Irn-Bru makers to discontinue popular drinks brand as manufacturing site in Scotland faces axe & dozens of jobs cut

IRN-BRU makers are set to discontinue one of its popular brands as one of its manufacturing sites in Scotland faces the axe.

A.G. Barr has today announced plans to discontinue its bottled water brand, Strathmore, by January 2026.

The drinks firm has announced plans to discontinue its Strathmore water

The drinks firm is looking to simplify its structure and boost profits by the end of the fiscal year.

It said the water brand had struggled to keep up with its competitors over recent years.

But the discontinuation of Strathmore could see the closure of the company’s manufacturing facility in Forfar, Angus.

In turn, this would lead to 23 roles becoming redundant.

The Cumbernauld-headquartered company said it had reached a point where the site is “no longer sustainable”.

These proposals will, however, be subject to a consultation.

It comes after the Scots fizzy drink makers shut down its Moston, Wednesbury and Dagenham operations down south last year in a bid to integrate its energy drink brand Boost with its soft drink segment.

A spokesperson from AG Barr said: “We have announced a proposal with our Strathmore Water colleagues in Forfar which could see the closure of the site and 23 roles becoming redundant.

“The Strathmore brand has struggled to compete in recent years, and we believe we have now reached a point where the Forfar site is no longer sustainable.

“The proposals are subject to consultation, and we intend to fully support our employees through this period of change.”

‘I was terrified, I cried my eyes out’ says Jack Fincham as he breaks silence on trolling after dangerous dog conviction

LOVE Island star Jack Fincham has today revealed for the first time how he received terrifying death threats over his Cane Corso dog that left him feeling “abused” and “terrified”.

In an exclusive interview, the reality TV star, who won an appeal against a prison sentence for two dangerous dog offences on Friday, has spoken out saying: “There were people wanting both me and him dead.

“I was terrified at times, it wouldn’t stop. I was told I was scum.”

Today Jack reveals how Elvis, five, is back home with him and girlfriend Chloe Brockett but says he nearly reached breaking point after his pet was seized.

The dog bit a runner in 2022 and then “mauled” a woman last year. Elvis was seized and Jack admitted being in charge of a dangerously out-of-of control dog at Southend Magistrates.

He was sentenced to jail because the dog offence triggered a suspended sentence for drug driving.

He appealed and last week won with the judge saying the original sentence had never been “just in the circumstances”.

Yesterday – after eight months in police kennels – Elvis returned to his home in Essex.

Jack says: “He is, he’s a big softie.  I feel like a kid on Christmas morning, I’ve got my best friend back.

I’ve been told I am scum, the worst person in the world

Jack Fincham

“He needed a good wash, his fur isn’t quite as shiny but apart from that he is fine.

“The man who dropped him off said everyone at the kennels had fallen in love with him and came to say goodbye.

“I can’t thank the police and the kennels enough for the way they’ve treated him. I was worried his temperament would change but he’s just Elvis again.

“Sitting next to me, loving and lovely. It feels amazing to have him here.”

But he fights back emotion discussing the eight months apart.

Jack, 33, says: “I have had so much abuse.  But what has really hurt is the abuse that my dog has got. The guilt I have felt for what has happened is horrendous. I do only have myself to blame.

“The judge said on Friday that it’s never the fault of the dog, it’s always the owner’s fault and that is so true.

“Elvis was outside our home on our drive during both incidents, he was protecting his territory.  It’s my fault what happened to him. I will never let that happen again.

“The first time, with the runner. I said, ‘Sorry,’ he said, ‘OK’ and that was that.

“The second time he actually didn’t touch the woman and the police came round and said it was all ok.  Nobody was mauled. Elvis came back as soon as I called him.

“The police were ok.  But then I think they went away, looked at my record, realised who I was and everything changed.

“If I hadn’t been Jack Fincham off Love Island I don’t think my dog would even have been reported for what he did.”

Within hours of Elvis being seized the tirade of online messages began.

