Lidl is selling a £1.99 dupe that smells ‘exactly’ like Lush’s sold-out £8.50 shower gel just in time for Mother’s Day

LIDL fans are in a frenzy after spotting a £1.49 shower gel dupe, with shoppers stating it smells “exactly” like an £8.50 Lush buy.

With Mother’s Day now just around the corner, many of us are on the hunt for the perfect gift to show our mums how much we appreciate them.

Bath and shower products are a great idea for treating your mum to a little self care, but brands such as Lush can often be a bit on the pricey side.

Thankfully, eagle-eyed Lidl fans have spotted that the budget supermarket is selling products very similar to Lush’s popular shower gel, but at a fraction of the price.

Sharing a snap of her local Lidl store, one bargain lover posted in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group: “Lush dupe in Lidl.”

The image showed a selection of bottles of Lavish shower gel, with a sign indicating that the product is scanning for the bargain price of £1.99.

Both the Relax lavender scented gel and the Dizzy Rose rose scented gel are featured in the image, but shoppers in the comments section pointed out that a variety of other scents are also on offer.

One shopper said: “The winter fairy one is amazing.

“It smells just like Snow Fairy.”

A second person said: “I’ve got the honey one at home. It’s so nice.”

A third person said: “I used the Relax one yesterday, it smells amazing.”

A fourth chimed in: “These are so good and a fraction of the price.

“Really good duplicate.”

The Lavish shower gels are similar to Lush’s shower gel range, including the £8.50 Passion shower gel.

This product is made from red rose petals “for a passionate, floral scent that also soothes and tones.”

However, the Lush product is currently sold out online, so you will have to check your local store if you want to grab it in time for Mother’s Day.

Why do Aldi and Lidl have such fast checkouts

IF you’ve ever shopped in Aldi or Lidl then you’ll probably have experienced its ultra-fast checkout staff.

Aldi’s speedy reputation is no mistake, in fact, the supermarket claims that its tills are 40 per cent quicker than rivals.

It’s all part of Aldi’s plan to be as efficient as possible – and this, the budget shop claims, helps keep costs low for shoppers.

Efficient barcodes on packaging means staff are able to scan items as quickly as possible, with the majority of products having multiple barcodes to speed up the process.

It also uses “shelf-ready” packaging which keeps costs low when it comes to replenishing stock.

Lush Prices

Beauty fans have been raging about Lush’s “mental” prices, following the launch of it’s new Easter range.

Included in the new range is the Easter Bunny bath bomb, which is priced at £10.

The 240g bath bomb is made from lemon, bergamot and grapefruit oils and promises to bring “juicy freshness”, to your bath.

However, the bath bomb is only a one time use product, which has led some shoppers to deem it far too expensive.

Also included in the collection is the Eggs on Legs bath bomb, which is the shape of an egg cup, and is priced at £12.

One shopper, clearly impressed by the range, recently shared a picture of some of the products to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.

Captioning the post, she said: “Easter has arrived at Lush!” alongside a heart eyes emoji.

The post soon grabbed the attention of Facebook group members and racked up hundreds of comments.

One person said: “I love Lush but the prices are getting absolutely mental

“I mean £10-13 for a bath bomb that you use once, wow.”

A second person said: “Who is paying a tenner for a bath bomb.”

A third added: “I can see them being the next ones off the high street with those prices.”

Where is the Celebrity Big Brother 2025 house?

CELEBRITY Big Brother is back for 2025, with a fresh batch of housemates shacked up together in a brand new house.

In December 2024, The Sun exclusively revealed that the location of the famous house was making a major move.

It’s the second time the famous house has moved since 2023[/caption]

Where is the Celebrity Big Brother 2025 house?

Big Brother was originally based in Bow, East London, before it moved to Elstree, Borehamwood in 2002 — where it remained until its demolition in 2018.

When ITV brought back Big Brother in 2023, they moved the famous house to Garden Studios, which was a newly-built studio in West London.

However, the Big Brother compound was later rebuilt in a new London location for its celebrity series in Spring 2025.

A source said: “ITV has made the decision to leave Garden Studios, which has been its home in a sound stage since its return.

“It’s been a bit of a shock to crew working on the show, given they only moved in last year and it’s a five minute walk from Harlesden Tube station, which is super accessible for staff and fans coming down to the live shows.

“There have been previous disturbances at the studio during filming, such as revellers sailing down the adjacent canal and members of the public flying drones over the garden.

