Meghan and Harry are TOXIC, blasts Africa charity boss & Prince ‘demanded she publicly defend Duchess’ in bitter row

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle have been slammed as “toxic” by the boss of the duke’s African charity, from which he resigned earlier this week.

In the latest update to their bitter row, Dr Sophie Chandauka also claimed the prince once “demanded” her to “publicly defend” Meghan.

The chair of charity Sentebale, set up by the Duke of Sussex and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, has found herself at the centre of a dispute with trustees at the organisation.

After the two founding princes sensationally quit the charity this week, slamming Dr Chandauka’s leadership as “untenable”, the chair has hit back, calling Harry and Meghan’s brand “toxic”.

Speaking to the Financial Times, she said: “The number one risk for this organisation was the toxicity of its lead patron’s brand”.

The chair also claimed the Prince tried to use the charity “as an extension of the Sussex PR Machine” to try and protect Meghan’s reputation.

Dr Chandauka said she had been once asked by the prince’s team to defend Meghan in the face of negative media coverage.

She added: “I said no, we’re not setting a precedent by which we become an extension of the Sussex PR machine.”

In her first interview since the row erupted, she also issued a strong message to the Duke of Sussex, saying: “The team is resolved that Sentebale will live on, with or without you.”

Dr Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer, was selected to be chair of the trustees last year.

But it is understood these members strongly disagreed with the decision and wanted her to step down – a move which has seen her sue.

After her refusal to quit, many disgruntled trustees left the charity, as relations “broke down beyond repair” – a move that was followed by the charity’s two co-founders.

Following their departure, Chandauka released an explosive statement in which she slammed “unthinkable” infighting in the organisation as well as made claims that there had been a “cover-up”.

In a statement given to the Mail, Chandauka alleged there had been “weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, and misogynoir”.

Misogynoir is the term used to describe discrimination against black women.

Princes Harry and Seeiso had said it was “devastating” to leave the charity, but slammed Chandauka for her “untenable” leadership.

Prince Harry needs to stand up to ‘racism, sexism & bullying’ row at his charity – he can’t run and hide, expert says

The Duke of Sussex, 40, has found himself at the centre of a bitter feud that has seen him resign for his beloved Sentebale organisation.

The decision came after a row with Dr Sophie Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer, who was selected to be chair of the trustees last year.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun: “It’s a complicated story, Harry and the Prince of Lesotho have been obliged to resign because they are patrons of this charity.

“The charity is in trouble, because the new chairperson has had altercations with the board of trustees and she’s accusing them of misogyny. She’s accusing them of racism.

“And on this board of trustees are friends of Harry’s, including Mark Dyer, who helped him set up the charity.

“So it’s very personal to Harry, and he was obviously advised by his lawyers just to stand down for the moment because he couldn’t be embroiled in this kind of mess.”

The expert added: “Harry’s just going to have to stand up and fight for it if he can.

“But he’s going to have to do it behind the scenes.

“He can’t do it in a public way, because she might even try to sue Harry and the Prince of Lesotho.”

In a statement, they said: “With heavy hearts, we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees who have had to do the same.

“It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”

They added: “What’s transpired is unthinkable.

“We are in shock that we have to do this, but we have a continued responsibility to Sentebale’s beneficiaries, so we will be sharing all of our concerns with the Charity Commission as to how this came about.”

The Charity Commission has confirmed that an investigation is underway into the charity, which was set up to support those living with HIV and Aids in Africa.

Harry and Seeiso said Chandauka’s behaviour forced them to consider the “unthinkable” decision of resigning.

In response, the chair appeared to suggest Harry and Seeiso were using the charity as a “vanity project”, saying she would not be “intimidated” by them.

She also slammed “people in this world who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat people…then play the victim card and use the very press they disdain”.

Dr Chandauka has now also argued that Harry’s move to the US worsened the situation at the charity.

She said the controversy that surrounded his move impacted Sentebale’s ability to both diversify its donor pool and make senior hires.