He says: “One of the worst was from a lady at the Cane Corso Club of Great Britain saying I’d let the entire breed down and I was a disgrace. I was devastated, it was quite nasty saying, ‘You’ve cocked things up for the Cane Corso. Just what we needed’.

“I hated thinking I’d done that. So I spoke to her and explained that I was a good owner who loved Elvis.”

It is unsurprising that Jack – down to earth and straight talking – charmed her after explaining himself.

Now he says: “We chat regularly, and she has even invited me to a dog show.

“But other people won’t listen to me.  Some want me dead or behind bars, and said my dog should be put down, that he’s a nasty, vicious horrible dog. It’s ridiculous, his best friend is a sausage dog.

“I’ve been told I am scum, the worst person in the world.

“I get really upset. There were messages every single day from faceless social media accounts.”

Jack, who won Love Island in 2018 with ex partner Dani Dyer, says the past eight months have been a “living hell” but he has been supported throughout by partner Chloe, 24.

He says: “Attacking me for Love Island, for taking drugs, for my boxing ability, for the way I look, comes with the territory. You can’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

“But dogs are my passion so scrutinising me as a dog owner is the worst. It has been horrific, I’ve cried my eyes out.

“I would not have been able to live with myself if he’d not come home, knowing it was my fault.”

In January, presiding Southend Magistrate Anne Wade activated Jack’s driving jail sentence and jailed him.  He instantly appealed which meant he didn’t go to prison.

When he went to Basildon Crown Court on Friday he faced being jailed if that appeal failed.

Three months was added to the unrelated suspended sentence imposed in 2023 after he was caught speeding in a BMW on a hard shoulder while on cocaine.

But it was ruled that Elvis could come home.

A contingent destruction order, under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, is now in place. Elvis will be put to sleep if the court order – with specific conditions – is broken.

Jack says: “I will do all I can to keep him safe now. He will remain on a lead in public and I will muzzle him too. He will need to be muzzle trained, but, despite what people assume, I am very experienced, I know what I am doing

“I didn’t realise just how much losing that dog would hurt.

“He was always there – through rows, drugs, addictions.  I would sit and chat to him, which is ridiculous to say out loud, but he wasn’t just my dog, he was my best friend.  We always slept together, I’ve missed him so much.

“For eight months it felt like my life was on hold without him.

“To know I let him down is horrific.”

Even as a kid Jack says was dog-obsessed and hoped to become a vet.

He laughs: “I’d dress up as a Dalmatian and pretend to be a dog. The outfit was for a three-year-old but I was wearing it until I was about nine!  I’ve had six rescue dogs.”

Jack is now preparing for the future.

Love Island star Jack Fincham's legal battles

Jack has had numerous run-ins with the law since 2021 when he was arrested for drug-driving.

In 2023 he was convicted of the same charge and said it was the wake-up call he needed.

Jack told how he was at rock bottom when he was pulled over by cops for a second time.

Later that year he was handed a 36-month driving ban and given 60 hours’ community service.

Jack volunteered in a charity shop as part of his sentence.

However, in February 2024 he was pulled over again and charged with driving after taking cocaine.

He also faced charges of careless driving, having no insurance and using false number plates.

Jack was spared jail after speeding his £50,000 car down the hard shoulder of the A2 in Kent.

In January, 2025 he was jailed for six weeks after he admitted being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog.

Cane Corso Elvis first attacked runner Robert in Swanley, Kent, in September 2022.

He is then said to have mauled an unnamed woman in Grays, Essex, in June 2024 but no harm was done.

Jack was freed on bail while he appealed the sentence which he successfully overturned.

On his first day home Jack and Chloe made Elvis his favourite tea.

Jack bursts with pride as he says: “Raw beef mince. And we are getting him a new bed and new toys.

“When they took him away they took his favourite toy which was one of my old slippers, I’ve got some new ones now and am wearing them so they smell of me for him.”

Jack is looking forward to the future. He is fighting fit again and recently returned to the boxing ring. He now hopes to return to TV roles.

Laughing he says: “I did panto once and Elvis would sit backstage.  Everyone loved him.

“I would love to take him to work with me again.

