Ex-SPFL star huckled into police van by four cops after drunken bust-up with wife and pals
EX-Hibs, Dundee United and Stoke striker Allan Smart has been ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to the police officers he grappled with as they struggled to arrest him.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that there was a fracas in their friend’s home which involved his own wife kicking him before Smart manhandled Susan Wright.

Mrs Wright’s husband John then reacted by “rugby tackling” the burly 17-stone former striker and pinning him to the floor of their family kitchen.
After he was allowed to stand up, Smart stormed out of the couple’s home before returning and hitting their front window so hard he smashed it.
The Wrights described how they locked Mrs Smart in their home for her own safety, while Smart paced around outside yelling: “F****** come out here now!”
Sheriff Gregor Murray halted the trial briefly to tell Mrs Smart the court could offer her protection if she felt she was unable to tell the truth because she was in an abusive relationship. He also warned Smart to stop staring at a witness as they gave evidence.
Mr Wright told the trial that Smart hurled his insurance underwriter wife Leigh, 50, to the ground the day before celebrating their first wedding anniversary. Mr Wright said he then intervened as Smart tried to punch Mrs Wright in the face.
Mr Wright said he used his own face to prevent the blow reaching his wife and Smart’s forearm connected with his cheek. He said he then grabbed Smart by the clothing and spun him round to drag him to the ground.
He said: “He was being really aggressive and calling his wife names. I said stop speaking to Leigh like that. He was saying nasty things to her.
“She tried to swing a kick at him. He grabbed her by the head and turned her head sideways. He turned her head and threw her on the ground.
“He threw a punch at my wife, which I intercepted with my face. She was trying to stop it. I was a bit dazed for a second. That’s when he grabbed Susan and threw her to the ground.
“That’s when I grabbed him and threw him to the floor. Leigh was hysterical, shouting at me to get off him. I let him get up. He threw a miniature bottle and it smashed.
“He was punching and kicking the door and the living room window. There was no way I was letting her out in the state he was in.
“He went mental and started fighting with the two police officers that came up and they were rolling about on the ground. Another two came, so there was four of them rolling about with him.”
The trial heard that Smart broke a double-glazed window and smashed glass around the door by hurling a small bottle of wine at it.
The walls were spattered with red wine when police arrived and found raging Smart outside.
Mrs Smart denied her husband attacked her and told the court she had gently kicked him because she wanted to signal it was time to leave after an hour at the Wrights.
Sheriff Murray praised Mr Wright’s evidence, but said there were so many inconsistencies among the other witnesses evidence that he had to find Smart not guilty of assaulting his wife and the Wrights within the house.
However, he found him guilty of smashing the window at 16 Fettercairn Drive in Broughty Ferry on 8 June last year, but admonished him after hearing the Smarts paid to replace the broken window.
Smart, 50, Nimrod Street, Broughty Ferry, was also found guilty of struggling with PCs Kenny Petrie, Mark Reid, Darren Halley and Euan Ramsay to try and avoid arrest. He was ordered to pay each officer £250 compensation.
Sheriff Murray said: “My impression is that this was a bunch of drunk people and things went spectacularly wrong in a spectacularly short period of time.”
The retired policeman’s son has a history of violence and disorder, including attacking a barman, causing £3,049 damage to hotel doors and headbutting a fan during Oldham Athletic’s Christmas Party in 2001.
In March 2002 he was arrested for assaulting a police officer in a brawl outside a police station. He subsequently pled guilty to affray, damaging property and assault with intent to resist arrest and was ordered to pay a £2,350 in compensation and costs.
In March 2017, Smart pled guilty to a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Swindon Crown Court after he bit off the earlobe of a friend in April the previous year. He was ordered to pay a fine of £1,500 and do 300 hours of community work.
Smart spent 16 years playing as a striker for a number of professional clubs including Caledonian Thistle, Preston North End, Watford, Oldham, Crewe and Milton Keynes Dons.
He scored in the Play-Off Final to help get Watford promoted to the Premier League, and quit as manager of Daventry Town in 2015 to take over the role of chairman.

