Roy Keane’s daughter ‘mourned what life might be’ after being diagnosed with incurable illness but dad ‘lightened mood’

ROY KEANE’S daughter Caragh revealed she was left in tears after an incurable illness forced her to turn down her dream job.

The 29-year-old was diagnosed with lupus in 2021 when she was only 25.

It came after a prolonged spell of debilitating symptoms including joint pain, alopecia and painful blisters on her face and body.

Such was the degree of it that Keane – who had qualified to be a teacher – was left bed-bound by the condition.

It meant turning down the chance at her “dream job” at her old school in Manchester.

She admitted to the Irish Independent: “I cried on the phone because I had to turn down the job and just had to say, ‘I’m really sorry, but I’m really not very well at the moment.’

“I wanted to be the best teacher I could be.”

After undergoing some tests, she was diagnosed with lupus: a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the body’s tissues.

Now that she knew what was going on, Caragh could go about addressing it and no longer living in mystery.

Keane added: “Being so poorly ended up being a blessing in disguise because I was able to get the diagnosis really quickly.

“There was a bit of a mourning period for me, when you start to think about how your life might turn out.

“I suppose there was a sense of relief because, with that information, I could start looking into the next steps.

“At the age of 25, you’re sat there being told everything and you’re thinking, ‘I’m never going to have a boyfriend. I’ve not had children yet.’

“That was the sort of thing that was going through my head.”

Fortunately, she was surrounded by a loving and caring support network.

She is one of four kids – alongside sisters Alanna, Shannon and Leah, and brother Aidan – raised by Man Utd and Ireland legend Roy Keane and wife Theresa Doyle.

And while the Keane kids were often kept out of the limelight in their formative years, Roy was never shy of giving them his full attention.

This proved particularly useful when Caragh was diagnosed with lupus, as she revealed how his sense of humour helped lighten the load.

She revealed: “My parents were worried, but they put on a brave face a lot of the time, and they’ve been so supportive.

“My dad puts things into perspective and always adds that bit of humour to lighten the mood.”

Caragh Keane has parlayed her own healthcare experience into founding her own company – Superkeen Foods.

With the brand’s award-winning cereal and products, which are gluten-free, nut-free, milk-free, egg-free, 100% natural and autoimmune protocol-friendly, Caragh hopes to help others with lupus on their healing journeys.

However Dale Mehmet has found love on the outside and has revealed his relationship on social media.

He can been seen posing in several loved-up snaps with girlfriend Darcy, including some taken from a recent trip to the ski slopes in Bulgaria.

During his time in the villa Dale coupled up with Chloe Burrows and Abi Rawlings, but was dumped solo on day 42.

And it wasn’t long before he was back to the day job and focused on barbering instead of pursuing fame.

Two years after his Love Island stint Scottish Dale opend up his own barbers in Glasgow.

He said at the time: “Previously I worked for myself in a small studio so this was my next step.

“I went away and enjoyed myself for the last two years but I always said the thing that would get me back to Glasgow was to open a barbers where I came from, in the east end.”

And Dale insisted he didn’t regret his reality TV experience as it opened a lot of doors for him.

He continued: “I moved away to Manchester after I came off the show and got a lot of job opportunities and I’m still doing those, but I missed cutting hair and the people.

“Modelling is very good and I still enjoy doing it but I missed the one-to-ones with my customers – and I’m a great barber.

“If the show is on I watch it, but it’s not the be all and end of all of my nights.

“It’s a good show, it’s fun and I took a lot off of it. It was a great experience – I’m not one of these people who think badly of my experience but I’m just too busy doing other things now.”

Huge racing change as ‘pointless’ rule is finally scrapped meaning horses no longer have to run to win a race

A HUGE change to racing’s rules mean a horse no longer has to actually run to win a race.

BHA bosses have taken a fresh look at the longstanding “walk over” rule after Yealand’s “victory” at Haydock earlier this month.

https://twitter.com/RacingTV/status/1902368418176627006

Jockey Sean Quinlan punched the air ironically as the Jennie Candlish-trained runner trotted over the line after two other rivals were withdrawn.

Under the old conditions, Yealand still had to actually canter past the winning post for the race result to stand.

That meant Quinlan only had to guide the horse a few yards down the track to claim the £8,000 prize.

But now, if a horse is the only one remaining in a race, they will automatically be declared the winner without the need to take to the track.

A BHA statement issued on Monday said: “In the rare event of a walk over, the remaining horse in the race will no longer need to be ridden across the finish line to be declared the winner.

“This change is designed to reduce the overall impact of a walk over and remove the additional requirements placed on participants.”

Dan Skelton was fuming at Exeter earlier this season when he was forced to withdraw one of his horses and fellow trainer Sue Gardner pulled hers from a race.

That meant Paul Nicholls’ Captain Teague was the benefit of a walk over, winning £40,00 for merely trotting past the post.

Punters have lashed out at walk overs in the past.

In the event of a walk over, their stake is returned even though they may have, officially, backed the winner of the “race”.

Some of the comments after Quinlan’s ride on Yealand called the situation “dismal” and “embarrassing”.

And the jockey himself is glad the rule has changed.

He told the Racing Post: “There’s no point in a horse going out there if he’s the only one and things should just be kept as simple as possible

“It saves time, fuss and stops everyone complaining. And if it means a horse doesn’t have to travel to the races just to walkover, that’s a good thing.

“The same goes for a rider who has just that one ride on the day.”