“Me and my dog together. Just being able to say that again after so long apart makes me feel happier than I have in such a long time.”

I looked Maddie suspect Christian Brueckner in the eyes in court and discovered haunting reason he should NEVER be free

TO the world he is notorious as the prime suspect over the abduction of Madeleine McCann.

But after sitting in court and watching him for six months during his trial I can tell you – our fears should not stop there.

Christian Brueckner, 48, is already a convicted rapist and a paedophile.

Psychiatrists say he is a clear danger to society. Such monsters will never change.

That is why our news now that he could be freed within days or weeks carries such gravity. The world needs to understand we face a very real race against time to keep him behind bars.

Two police cars were needed to escort his high-speed convoy in and out of court for every day of his trial with their lights and sirens blaring.

Tall, gaunt, seemingly unmoved by the occasion. His pock-marked face barely moved as he faced a barrage of claims of appalling rapes and sex crimes as they were put to him in Germany.

Yet between evidence Christian B still found it within him to arrogantly wink at his lawyers – to fist-bump – and even to smirk.

As the trial worked to appraise whether he played a part in the torturous crimes he was complaining to his legal team of not getting enough filling in his prison sandwiches.

For me, that told you everything you needed to know about his attitude. He acted like he didn’t care – like he wasn’t capable of caring about the trial. The indifferent look on his face made it seem like he could have been waiting for a bus.

But it worked for him. He remained silent – and he was cleared.

Perhaps his apparent indifference shouldn’t come as a surprise.

We know he was abused as a child – and became a paedophile while he was still a teenager.

We know he is a narcissist who it appears only puts his own pleasure and fulfilment first – no matter the often appalling cost to others.

Here are some of the facts the psychiatrist who assessed Christian B at his trial last year quoted to the court.

Dr Christian Riedemann said the German paedophile was a psychopath in the top “1% of abnormal”.

He said Christian B refused to engage with psychiatrists at any time behind bars – but he was still said: “He is one of the absolute top dangerous people.”

Whatever happens – Christian B must not be allowed to walk free. That would surely spell disaster for the McCann case

Chillingly the psychiatrist added: “A new victim is to be expected soon.”

So we know this man poses an immediate threat to society. And police believe he is the only way to unlock the mysteries of Madeleine’s disappearance and find justice for her.

Yet, somehow, he is on the path to freedom. Potentially not now in months, as we had feared – but in days or weeks. Our exclusive story shows just how fragile his incarceration is.

A court must reject his lawyers’ pleas for an early release. If they do not an appeal must be allowed to hold him behind bars.

The prosecution say he must be brought back to court for a retrial on the matters he was cleared of last year.

And if all that fails – only one option remains. Prosecutors MUST be ready to charge him over the disappearance of Madeleine.

That could get them a new arrest warrant – and give them time to find the missing evidence they want to take him to court.

Whatever happens – Christian B must not be allowed to walk free. That would surely spell disaster for the McCann case.

His own lawyers have already hinted he would leave Germany once back on the streets. And if he vanishes – all hopes of justice for Maddie will surely vanish.

After 17 years of purgatory for the McCann family – that cannot be allowed to happen.

Virgin Media launches brand new channel weeks after sad closure – and some customers can watch it for free

VIRGIN Media customers will have access to a brand new sports channel – and it’s a UK first.

The firm is adding a dedicated 24/7 rugby channel to boxes across the country.

Premier Sports Rugby launches on channel number 553[/caption]

It will show events including the Investec Champions Cup, EPCR Challenge Cup, the United Rugby Championship and some of the biggest games from the TOP14.

Two live games from every round of the topflight Japanese Rugby League One competition will be broadcast on the channel too, as well as the best games from the Major League Rugby competition in the United States.

The channel is called Premier Sports Rugby.

And it’ll be available at no extra cost to existing Premier Sports subscribers.

For those who don’t already subscribe to the channel, it costs £15.99 a month for Premier Sports.

