the wall and felt I could bend it round. I was a bit surprised it hit the net.
“I thought the keeper could have maybe got there but looking at the replay it was probably tough.
“Thomas Tuchel’s ideas are clear. We have one objective and that starts this week right up until the World Cup.”
Tuchel was delighted for James and hopes he can play a big part in his World Cup campaign.
Tuchel said: “I know Reecey and I know the quality that the boy has is amazing.
“He has every right to be proud and happy and satisfied with his performance.”

Bastille frontman Dan Smith tells of hope of working with music superstar as he reveals sessions with Jade Thirlwall

AS the frontman of chart-topping band Bastille, Dan Smith is no stranger to a hit single.
Now he is hoping to team up with Justin Bieber, to work on the Canadian’s comeback after learning he is back in the studio.

He said in an exclusive chat: “I’d love to write with Bieber. In fact, Happier, which is a song I did with a DJ called Masrhmello, was originally written in my mind for Bieber.
“When I was writing that song, I was imagining Justin Bieber singing it. Yeah, so I actually didn’t know that he was writing again. I will reach out and see.”
Happier was a No2 hit in 2018, so more massive chart success could be on the way.
Closer to home, Dan has been in the studio with Brit-winner Jade, but it remains to be seen whether their collaborations will see the light of day.
He explained: “We did write together a while ago, and it was so much fun. I think she’s just one of the funniest and most incredibly talented people I’ve got to work with. She’s brilliant.”
But asked if we would hear it, he said: “I don’t know. I’m not sure what happened to that. I loved working with her, though. We did a bunch of songs.
“It was for something else, it wasn’t actually for either of us. But I’m a big, big Jade fan.”
Dan, who also recently co-wrote Myles Smith’s hit Nice To Meet You, has been taking some time away from Bastille and teased his tunes could soon be popping up on the big screen.
He said: “I’ve been working on a load of different projects — music projects, film and TV projects, and in slightly different creative worlds that I’m not really in a state to talk about yet.
“But I’ve been busier than ever, and really taking advantage of us not being on the road.”
In good news for their fans, Bastille will be back in November for their From All Sides arena tour, which celebrates songs from the first 15 years of their career.
When I told him I could barely believe they’ve been together for 15 years, he said: “Dude, it’s insane. It doesn’t feel like 15 years at all.
“It’s very surreal that it’s been that long. But it’s been really great, hanging out, the four of us, and planning the tour and thinking about what we can play.
“It’s going to be really liberating to get to just dip into anywhere and every- where that we want to.
“The idea we have been around 15 years, but that we’re still able to play these rooms, is amazing and such a privilege.”
Pre-sale tickets are available tomorrow ahead of general sale on Friday.
‘We keep prices as low as possible’
But news of their tour comes amid a huge discussion about fans being ripped off by touts selling fake tickets and vastly inflating prices.
Dan has teamed up with O2 to urge concert-goers to have their say on the future of live music as part of the Government’s consultation on the re-sale of live event tickets, which closes on April 4.
He is also backing a new online hub at stampittout.co.uk, where you can get advice about buying gig tickets without having to pay over the odds.
Dan said: “I’ve seen online such a large amount of times, people complaining about getting ripped off. It’s often just so frustrating to feel helpless in that situation.
“Fans get ripped off and pay way more than they need to for tickets, and sometimes part with their money to not have a ticket at all.
“We like to keep our prices as low as possible, just so that the tours can be inclusive and as many people as possible can come.”
Ireland has already got legislation in place to stop fans getting ripped off.
Now it’s time for the UK to follow suit…
Bastille’s Dan Smith has teamed up with O2 to urge music fans to have their say on the future of live music and launch Stamp It Tout (www.stampittout.co.uk).
The new online hub is designed to help music fans buy gig tickets without being ripped off by touts, and to encourage them to take part in the UK government’s consultation on the resale of live events tickets.
The consultation is open until April 4th.