“Plans were considered to move the show back to its former home at Elstree Studios, but ultimately that’s been decided against.

“Bovingdon Airfield Studios, which is where Dancing On Ice is filmed, was also on the table, but execs have picked a new location in London.”

How long do contestants stay in Celebrity Big Brother house?

If the housemates go the distance, they have the potential to be in the CBB house for around 19 days — this is how long the 2024 series lasted.

Of course this means they have to survive not being evicted by the public.

Celebrity Big Brother kicks off on April 7, 2025.

And while the show’s end date is yet to be officially announced, the final will likely take place on or around April 25.

What are the Celebrity Big Brother house rules?

Just like the civilian Big Brother series, the celebrities must adhere to strict house rules.

The show is known for being a stickler for the rules, and any broken usually results in a “punishment” of some sorts.

The rules are:

  • No contact with the outside world while they are in the house. The housemates also aren’t allowed to make attempts to communicate personal messages to their loved ones.
  • Housemates are filmed 24 hours a day and must wear their personal microphones at all times.
  • The celebrities must visit the Diary Room everyday.
  • Housemates must take part in nominations and always give a valid reason for their nomination – they are also banned from discussing their choice with their other housemates.
  • They must take part in all of the shopping tasks that Big Brother set them.
  • Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Who has won Celebrity Big Brother?

THE first Celebrity Big Brother aired in March 2001 on Channel 4.

Roll on 23 years and a switch to Channel 5 in 2011, CBB is now into its 23rd season and is being hosted for the first time by ITV.

Here’s who has won the coveted title so far:

Season 1 (2001): Comedian Jack Dee beat actress Claire Sweeney despite walking out of the house and evading security for about an hour. The series was also more memorable for Vanessa Feltz telling Big Brother to “f*** off” after chalking “incarcerated”, “ambushed” and “restricted” on the table.

Season 2 (2002): Take That favourite Mark Owen triumphed over TV host Les Dennis. The latter won over the sympathy of the audience after his marriage breakdown with his wife Amanda Holden.

Season 3 (2005): Maraca shaking Bez walked out the winner ahead of Blazin’ Squad‘s Kenzie. The Happy Mondays star scooped the £50,000 and went on a 10-hour bender, blowing the cash.

Season 4 (2006): This was the season when Big Brother mixed things up – by sending in a non-celebrity from the fictional band Kandy Floss. However, Chantelle Houghton won over viewers and housemates alike and was crowned the winner. During her time in the house she found love with Ordinary Boys singer Preston. There was also added drama when George Galloway pretended to be Rula Lenska‘s pet cat

Season 5 (2007): Actress Shilpa Shetty won after being caught up in a racism bullying row with former BB contestant Jade Goody, model Danielle Lloyd, and S Club’s Jo O’Meara

Season 6 (2009): Ulrika Jonsson beat Terry Christian, but controversy came in the form of rapper Coolio who was slammed by viewers as misogynistic, however, he finished in third spot.

Season 7 (2010): Alex Reid beat Dane Bowers and Vinnie Jones with a huge 65% of the vote. Alex married Katie Price one month later.

Season 8 (2011): In the first series to air on Channel 5, Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty was the unexpected winner, beating singer Kerry Katona.

Season 9 (2012): Loose Women star Denise Welch triumphed over X Factor contestant Frankie Cocozza, after stripping off while drunk and jumping into the hot tub topless.

Season 10 (2012): Comedian Julian Clary got the nod in the vote over Coleen Nolan.

Season 11 (2013): The X Factor’s Rylan Clark beat couple Heidi Montag
Spencer Pratt, who was competing as “one entity” and known as Speidi.

Season 12 (2013): Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby beat 5ive singer Abz Love

Season 13 (2014): Jim Davidson won after a blazing row with Linda Nolan. N-dubz Dappy took the second spot.

Season 14 (2014): Gary Busey – who chose to roam around the CBB house naked – beatboxer Audley Harrison.

Season 15 (2015): Katie Price won the battle of the Katies as she saw off controversial Katie Hopkins in the final. The biggest talking point was American blogger Perez Hilton‘s raging row with Calum Best, but the series also saw two early ejections of Jeremy Jackson and Ken Morley.

Season 16 (2015): Apprentice star James Hill beat model Austin Armacost. Tila Tequila was evicted on just the second day after she was found to have posted support for Adolf Hitler on social media.

Season 17 (2016): Geordie Shore’s Scotty T won after sharing a kiss with fellow housemate Tiffany Pollard. Stephanie Davis was runner-up.