Here’s the full list of channels with Premier Sports Rugby now added:

  • Premier Sports 1 – channel 551
  • Premier Sports 2 – channel 552
  • Premier Sports Rugby – channel 553 (new)

“The expansion of our Premier Sports offering to include the brand-new 24/7 rugby channel, demonstrates our commitment to further enhancing our sports offering and providing something for all of our customers to enjoy,” said David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2.

“From football and rugby to hockey and motorsport, we’ve got sports fans covered.”

The move comes weeks after the sad closure of Eurosport, which ended in the UK after 35 years.

Virgin Media continues to fill its channel offering with streamed options.

FAST channels – free ad-supported TV – relies on an internet connection instead of the traditional cable connection.

Virgin Media now has more than 30 of these channels.

Bosses recently revealed that as many as 50 could be included on boxes for free in future.

The offering does change from time-to-time.

Just last week, The Sun exclusively revealed that the Tastemade channel will disappear from boxes at the end of the month.

Future of TV channels

Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun

The announcement of a new channel is welcome relief to telly fans following a number of high profile closures.

But more channels could disappear in future.

BBC announced in 2022 that CBBC and BBC Four would disappear as traditional linear channels in a few years and go digital only via iPlayer.

However, the pair may have had a bit of a reprieve for now, after the BBC’s head of children’s programmes, Patricia Hildago, recently said “it’s really important… that if children still need us on a linear network, we’re going to be there for them”.

When Channel 4 announced the closure of The Box and other music channels it owned in January, the broadcaster hinted that more could come.

At the time the company said it was proposing to “close small linear channels that no longer deliver revenues or public value at scale, including the Box channels in 2024 and others at the right time”.

So which could the “others” be? It really depends what Channel 4 considers “small” but its other channels include More4, E4, E4 Extra, Film4 and 4Seven.

I’m a mum-of-2 & begging strangers to fund furniture for my council house – as we’re finally getting a bigger place

A MOTHER living in emergency accommodation has begun begging strangers on the internet to help her buy furniture.

Vicky, a mum-of-two from the UK is currently living in temporary accommodation, but is hoping to be re-homed in a few weeks time.

The content creator, who has two daughters, Penelope and Phoenix, both of whom are under the age of three, expressed her hopes to be moved into a council property, but voiced her concerns at her lack of furniture.

Posting online, the 25-year-old shared a short clip asking strangers for help, leaving many open-mouthed.

The short video was captioned ‘TikTok at this point I’m coming to you guys, if you see this please interact’, to which Vicky then said: “I really need your help and I’m talking to every single person that comes across this video.”

Vicky explained that she, her partner, their two kids and his teenage son are all living in one room in emergency accommodation.

She admitted: “We haven’t got the money to private rent, not even close and also, we’re only here for a maximum of six weeks and we’re currently halfway through, then we get moved on to temporary housing, which I’ve just learnt is probably gonna be unfurnished.

“We desperately need to save up some money so we can furnish this place – of course, we have got our stuff in storage, but that’s just not enough because we were in a one bedroom flat and where they could be putting us is a lot bigger.”

Vicky, who has amassed 54,800 followers on TikTok, claimed that she isn’t used to having a living room, so buying furniture is “gonna be really hard.”

As a result, she requested: “So if you can please interact on this video to push it out – TikTok is an amazing app and people do earn a lot of money on here.”

The blonde beauty then confirmed that she gets paid 40p per 1,000 views on the video sharing app, through the platform’s Creator Fund.

According to the TikTok official website, the Creator Fund “gives TikTok’s best and brightest the opportunity to earn money with their creative talent.”

While it is not a grant or ad revenue program, the Creator Fund provides payment to qualified TikTokers based on a “variety of factors” across their content.

The website continued: “We want all creators to have the opportunity to earn money doing what they love and turn their passion into a livelihood.”

Let’s see how good TikTok can actually be for people, especially people that really, desperately need it, like me and my family

Vicky

With no limit on the number of qualified TikTokers who can join the fund, payments may increase or decrease at different times throughout one’s run on the platform.

As a result, Vicky asked viewers to “push out” her video by “pressing all the buttons.”

What is the TikTok Creator Fund?

While it is not a grant or ad revenue program, the Creator Fund provides payment to qualified TikTokers based on a “variety of factors” across their content.

