Jamie Laing and Spencer Matthews’ bitter rivalry exposed as friendship torn apart over ‘affair’ and unforgivable error

THEY once had the biggest bromance on reality TV, starting when they were just 15.

Spencer Matthews and Jamie Laing, now both 36,  shared their highs and lows on Made In Chelsea – winning over a legion of fans.

The pals first met when they were just 15[/caption]

Their success as a duo led to a number of money-spinning ventures including a hugely successful award-winning podcast.

But fast forward a few years and the pair are no longer friends.

The divide between them was never more obvious than last week when Jamie took part in an epic marathon challenge that saw him running 150 miles over five days – just months after Spencer completed his own running feat for charity

Jamie – who is now a Radio 1 star – was supported by not only the nation, but also his celebrity pals during the excruciating trial.

Spencer completed 30 marathons in 30 days[/caption]

Spencer however was nowhere to be seen and, after speculation from fans, posted a very simple and somewhat blunt message of support.

It was in stark contrast to the post shared by Jamie when Spencer embarked on his own challenge – running  30 marathons in 30 days across the Jordanian desert.

Spencer wrote: “Great display of determination and resilience. Congratulations on a phenomenal fundraise for such an admirable cause.”

Jamie raised an incredible £2m, while Spencer made just over £500k for his cause.

Tension between the pair was hinted at just a few months before the challenge, when Jamie’s good mate Jack Whitehall appeared on his podcast and made a series of comments regarding their competitive relationship.

Jack told Jamie he would never be able to complete something like Spencer had and joked about how furious Spencer would be if Jamie did better than him.

He said: “It would be the end of the friendship if you just came out tomorrow and go, ‘I’m going to do 31 in the desert’ although you would probably keel over after the first.”

While he said it as a joke, the comment is said to be very close to the truth of their relationship now.

And only months later Jamie DID announce his own running challenge – did Jack’s words spur him on?

Our insider said: “It’s not gone unnoticed that shortly after Jack was winding him up that Jamie decided to take on Spencer- and with the backing on Radio 1, he managed to turn it into a huge spectacle and success.”

Interestingly, when we quizzed Jamie about if Spencer had been helping him train or if he had turned to him for advice, Jamie was evasive.

He diverted the question and revealed he had been chatting to Russell Cook, Britain’s self-styled Hardest Geezer, instead.

WEDDING MISTAKE

Spencer was the best man at Jamie’s second wedding

This wasn’t the start of slyness between them, but it has left fans wondering if they will ever be able to get back on track?

Our insider continued: “The first signs of trouble between the pair were the mix up over Jamie’s wedding.

“It was a huge oversight and Spencer really struggled to recover from it, it felt like betrayal.”

Back in in 2023, Spencer openly said how ‘p***ed’ off he was about what happened and his wife Vogue admitted she had never seen him so upset.

Spencer missed Jamie’s London wedding and was on holiday in Portugal at the time.

He explained what happened on the podcast he did with Vogue at the time, saying:  “I’m being hammered for ‘snubbing’ my best friend’s wedding to go on holiday, and then posting about my holiday. I’m not here to b***h about my best friend but there’s been some serious miscommunication from him.

“I just want to set the record straight, more than anything. I’m not here to whinge. I was not invited to this part of Jamie’s wedding, and neither was Vogue.”

Jamie later addressed what happened, saying:  “I f***ed up. We had our wedding, our civil ceremony in the UK. It was a hectic process.

“Amongst the hectic-ness of getting people there and things like that, I thought Spencer and Vogue were away.

“Spencer got upset – which is fair enough. So I sent Vogue a message hoping to get a bit of support and then she replied, ‘To be honest Jamie, it’s not good.’ And I was like “f***.”

PODCAST MYSTERY

Spencer has been vocal about the change of direction in his life[/caption]

The men tried to put what happened behind them but last year they decided to suddenly pull the plug on their podcast.

The pair had launched 6 Degrees from Jamie and Spencer in 2020, which saw them try to track down celebrities in six calls or less.