Season 18 (2016): Stephen Bear won the show despite a huge row with radio star James Whale. Ricky Norwood placed second but this season saw Christopher Biggins ejected from the house after making an anti-Semitic joke.

Season 19 (2017): Coleen Nolan entered the CBB house for a second time – and this time came out the winner beating Jedward. During her second stint, she had a massive showdown with horse star John McCririck.

Season 20 (2017): It was the battle of the reality show singers in the final, with  Popstars: The Rivals winner and Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding beating The X Factor’s Amelia Lily.

Season 21 (2018): Courtney Act, otherwise known as Shane Jenek, won with politician Ann Widdecombe as runner-up.

Season 22 (2018): Winning Dancing On Ice in 2024, was not Ryan Thomas‘s first reality show title. He won the CBB title in 2018, after a shocking “run-in” with Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallet, who falsely accused him of punching her. Actress Kirstie Alley came second.

Bakery giant with over 2,600 branches across the UK to shut store for good in DAYS

A BAKERY giant with over 2,600 UK branches is set to close one of its locations in days.

The popular pastry and sandwich chain is shuttering the store in Cambridge on March 31.

Greggs is closing a Cambridge store at the end of the month[/caption]

The Greggs store on Fitzroy Street will close with staff relocated to nearby branches where possible.

Shoppers next nearest branch is in Station Square just over a mile away.

News of the closure has been met with devastation from customers.

Posting on Facebook, one said: “I nearly cried at reading the news that the Grafton Greggs is closing.”

Another, tagging a friend, commented: “Actually what do we do during exams lad.”

Meanwhile a third simply added: “It’s over.”

The Cambridge store is not the first Greggs branch to shut this year.

A location in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, closed for good in January.

The shop closed due to a dispute over rent, according to local news reports.

Meanwhile, a Greggs shop on Foleshill Road, Coventry, shut its doors for the final time at the start of the year.

It is by no means all bad news at Greggs though, as the bakery chain is eyeing up major expansion plans.

The chain, which currently runs just over 2,600 stores, is set to open between 140 and 150 shops this year.

Boss Roisin Currie said the chain would forge forward with the plans despite cost pressures.

She said in January: “There are still places where you cannot access Greggs. We are confident in the continuing growth of Greggs.”

Ms Currie added that while “consumer confidence has fallen, disposable income has actually improved so I think we will see an improvement when consumer confidence improves”.

The comments came as Greggs celebrated more than £2billion of sales in 2024 for the first time, an 11.3% increase on the previous year’s £1.8 billion.

Meanwhile, the firm opened 226 shops in 2024.

HIGH STREET STRUGGLES

Greggs may have tasted success in recent years, but the high street has struggled more broadly as the trend towards online shopping continues.

The most recent data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows online retail sales increased from 5% of all retail sales in 2008 to 27% in 2022.

Shoppers have also been feeling the pinch in recent years following high inflation which has dented wallets and purses.

A House of Lords report published last year admitted the dominance of retail on high streets was “something of the past”.

It said there was a greater demand for restaurants and leisure activities, as well as public services, such as health centres and libraries, in town centres.

Why are retailers closing shops?

EMPTY shops have become an eyesore on many British high streets and are often symbolic of a town centre’s decline.

The Sun’s business editor Ashley Armstrong explains why so many retailers are shutting their doors.

In many cases, retailers are shutting stores because they are no longer the money-makers they once were because of the rise of online shopping.

Falling store sales and rising staff costs have made it even more expensive for shops to stay open.

The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury’s hike to employer NICs from April 2025, will cost the retail sector £2.3billion.

At the same time, the minimum wage will rise to £12.21 an hour from April, and the minimum wage for people aged 18-20 will rise to £10 an hour, an increase of £1.40.

In some cases, retailers are shutting a store and reopening a new shop at the other end of a high street to reflect how a town has changed.

The problem is that when a big shop closes, footfall falls across the local high street, which puts more shops at risk of closing.

Retail parks are increasingly popular with shoppers, who want to be able to get easy, free parking at a time when local councils have hiked parking charges in towns.

Many retailers including Next and Marks & Spencer have been shutting stores on the high street and taking bigger stores in better-performing retail parks instead.

In some cases, stores have been shut when a retailer goes bust, as in the case of Carpetright, Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, Paperchase, Ted Baker, The Body Shop, Topshop and Wilko to name a few.

What’s increasingly common is when a chain goes bust a rival retailer or private equity firm snaps up the intellectual property rights so they can own the brand and sell it online.

