Gerwyn Price leaps to his own defence and snaps ‘you can’t just forget me’ over Premier League darts criticis

GERWYN PRICE has fired back at critics who questioned his Premier League selection this year.

‘The Iceman’ has been in terrific form in the major, racking up two nightly wins.

World No.12 Price currently sits fourth in the table and is on track to make finals night at the O2.

Price and Nathan Aspinall’s inclusion in the line-up this year was criticised by World Grand Prix Champion Mike De Decker and then World No.6 Dave Chisnall.

But Aspinall responded in stellar fashion picking up his first European Tour title on Sunday and Price has won the Players Championship Two.

The Welsh star believes his and two-time major winner Aspinall’s serial winning success over the past few years warrants their pick.

He told talkSPORT: “They can all say what they want. You can’t just forget me and Nathan [Aspinall] are not just one-offs.

“We have been doing it for the last ten years consistently. The likes of those other players are very inconsistent.

“They need to do it in more than one tournament or one season to be picked in the Premier League.

“It’s not an easy tournament to be involved in. You don’t just get gifted from one simple tournament.

“I knew in my head that I still had the game. I just wasn’t getting the results. But it’s changing this year.”

Price was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the European Darts Trophy by Michael van Gerwen despite averaging a remarkable 107.

It was Van Gerwen’s first win over Price on the Euro Tour since 2019 after the Dutchman had lost in Gibraltar, Leverkusen and in Wieze.

Price returns to action this Thursday at the Premier League in Newcastle on Night Eight and will once again face Van Gerwen.

‘Should I turn German?’ – Premier League Darts star teases shock nationality change

NATHAN ASPINALL has cheekily hinted at a nationality change – after getting “unbelievable” support at the European Darts Trophy final.

The Asp, 33, beat Ryan Joyce 8-4 to win his maiden European Tour title on Sunday.

The Stockport star received a thunderous reception from the German crowd[/caption]

Aspinall averaged 98 and crashed in five 180s as he beat Joyce in front of a partisan crowd in Germany.

The Stockport thrower had demolished World No1 Luke Humphries on his way to the final.

And he was given raucous support from the floor at a packed-out Lokhalle, bagging £30,000 in the process.

Following his win, a delighted Aspinall joked to the adoring crowd: “Should I turn German?

“[I could] play with [Martin] Schindler at the World Cup?”

Aspinall raced into a 4-1 lead over Joyce and didn’t let the Geordie back into the contest.

The 33-year-old continued: “It felt like it was written in the stars.

“Ryan is a great guy and a top player, and it was great to share the stage with him in the final.

“This is what I needed. This will help me believe in myself, and it shows I’m still good enough to compete against the top boys.

“Because of the situation I’ve been in over the last few years with the injuries and the dartitis, this is probably my proudest moment.

“The crowd were unbelievable. The support I got was amazing. This honestly means so much to me.”

Aspinall will return on Thursday in Newcastle for the Darts Premier League.

The Asp looks to have hit form at just the right time – with Joyce admitting he was “outclassed” in the final.

Daredevil: Born Again Brought Back Wilson Bethel as Bullseye and Thank God MCU Rejected Him for Another Marvel Role

Marvel’s infamous villain problem has some pretty iconic exceptions. On the small screen, while Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin has been winning hearts, there is no denying that Wilson Bethel is also cementing himself as Benjamin Poindexter as one of the best villains that Marvel has produced. Although Daredevil: Born Again has benefited immensely from his return, […]