The news of the podcast ending blindsided fans who felt it came out of the blue and with little explanation.

It was reported that Vogue was the one who pushed Spencer to quit their joint venture.

An insider said: “Vogue has been concerned about Spencer’s friendship with Jamie. She saw how upset he was when he was snubbed from the wedding and she felt it wasn’t healthy for her husband.”

But could Vogue’s dislike of Jamie be about more than that? Was she so put out by the first snub that she refused to attend the second bash?

Spencer with wife Vogue – who is said to have pulled the plug on the his podcast with Jamie[/caption]

The final nail in the coffin came just two months after the London wedding fiasco when Spencer was accused of ‘hooking up’ with Lottie Moss at Jamie’s wedding in Spain, which Vogue did not attend.

The reality TV star, who previously admitted he quit booze for the sake of his marriage, attended the bash alone as Vogue claimed she had messed up her diary and had a work commitment in Dublin.

The claims about Spencer and Kate Moss’ little sister went viral, with speculation rife about what had really happened during the wild wedding party.

Lottie was forced to speak out about what actually had happened and denied anything had gone on, telling us: “Spencer’s a great guy.

“We partied together but there was nothing more to it.”

Spencer later went on to quit the podcast he did with wife Vogue and has been focusing more and more on his own ventures.

The source explained: “Spencer is really moving away from celebrity stuff – he is much more concerned with ‘human potential’.

“Jamie is now a huge star on Radio 1, they are very much on different paths, despite having so much in common on the surface.”

And as Jamie crossed the finish line last week, he was hailed a hero by the public – the perfect anecdote to toxic masculinity and Andrew Tate thanks to showing his vulnerability throughout.

But Spencer was nowhere to be seen – the once alpha male of Chelsea has been surpassed by Jamie, who has gone from being his cheeky sidekick to a household name.

The source added: “It doesn’t look like they will cross again any time soon.”

Andy Farrell to raid staff of Ireland’s Six Nations rival in shock move as he finalises Lions coaching ticket

ENGLAND No 2 Richard Wigglesworth is a shock contender to be on Andy Farrell’s Lions coaching team in Australia — along with Simon Easterby.

The former scrum-half, 41, is Steve Borthwick’s right-hand man and runs the English attack which put ten tries past Wales in the Six Nations.

The same cannot be said, however, for Richard Wigglesworth[/caption]

Ireland boss Farrell will name his coaches tomorrow and has known Wigglesworth since their time at Saracens when Faz was starting out as a coach — and they were in contact after England’s drubbing of the Welsh.

Easterby, who stood in for Farrell to lead Ireland during the Six Nations, is also expected to be on board with fellow Irish backroom members John Fogarty and Andy Goodman tipped for jobs.

Paul O’Connell is set to then be the latest interim head coach for Ireland’s summer Tests against Georgia in Tbilisi and then Portugal, a clash that most likely will be in Lisbon.

Last week, former Ireland star Tommy Bowe questioned Farrell’s decision to step away from Ireland duty to focus on the Lions Tour.

He took a back seat throughout the championship, leaving defence coach Simon Easterby to serve as interim head coach.

His absence has sparked criticism in some quarters — with Bowe among those expressing concern over the move.

Speaking on The Offload podcast, Bowe said he couldn’t understand why Farrell had to step away from a live Test window to prepare for what is ultimately a six-week summer series.

He bemoaned: “If Ireland were potentially to win that Six Nations — and I’m not saying they definitely would have with Andy Farrell there — but I definitely think there would have been a difference.

“That’s €5 million potentially left on the table just so the head coach can go off, scout around, see the teams, and plot what he’s going to do for the Lions tour.”

Bowe insisted that he’s a huge fan of both Farrell and the Lions, but didn’t see why Ireland’s Six Nations campaign had to be sacrificed.

The ex-Ulster winger added: “I’m an absolutely massive fan of the Lions.

