Exact day Scotland to be hotter than St Tropez as temperatures soar to 17C

SCOTS have been promised an Awesome start to April – with hot and sunny conditions blazing through the month.

British Summertime begins tomorrow and the weather is responding with a hot spell to rival the Spanish Costas and even Turkey.

Tomorrow will see skies clear as high pressure draws up warm air from the continent, placing traditional European hotspots in the shade.

While Scots can expect 17C on Wednesday, the Catalan port of Barcelona will be a wet and chilly 15C.

St Tropez on the French Riviera will labour under cloud and a high of just 16C and it’s coats on in the Turkish city of Istanbul, at just 13C.

Aiden McGivern of the Met Office explained the reasons for the spring bounce.

He said: “It will be a grey start for many, particularly in the south.

“That gets out of the way by mid-morning. The cloud then breaks up very nicely into the afternoon.

“Blue skies for the vast majority, with some patchy cloud in the northeast.”

He said inland areas will see blue skies for much of the day, with temperatures reaching the mid-teens Celsius across Scotland.

He added: “And that’s just the start of it because we have high pressure building into the UK from the south for the start of April.

“That high sets up shop just to the east of the country and draws up clear skies and increased warmth from Tuesday onwards.

“In fact, temperatures will rise by Wednesday and Thursday into the low 20s.

“So it’s going to feel very warm and very nice indeed for the start of April.

“And we keep that fine weather going right through the week.”

Easter does not arrive until the latter part of the month, when many families will be jetting off on foreign breaks.

But things look cracking for stay-at-home Scots on the Bank Holiday weekend, according to the long-range forecast from the Met Office.

For the period including the Easter Weekend, starting on Good Friday, April 18, the Met Office states: “Weather patterns are most likely to remain slow moving through the middle of April.

“High pressure will probably be centred to the north of the UK, bringing a lot of fine and dry weather.

“If there are any interludes of rain or showers, particularly later in the month, these are more likely to affect the south of the UK.

“Temperatures are likely to be above average overall, and feeling warm inland with light winds during the day, although some cold nights are still possible under any clear skies.”

The downside to the sunny outlook here is that Scotland will continue to experience much lower rainfall than normal, which may have repercussions later in the summer.

Earlier this month, environment watchdogs SEPA revealed that Scotland’s winter was drier than normal and only above-average rainfall in spring would avert difficulties later in the year.

Before some showers arrived in the last few days, places like Fife and Dundee had seen just 10 per cent of their normal March rainfall.

‘I’ve been dead 11 times’ – Golf cult hero John Daly says he’s ‘like Lazarus’ after latest health scare

JOHN DALY has broken his silence following his latest health scare – and is already back on the links.

The two-major champion is famed for his love of cigarettes, Hooters chicken and wild partying.

Daly sparked worry among his fans after he underwent emergency surgery in January.

The 58-year-old posted a snap from a hospital bed after going under the knife for a hand injury.

Daly has undergone 16 surgeries over the last four years.

But just over two months on from the op, he made his triumphant return to action at the Hoag Classic in California last week.

Daly joked: “I didn’t think I’d been out here for three decades, I’ve only been dead eleven times.

“I’m like Lazarus, I just keep coming back from the dead.”

Daly played all three rounds at the tournament, shooting 74, 72, and 71 to finish tied 64th on +4.

He continued: ‘It’s good to be back. It’s been a little brutal, but the hand’s about 80 percent. So figured I’d come here.

“The tendons were all wrapped around each other. [The doctor] doesn’t understand how I played last year.

“But he put it back, attached it to the forefinger or something.

“16 surgeries in four years, I’ve lost count pretty much.”

Cult-hero Daly, often seen strolling around the course with a cigarette in his mouth, is famed for his colourful outfits.

Nicknamed Wild Thing, he won the PGA Championship in 1991 and The Open in 1995.

He was ranked as a career-high World No23 in 2005 and is famed for his eccentric persona on and off the course.

Daly recently revealed how a drunk fan once ended up footing his $27,000 (£22,000) strip club bill after he missed the cut at The Masters.

“I had a girlfriend Shanae, she was beautiful, I loved her. And she goes, ‘I’m gonna take you to the t***y bar’.

“We went straight to the dungeon downtown, Augusta.”

He went on to say: “When I paid my tab of $27,000 there was a drunk sitting behind me [yelling] ‘John how you doing man? I got your tab don’t worry about it!’

“I said ‘You do NOT want this tab dude, no way!’ and he said ‘let me see it’.

“[He saw it was for] $27,000 and he looked back and he goes: ‘I got you.'”