Premier League TV fixtures released including match that could see Liverpool win title at bitter rivals
THE Premier League have confirmed their latest round of TV fixtures.
Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea is among the matches to be moved for broadcast purposes, with the potentially crucial match now set to take place on Sunday, 4 May – kicking off at 4:30pm.

The Reds are currently 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Should they remain more than nine ahead of Arsenal going into the match at Stamford Bridge, Arne Slot’s side could win the title against the Blues.
This would see the Gunners likely feel obliged to give them a guard of honour when they travel to Anfield the following weekend.

Stunning 63,000-capacity stadium to be built for Olympics in controversial move that has sparked outrage
A BRAND new 63,000-seat stadium is going to be built in Brisbane ahead of the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics in Brisbane.
The un-named multi-sport arena will be built in Victoria Park area of Brisbane and will play host to the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2032 Games.

The new stadium will also host the athletics during the games, before being converted into Brisbane’s home for cricket following the conclusion of the 2032 Olympics.
When converted into a cricket ground, the stadium will replace the iconic Gabba stadium – which has hosted test cricket in Brisbane since 1931.
Initial plans from 2021 had announced the Gabba would receive a £1billion renovation to be the main stadium for the Olympic Games, but the project has since been scrapped.
Instead, the Gabba will be demolished following the end of the Games – sparking outrage and a public apology from Queensland Premier David Crisafulli.
Crisafulli, who had previously made numerous pledges to not build a new stadium, said this week: “I have to own that, and I will. I am sorry, it’s my decision, and I accept that decision.”
Speaking about the planned demolition of Gabba stadium, the Australian politician said: “Wouldn’t it be amazing to see the Australian cricket team win gold at an Olympic final? The Gabba’s swansong.
“The Gabba is at its end of life. It hasn’t been well maintained, and we do need a stadium to host this great show, and there is an opportunity for legacy play.”
The decision has reportedly sparked protests by locals, with the Gabba holding “cultural significance” to the aboriginal people of Queensland, according to ABC reporter Arianna Levy.

The plans announced by the Queensland government also include a new 25,000-seater national aquatic centre and another 20,000-seat arena near the athlete’s village.
There will also be upgrades to the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson, which will include a new 3,000-seat show court arena and 12 new match courts.
While rowing at the 2032 Olympics is set to take place in CROCODILE-INFESTED waters.
The Fitzroy River in Rockhampton, Queensland – which is known to host giant saltwater crocs – is expected to be the location for rowing events at the Games.
Rockhampton’s Fitzroy River, which is 630km north of Brisbane, is a regular sight for crocs, with rangers trapping a four-metre crocodile lurking upstream just two years ago.
Liberal politicians and business leaders have argued using the river for the Games would save the state “millions of dollars”.
President of Fitzroy Rowing Club Sarah Black believes the river could host Olympic rowing events safely, despite the croc risk.
She said: “The Fitzroy is a natural habitat for crocodiles, we’re well aware of that.
“Some of the reports in the media have been sensationalised, with comments around it being crocodile infested.
“We certainly have regular liaisons with our department of environment here. Their officers go out and do regular surveys.
“It is risk managed and something our sport does quite well.”

Jacqueline Jossa spotted in heated discussion with husband Dan Osborne as he returns to family home after moving out
JACQUELINE Jossa has been spotted in a heated discussion with husband Dan Osborne as he returned to the family home after moving out.
EastEnder star Jacqueline split from TOWIE alum Dan Osborne, 33, earlier this month.

The pair called time on their eight-year relationship after The Sun told how her attempts to save their partnership failed.
Recently, she was seen without her wedding ring after Dan moved into a home near Southend-on-Sea – which he bought without her knowledge before the split.
Now, the couple have been seen in what appeared to be a heated discussion on Tuesday morning, as Dan returned to the home they shared.
Dan was in the car while Jacqueline could be seen speaking to him through the window looking animated.
At one point, the actress held her hand up towards her face as she spoke to Dan, and appeared frustrated by the exchange.