They may go on to open a handful of stores if there is customer demand, but there are rarely ever as many stores or in the same places.

The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year.

The Centre for Retail Research’s latest analysis suggests 13,479 stores, the equivalent of 37 each day, shut for good in 2024.

Of those, 11,341 were independent shops while 2,138 were shut by larger retailers.

A higher number of closures is expected this year too, with the centre predicting store closures to rise to about 17,350 in 2025.

It said it expects closures to surge due to the April rise in National Insurance Contributions (NICs) and national minimum wage.

Santander to slash opening hours in HALF at 36 high street branches after revealing plans to close 95 for good

SANTANDER is set to drastically slash opening hours at 36 of its high street branches, The Sun can reveal.

This move comes as part of a broader restructuring, which also includes the closure of 95 branches and the conversion of 18 to “counter-free” service desks.

Santander bank sign.
It comes as part of a huge shake-up announced earlier this month
PA

Currently, most of these branches are open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3pm, with many also open Saturday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Going forward, these branches will be open only three days a week.

Of the affected locations, 21 branches will adopt a Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday timetable.

These include branches in Bicester, Braintree, Durham, and Stevenage.

This means that, from June 30, these branches will open just three days a week – instead of six.

An additional 14 branches will adopt a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday timetable, opening from 9.30am to 3pm on these days.

Branches affected by this change include Banbury, Great Yarmouth, Newark, and Washington.

Meanwhile, the final branch on the list, located in Caerphilly, will see its hours cut further, from every week day to just Tuesdays and Thursdays, with opening hours from 9.30am to 3pm.

Our map above reveals exactly which branches are reducing their hours and which days they’ll be open from the end of June.

The bank says the changes are due to changing customer behaviour and a significant increase in digital transactions as the reason for the changes.

A spokesperson for Santander UK, said: “As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future.

“Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside Work Cafés, counter-free branches and reduced hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.

“As a business, we must move with customers and balance our investment across all the places where we interact with customers, to deliver the very best for them now and in the future.”

The bank, which serves over 14million UK customers, announced earlier this month that it plans to close 95 branches across the UK.

Following the shake-up, just 349 branches will remain on the high street.

What you can do if your local bank is set to close

There are still a number of ways people can access basic banking services without having to venture to another town with a branch.

You can use one of the Post Office’s 11,684 branches to perform basic banking tasks — but not to open new bank accounts or take personal loans and mortgages.

You can find your nearest Post Office branch by visiting postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder.

Meanwhile, many banks offer a mobile banking service – where they bring a bus to your area offering services you can usually get at a physical branch.

Other banks use buildings such as village halls or libraries to offer mobile banking services.

It’s worth contacting your bank to see what mobile services they have available, and when they might next be in your area.

New super ATMs are being rolled out across the UK where branch closures have left residents unable to access essential banking services.

These ATMs will allow customers to withdraw funds, access their balance, change PIN numbers and deposit cash.

Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank are already signed up to allow deposits, at the super ATMs.

Banking hubs are also being opened across the UK with 250 set to be available by the end of 2025.

These sites typically feature a counter service operated by the Post Office as standard, enabling customers to conduct routine banking transactions conveniently.

Each hub also has a private area where customers can consult with staff representing their banks for more complex matters.

What services do banking hubs offer?

BANKING hubs offer a range of services to bridge the gap left by the closure of local branches.

Operated by the Post Office, these hubs allow customers to perform routine transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and balance enquiries.

Each hub also features private booths where customers can discuss more complex banking matters with staff from their respective banks.

Staff from different banks are available on a rotational basis, ensuring that customers have access to a wide range of banking services throughout the week.

Additionally, customers can receive advice and support on various financial products and services, including loans, mortgages, and savings accounts.

Girl, 10, died from head injuries after BMW smashed through fence on to pitch as she played football, inquest told

A SCHOOLGIRL died from head injuries after she was struck by a car while playing football, an inquest heard.

Poppy Atkinson, ten, was taking part in a training session at Kendal Rugby Club in Cumbria when the horror unfolded.

An inquest heard today how the youngster was declared dead by paramedics at the scene shortly after the collision.

A post-mortem was later carried out with a provisional cause of death given as head injuries.

The promising young footballer’s parents, Ben and Clare did not attend the brief hearing at Cumbria Coroner’s Court.

Kirsty Gomersal, acting senior coroner for Cumbria, passed her “deepest condolences” on to the family.