When the Sussex’s resided in the UK they attended British events like the West End musical Hamilton in August 2018 or Cirque du Soleil’s Totem show at the Royal Albert Hall in January 2019.

These high-profile appearances pulled in thousands for Sentebale – which helps young boys struggling in South Africa.

Once Meghan and Harry stepped down from their Royal duties in January 2020 he dramatically moved to the US they stopped attending these prominent events.

The funding, made up of proceeds from ticket sales, then started to dry up and the fundraising for the charity was reportedly made harder.

With the move swirled by controversy, the pair’s popularity dropped somewhat which also affected donations.

Harry setup Sentebale after visiting Lesotho on his gap year in 2004.

It was on the trip that he met his future co-founder, Prince Seeiso, who had also lost his mum the year before.

In their resignation statement, the pair said they had started the charity, which means “forget-me-not”, in honour of their mums.

The Sussexes have been approached for comment.

Timeline of events at Sentebale

2004: Prince Harry spends two months in Lesotho in a working visit during his gap year. Here he meets Aids orphans and vulnerable young people.

2006: Inspired by his visit two years prior, he setups up Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, taking the name from the Sesotho language for the phrase “forget me not”.

2010: The first polo cup is held. Harry has regularly played in the annual tournament, helping to raise more than £11 million since the tournament’s creation.

2015: Harry attends the official opening of the charity’s flagship Mamohato Children’s Centre in Lesotho.

2020: Following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step back as senior royals, Harry made his first public speech to Sentebale.

2023: Sophie Chandauka is appointed to the role of chair after Johnny Hornby resigns, following his five years in the position.

2024: Harry visits Lesotho in October for the first time in six years to showcase Sentebale’s work.

2025: In March, princes Harry and Seeiso release a joint statement announcing their resignation amid a row between the trustees and Chandauka.

In response, Chandauka slams “weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, and misogynoir” at the charity.

Brendan Rodgers admits Celtic star is ‘more likely to move on’ than stay and pays tribute to ace he ‘loves as a person’

BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed he’s given up hope of Greg Taylor agreeing a new deal at Celtic.

The left-back has been in talks over a contract extension for months.

But negotiations have now stalled – with Rodgers admitting he’ll need to look elsewhere for back-up for incoming Kieran Tierney.

He said: “My idea was always to keep Greg and it still is.

“But I’ve been in this position so many times and I can read situations.

“It’s probably more likely now that Greg will move on than stay, which is a big shame for me because I love him as a person.

“And I love his game because it’s suited to how we work.

“It’s not financial but I respect his position because he wants to feel he’ll play every week.

“Whoever is in next year with Kieran will still play a lot of games but my feeling is that Greg may well move on.

“I know between now and the end of the season he’ll give his all.”

Celts extended their lead at the top of the Premiership with a 3-0 home win overt Hearts.

Daizen Maeda took his tally for the season to 30 with a double with Jota also hitting the net.

Rodgers added: “It’s not bad for someone who isn’t supposedly a goalscorer!

“I just think whoever he plays, he’s so honest to the game.

“If he’s on the side he’s pressing and getting in behind looking to cross.

“If he’s through the middle then he’s penetrating centrally.

“I spoke to him about the set-up in the first-half where he needed to take an extra touch to link the game a little bit better.

“But I think what everyone is seeing now is his actual finishing quality.

“There is also a variety in his finishing.

“He’s getting in to score his one-v-ones with left foot, right foot and headers.

“He’s got a real good repertoire of finishes.

“Listen, I don’t have a magic ball but before I came in here I looked at the players I was going to work with and I could see his history at Yokohama.

“I could see his numbers and his types of goals.

“In my first pre-season back our in Japan, he scored a hat-trick. I could see his movement and his runs and his finishing.

“Of course, we had Kyogo here with Adam Idah.

“But I always like to have a press at the top end of the pitch who brings intensity to the game.