“But I do not get why the head coach has to step away from the Six Nations so that he can coach a six-week tour in the summer.”

His podcast co-host and former Ireland teammate Donncha O’Callaghan defended Farrell’s decision, insisting the Lions must remain one of rugby’s top honours.

Bowe, however, challenged the former Munster lock’s view by questioning the precedent set by Warren Gatland during his time with Wales.

He concluded: “Who decides this? – Ian McGeechan was the coach before Gatland and he didn’t coach a national team. We’re only doing what Gatland did.

“He [Farrell] would’ve been watching all the games anyway.

“The Lions is a huge tour, a huge opportunity, but at the same time it’s three Tests and, what, six warm-up matches?”

Farrell is expected to name his Lions squad in early May with as many as eight Irish players to form the spine of the Lions’ starting XV.

The 2025 Lions Tour will begin with a match against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium in June, before the team departs for Australia where they will play nine fixtures.

The series concludes with three Tests against a Wallabies side now coached by previous Ireland boss Joe Schmidt.

When do the clocks go forward? Everything workers need to know, including whether they work an hour for free

HOUSEHOLDS across the country will lose an hour of kip as the clocks spring forward in the early hours of Sunday morning.

British Summer Time (BST) begins at 1am on March 30 when the time automatically skips an hour to 2am.

When the clocks go forward, the UK moves from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to Daylight Saving Time.

This change gives more daylight in the evenings but initially comes with darker mornings.

There are rules surrounding working hours during the clock change which should clarify your rights.

Will I have to work an hour later?

If you usually work a night shift until 8am, for example, you’d work a shorter shift than usual unless you did an extra hour on that shift until 9am.

But what exactly is expected will depend on how your employment contract is worded.

For example, if it says you have to work specific times, such as 12am to 8am, you will likely have a shorter shift than usual.

However, if it states the number of hours you should work, for example, an eight-hour shift, you may have to finish an hour later.

Will I get paid for the lost hour?

If you’re among those who work nights, whether you’ll receive pay for an hour your didn’t work typically depends on how you are paid.

If you’re paid by the hour, you’re unlikely to get paid for the hour that vanished between 1-2am.

However, if you are salaried or paid a day rate, you could find that your employer pay you the same amount as usual even though you put in a shorter shift.

Bear in mind if your contract says you have to work between certain hours and you are paid for hours worked, the employer doesn’t have to pay for the extra hour when clocks go back in October.

Why do the clocks change?

A year after Willett’s death, in 1916, Germany became the first country to adopt daylight saving time.

The UK did the same a few weeks later, along with other nations involved in the First World War.

British Double Summer Time was temporarily introduced during the Second World War, with clocks kept one hour in advance of Greenwich Mean Time to increase productivity.

Since the war, Britain has operated under British Summer Time except for between 1968 and 1971 when the clocks went forward but were not put back

What are night workers’ rights?

You are entitled to certain rights if you work night shifts, as per the Working Time Regulations.

You are classed as a night worker if you work at least three hours through the night, usually between 11pm and 6am.

If you do night work, you should not have to work more than eight hours in a 24-hour period. This is usually calculated over a 17-week period.

Regular overtime is included in this average, and workers cannot opt out of this limit.

Because of the health impacts of night time working, your employer must offer you a free health assessment regularly.

You also have a right to breaks.

You are allowed at least one uninterrupted 20-minute break if your shift is longer than six hours.

You must also have at least 11 consecutive hours’ rest in any 24-hour period and one day off each week or two consecutive days off in a fortnight.

I tried out a new way to get cheap groceries delivered that would usually go to waste – I even got FREE Heinz beans

An image collage containing 2 images, Image 1 shows Grocery delivery person handing over a paper bag of groceries, Image 2 shows Heinz Beanz can in hand

WHEN I saw a new food bargain feature flash up on my most-used deals app, Too Good to Go, I immediately had to try it out.