She adjourned the inquest until a date to be fixed while a police investigation continues.

The tragedy unfolded on March 5 after a black BMW i4 crashed through a perimeter fence separating the pitches at the sport club.

An eight-year-old girl was also injured in the horror crash.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has been released under investigation.

Cumbria Constabulary previously said the collision was not thought to be a deliberate act.

Football-mad Poppy played for Morecambe Girls and Kendal United’s U12 girls team, who described her as “our much loved player”.

Tributes also flooded in from Lionessess Georgia Stanway and Ella Toone.

She dreamed of one day playing for Man Utd and idolised players Ella and Kobbie Mainoo.

The club said: “On behalf of Ella, Kobbie and everyone at Manchester United, we send our heartfelt condolences to Poppy’s family and friends for their devastating loss.

“Rest in peace Poppy.”

Poppy was laid to rest yesterday in an emotional service in Kendal Parish Church.

Her coffin featured a poignant motif of Old Trafford painted in a field of poppies.

Poppy’s devastated family previously said: “Poppy was the focal point of our lives, everything for us revolved around Poppy’s love for football.

“Poppy touched so many lives, it was easy to see why, her energy, character, spirit and passion for football was infectious and touched huge numbers of people.

“Poppy was 100% determined to be a professional footballer. Many who know her, and who know her determination to improve and win, had no doubt she would achieve her goal to one day to play for Manchester United.

“Poppy was sister to seven-year-old Edward. Edward worshipped the ground Poppy walked on, he only ever wanted to be like her. Poppy would coach and support Edward with his football, it was so beautiful to see.

“The hole in our lives and so many around us that Poppy leaves is enormous, we will never be whole again.

“This world has lost a spirit like no other, she was a force of nature. She was so special, she was too good for this world.”

Bride labelled ‘new Bonnie Blue’ after FLASHING husband’s groomsmen on her wedding day & boasting ‘if you wanna, do it’

A BRIDE has found herself labelled the “new Bonnie Blue” after outrageously flashing her knickers to her husband’s groomsmen on her wedding day.

Nina Lingstroem, from Germany, caused controversy worldwide after sharing a video of the shocking moment on social media.

She didn’t seem to mind the controversy she’d caused as she boasted in another TikTok “if you wanna do a flashing, do it”

In the clip, which she has since deleted, she was seen pulling apart her wedding dress to show her knickers beneath.

Her new husband laughed at his wife’s act, while several of the groomsmen looked uncomfortable.

Nina appeared unconcerned about the response to her attention-grabbing moment, as she giggled hysterically.

It wasn’t the only time she hit headlines during her nuptials either, as another video showed her once again pulling apart her dress – placing her bouquet in front of herself in an attempt to conceal her underwear.

And despite deleting her video, Nina addressed the scandal in another clip.

In the TikTok, she walked along hand-in-hand with her husband as they sported their wedding day finery.

“POV: you’re the smiling and happy bride,” she wrote over the top of her video.

She added in the caption: “Smile as much as you can on your wedding day.

“And if you wanna do a flashing, do it!”

But in the comments of the TikTok, people didn’t hold back as they slammed Nina for her flashing act.

“Congratulations on your wedding Bonnie Blue!!” one wrote – referring to the OnlyFans star who has hit headlines for allegedly breaking the record for sleeping with the most men in one day.

“Picked a real ‘winner’,” another added, sarcastically.

“He must be so proud,” a third wrote, alongside a rolling eye emoji.

And when someone called her flashing “hilarious”, another hit back: “Nothing’s hilarious about nearly flashing you cooch to you unsuspecting group of friends.

“But to each to their own.”

However, others insisted Nina’s wedding day act was more than a little funny.

Average cost of a wedding in 2025

Recent research by Hodge reveals the dream of getting married can come with a hefty price tag, reaching more than £20,000.

  • Food – £6,000
  • Honeymoon – £4,329
  • Wedding outfits – £3,500
  • Entertainment – £2,000
  • Engagement ring – £1,948
  • Flowers – £1,110
  • Wedding ring – £1,000
  • Wedding transport – £700

Total = £20,587

“I don’t know why everyone’s so mad, lol it’s not that deep,” one wrote.

“I loved the flashing honesty! I love free women!” another added, to which Nina responded with a heart eyes emoji.

“Modesty = not flashing coochie? The bar is truly in hell,” someone else replied to the remark.

“Yes she’s having fun!” the commenter hit back.

“I love it who cares if you don’t? Have a bad day!”