“We want all creators to have the opportunity to earn money doing what they love and turn their passion into a livelihood,” the website continues.

With no limit on the number of qualified TikTokers who can join the fund, payments may increase or decrease at different times throughout one’s run on the platform.

Some factors affecting the funds a qualified TikToker may earn include number of authentic views per video, the amount of engagement, and whether or not the work falls within the Community Guidelines.

She shared: “Let’s see how good TikTok can actually be for people, especially people that really, desperately need it, like me and my family.”

Social media users react

The social media clip, which was posted under the username @mumto2littlepeas, has clearly left many totally stunned, as it has quickly racked up 94,800 views.

With viewers keen to engage with Vicky’s clip, it’s no surprise that it’s also amassed 15,800 likes, 2,583 comments and 1,934 saves.

Emergency Council Accomodation

In England, emergency council accommodation is provided to individuals or families who find themselves homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. The process typically involves several steps, and the specifics can vary depending on the local council. However, the general process is as follows:

  1. If you are homeless or at risk of homelessness, you should contact your local council’s housing department as soon as possible. Most councils have dedicated housing options or homelessness prevention teams., The council will conduct an initial assessment to determine your situation. This usually involves an interview where you will need to provide information about your circumstances, including why you are homeless, your housing history, and any specific needs you may have.
  2. The council will check if you are eligible for assistance. This includes verifying your immigration status and whether you have a local connection to the area, e.g., living, working, or having family in the area.
  3. The council will determine if you have a ‘priority need’ for housing. Priority need categories typically include:, Families with dependent children., Pregnant women., Individuals who are vulnerable due to age, physical or mental health conditions, or other special reasons., People made homeless by emergencies such as fire or flood.
  4. If you are deemed to have a priority need, the council must provide you with temporary accommodation while they investigate your case further. This is often referred to as interim or emergency accommodation. This could be in a hostel, bed and breakfast, or other types of temporary housing.

Another added: “Commenting to help.”

A third commented: “Fill this jar with hearts.”

Whilst someone else chimed in: “Wishing you the best.”

Mel C drops biggest hint yet Spice Girls will reunite for 30th anniversary with cryptic comments about ‘world tour’

SPICE Girls star Mel C has dropped the biggest hint yet that the iconic girl group are set to reunite next year.

The band – completed by Emma Bunton, Mel B, Geri Horner and Victoria Beckham, – have been cemented in music history as one of the biggest pop groups of all time, with fans continually eager to see them back on screen.

Now, with their debut single, Wannabe, turning 30 next year, it seems like the band might finally be in agreement.

Speaking on Australia’s 2Day FM, Mel C told the Jimmy and Nath Show, Mel spoke about the monumental anniversary, and the girls’ potential plans.

“It’s 30 years next year since the release of Wannabe. We have to do something special,” she explained to the radio DJs.

“Obviously I can’t say too much but we are talking about things. Hopefully a nice little world tour!”

Some members of the band have made no secret of their desire to bring the girls back together and head out on the road again.

Most notably is ‘Scary’ Spice Mel B, who has made multiple public comments about reuniting the group.

Last year, she even hinted there was a feud with the girls who were holding out, branding them “d***heads” on Nevermind The Buzzcocks for kicking her out the WhatsApp group after pushing the subject.

Speaking to Gabby Logan on Magic FM earlier this month, Mel B shared hopes there could finally be some progress.

She said: “I get so excited on stage with my girls, I end up running round the whole stage, I kind of lose myself.”

When asked directly if the band will reunite, she said: “I’m hoping so. You know me, I’m always saying ‘yeah we’re going on tour tomorrow’.”

The last time all five girls performed together was at the London 2012 Olympics Games closing ceremony – with Victoria not taking part on the 2019 tour across UK and Ireland.

They were also all seen together for Victoria’s birthday last year – even singing for the intimate crowd of party-goers at the exclusive London event.

Performing their routine to hit single Stop, Victoria’s husband David was front row to catch on camera the moment the five girls got together, singing and dancing along.