I love using the app to grab bags of leftovers from local restaurants and shops including Pret, Greggs and Costa Coffee

Heinz Beanz can in hand.
A couple of the packs were dented

But now you can order boxes of store cupboard food and drinks that brands like Heinz, Fanta, Tony’s Chocolonely and Nature Valley can’t sell in shops.

The products are either wrongly labelled, have imperfect packaging, or are close to, or past, their best-before date.

Rather than chucking the products away, it’s packaged up into a Too Good To Go parcel and some of the prices are half the recommended retail price.

There were lots of offers I liked, including J20 drinks and Lee Kum Kee Chinese sauces.

The app had 24 500ml Fanta Zero Fruit Twists for £19.99, compared with £1.80 each for individual bottles or £18 for a pack of 12 at supermarkets

There was a £25 parcel of posh brand Tony’s Chocolonely, which included 38 bars of 35g and 20g sea salt chocolate bars.

But with three kids who love something on toast for their after-school snack, I opted for the Beans Lover Parcel.

The listing promised at least 16 beans products from Heinz.

Unlike the usual pick-up options on Too Good to Go, I had an idea of what I’d receive.

The listing said it would include five full-size 415g tins of baked beans and baked beans with vegan sausages, and 12 mini 200g tins, including plain Heinz Beanz, the no-added sugar version, one with pork sausages and one in tomato sauce, plus “other surprises”.

The listing added that the tins’ best before dates would be from December 31, 2024, to February 28, 2025, explaining: “The best before date is a guide to food quality only.

“This product should still be great to consume for at least three months beyond this date. Always remember to look, smell, taste!”

The price was listed at £12.99 – and it claimed the value of the whole package was £27.

I was disappointed to see an extra postage fee added, though.

I ended up paying £14.97 for the Beans Lover Parcel.

Ordering on a Sunday morning, I was told delivery would be three to five business days.

My Too Good to Go parcel arrived in a big cardboard box the following Friday via a local courier service.

Opening it up, I found much more than what was listed – in total, I had 22 tins of baked beans.

That was made up of:

  • Two four-packs of mini 200g beans tins
  • One six-pack of mini 200g tins
  • Seven individual 200g mini tins – 5 x no added sugar, 1x tomato sauce, 1x pork sausage
  • Four 415g tins (three baked beans with vegan sausages, and one baked beans in tomato sauce)

Half of the beans’ best-before dates were February 2025, when they arrived, and half were in January 2025.

Two of the tins had dents in them.

But when we opened them up, they were the same colour, shape and taste that we expected.

The kids loved our beans on toast snacks after school.

But when I compared the price with buying the same beans at the supermarket, I wasn’t overly impressed.

I found the same amount of beans would cost £19.87 at Asda – and have two years left before their best-before date, while the cost at Tesco was £20.50.

That meant just a £4.90 saving – and I had a lot of tiny tins to squash into my cupboard, where normally I’d go for bigger tins for the whole family and have less wasted packaging.

Overall the savings didn’t seem worth it.

If you’re happy with own-brand beans then you would end up paying more than if you shopped at the supermarket.

Plus, there was the problem of finding space for 22 tins of beans in my kitchen.

The company does point out that the majority of food in Too Good To Go parcels is “ambient food”  – meaning it can safely be stored at room temperature and doesn’t need to be eaten right away.

It says: “Your food may be coming up to its ‘best before’ date – however, [this is] a quality indicator, not a safety indicator. Many products are perfectly good to eat even after that date, if stored properly.”

It also advises shoppers: “Build your shopping list around your parcel: if you received rice, pasta or another dish in the making, allow that to inspire your shopping list.

“Share with friends, family, coworkers and neighbours: if you get more shelf-stable food than you are sure what to do with, share it with those around you.

“Meal prep from rescued food: rescue a Surprise Bag and a Too Good To Go Parcel and build your meal plan for the week from what you receive.”

How to save money on your food shop

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save hundreds of pounds a year:

Odd boxes – plenty of retailers offer slightly misshapen fruit and veg or surplus food at a discounted price.