“For me, he brings that with the runs. And goals.”

Rodgers was thrilled with the victory which takes Celts closer to the title.
He added:  “We were very good.

“We needed to respond after our last home game here and it’s never easy coming back after the international break.

“We’ve had lots of players away with lots of travel.

“But I thought the connection of the team was very good, especially in the first-half with the three goals we scored outstanding.

“We were then able to control the second half.”

Senior Labour MP branded a disgrace after she uses taxpayers’ cash to pay for pet dog to live with her at London home

A SENIOR Labour MP is using taxpayers’ cash to pay “pet rent” so she can live with her cockapoo dog in London.

Taiwo Owatemi is a government whip who is helping to get £5 billion of cuts to disability benefits through parliament.

But a bombshell document reveals the Coventry North West MP is charging taxpayers £900 a year extra in rent so her pet pooch Bella can live with her.

Campaigners said the claim was a “disgrace” .

Hannah Campbell, 41, lost her left leg when she was blown up serving in the Iraq War.

The mum-of-three – who is now a disability rights campaigner – told The Sun on Sunday: “This is a disgrace.

“It’s one set of rules for them and one set of rules for everyone else.

“They are not leading by example.

“When disability money is being cut, to hear that an MP has received £900 for a dog really is shocking.”

Hannah was blown up and buried alive while serving in Iraq in 2007.

She lost her left leg, had a brain injury, and suffered shrapnel wounds that later led to part of her stomach being removed and has PTSD.

The war hero now campaigns to raise awareness of the challenges facing people with disabilities.

She added: “As a disabled person, I know how vulnerable most people on benefits are – and I cannot support the cuts.

“I acknowledge that difficult decisions have to be made to balance the books.

“I’d suggest they start with the politicians and their dogs.”

Ms Owatemi made the pet rent claim in August 2024 alongside other housing costs.

Labour party sources said it was common for landlords to charge extra rent for pets.

The pets for cash row has echoes of the infamous MPs expenses scandal, which saw politicians hammered for claiming expenses for things like duck houses.

John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “It’s surely enough for MPs to get the rent on a second home paid for without the need to pick up the tab for their furry friends as well.

“No one begrudges a politician wanting a pet, but they should pay for the cost themselves.”

MPs have just been given a pay rise – meaning they will now earn a massive £93,904 a year.

They can also claim expenses to help cover work and living costs if their constituency is outside London.

Ms Owatemi declined requests for comment, but a Labour Party spokesman defended the pet claim.

The spokesman said: “MPs are required to work in two locations, and this is a requirement for living in this house.

“It is the same for many other MPs and has been approved by the parliamentary expenses watchdog.”

A spokesman for the expenses watchdog IPSA said: “MPs are required to work in two places: their constituency and in Westminster.

“IPSA is committed to supporting a Parliament where people without the private finances to fund working from two locations themselves are not prevented from becoming an MP.

“That is why we fund accommodation costs, within strict limits. It is common for landlords to include additional surcharges in rental agreements.”

IPSA said they incorrectly told the MP to itemise the pet rent on her invoice.

They said: “On this occasion, IPSA agreed to fund a surcharge but gave incorrect advice as to how it should be described. We have apologised directly to the MP and are sorry for any confusion.”

The controversial £900 claim could be just the tip of the pet expenses iceberg.

As a government whip, Ms Owatemi is part of a group of senior Labour MPs in charge with enforcing party discipline and quelling rebellions.

This includes cutting nearly £5 billion cuts to disability benefits.

The government’s own impact assessment says this will drive 250,000 Brits into relative poverty, including 50,000 children.

No10 insiders said they are braced for their “biggest rebellion yet” on the cuts.

Up to 60 Labour MPs could rebel and vote against them.

Ms Owatemi has lavished praise on her pet pooch on social media.

She regularly posts pictures of her Bella on the campaign trail, and has created Valentines Day and Christmas cards featuring her beloved dog.
