Big blow for aviation lovers as Dublin Airport announces major closure in just DAYS
DUBLIN Airport has announced a popular spot loved by thousands is set to close in DAYS.
“The Mound” viewing area on Old Airport Road will be shut for examination next week.

But fear not, it will be closed for only a couple of hours on Wednesday, April 2nd, meaning it will reopen the following day.
The closure will allow the staff of Dublin Airport to examine the area, which will improve the viewing facilities for the public, such as making it more accessible and comfortable for the community.
This comes from Dublin Airport’s planning application to create a new dedicated viewing area for the public to watch planes take off and land on the runway.
The proposed Aircraft Observation Facility will provide a comfortable and safe space for the community to view aircraft movements, with a clear view of the south runway and the cross-wind runway at the airport.
It will also include a car park with 22 parking spaces, including four spaces dedicated to people with reduced mobility and family spaces, bike parking and an elevated covered platform with seating.
The viewing point will also be fully lit, with solar panels on the site providing power.
However, aviation spotters will not see any improvements made in the coming days as it will take time and “subject to planning approval”, meaning it may not change until next year or so.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Dublin Airport said: “Please note that the “The Mound” viewing area on Old Airport Road will be closed on Wednesday, April 2nd, between 10am and 4pm.
“This is to allow for further examination works to be carried out by daa that may – in time and subject to planning approval – lead to the development of much-needed improved viewing facilities for the public.
Meanwhile, Dublin Airport bosses have opened four new food and drink outlets – just in time for summer.
Jetsetters now have “more choice and higher standards than ever before”.
A string of new outlets are set to open up, including a new Pret a Manger, a new Italian restaurant offering pizzas and pasta, a new Korean fried chicken outlet alongside an Asian fast casual concept in Terminal 1.
And Terminal 2 is set for a brand-new wine bar at the heart of the departures lounge as well as a traditional Irish bar later this year.
Dublin Airport chiefs are working closely with food and beverage partners SSP and KSG to ensure other passenger improvements are being built into the new and revamped units, including more seating and more charging points.
Passengers travelling through Terminal 1 will spot some revamped outlets and a new bar.
Over recent days, the airport welcomed the re-opening of an enlarged Uppercrust outlet in Terminal 1 landside.
Passengers who like to kick off their holidays with an airport drink will be spoiled for choice.
The much-awaited Garden Terrace bar has re-opened in Terminal 1 airside after closing last November for upgrades.
The new-look bar now seems to feature a different seating arrangement, along with more greenery and a more modern vibe compared to before.
The new Arthur Guinness Bar finally opened its doors in Terminal 1 airside.
Terminal 2 has seen the re-opening of the fully revamped Butlers Chocolate Cafe in Terminal 2 airside.