Lidl sells five kilos of fruit and veg for just £1.50 through its Waste Not scheme while Aldi shoppers can get Too Good to Go bags which contain £10 worth of all kinds of products for £3.30.

Sainsbury’s also sells £2 “Taste Me, Don’t Waste Me” fruit and veg boxes to help shoppers reduced food waste and save cash.

Food waste apps – food waste apps work by helping shops, cafes, restaurants and other businesses shift stock that is due to go out of date and passing it on to members of the public.

Some of the most notable ones include Too Good to Go and Olio.

Too Good to Go’s app is free to sign up to and is used by millions of people across the UK, letting users buy food at a discount.

Olio works similarly, except users can collect both food and other household items for free from neighbours and businesses.

Yellow sticker bargains – yellow sticker bargains, sometimes orange and red in certain supermarkets, are a great way of getting food on the cheap.

But what time to head out to get the best deals varies depending on the retailer. You can see the best times for each supermarket here.

Super cheap bargains – sign up to bargain hunter Facebook groups like Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK where shoppers regularly post hauls they’ve found on the cheap, including food finds.

“Downshift” – you will almost always save money going for a supermarket’s own-brand economy lines rather than premium brands.

The move to lower-tier ranges, also known as “downshifting” and hailed by consumer expert Martin Lewis, could save you hundreds of pounds a year on your food shop.

Red Bull F1 team descend into chaos just two races into season as driver facing axe fumes over potential replacement

RED BULL have descended into chaos again just two races into the new season.

Liam Lawson, who joined the team this season, could be axed already at the next Grand Prix in Japan and replaced by Yuki Tsunoda.

Max Verstappen is targeting a fifth successive F1 title[/caption]

The Kiwi driver, 23, has suffered a woeful start to the 2025 campaign.

He was knocked out at the first stage of all three qualifying sessions and has also failed to pick up a single point.

Lawson is way behind his teammate Max Verstappen in terms of race pace, with the Dutchman second in the driver’s standings, eight points behind Lando Norris.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has not ruled out an early-season swap, with Tsunoda impressing for the sister team Racing Bulls.

When Tsunoda was asked about a swap, he said: “Yeah, 100 per cent. The car is faster, I’m sure.”

The next race is in Japan (4-6 April) and is Tsunoda’s home grand prix.

But a fuming Lawson hit back, saying: “He can say whatever he wants.

“I’ve raced him for years, raced him in the junior categories and beat him.

“If I look back over our career, I was team-mates with him in F3 and I beat him.

“In Euro Formula, I was team-mates with him in New Zealand, and I beat him there.

“And then in F1 last season, I think honestly, if I look at all the times he got promoted instead of me in those early years, then no.

“He’s had his time. Now it’s my time.”

Sergio Perez and Alex Albon found before Lawson that driving a car tailored to four-time world champion Verstappen is no easy ride.

Red Bull chose to promote Lawson from their junior squad Racing Bulls after just 11 Grand Prix appearances in two short spells across 2023 and 2024, despite Tsunoda having more experience.

Team advisor Helmut Marko claimed that a meeting had been scheduled for next week to discuss the situation, but Horner said “nothing specific” had been set up.

He added: “Liam still has got potential, we’re just not realising that at the moment.

“The problem for him is, he’s had a couple of really tough weekends, he’s got all the media on his back.

“The pressure just naturally grows in this business, and I feel very sorry for him.

“You can see it’s very tough on him at the moment.”

Illustration of 2025 F1 driver salaries, ranked by annual salary.

Horner will be feeling the pressure to deliver this season given Red Bull’s chaotic campaign last year, where the team was rocked by his ‘sexting’ scandal.

He was accused by a female colleague of “inappropriate behaviour” but was twice cleared by an independent investigation.

There was then a string of high-profile exits, including legendary designer Adrian Newey and sporting director Jonathan Wheatley.

They also missed out on the Constructor’s title with Perez finishing a whopping 285 points behind Verstappen before he was axed for Lawson.

But it seems history is repeating itself.
