Ronan O’Gara hints at drastic career change as he admits struggling La Rochelle ‘might be better off without me’

RONAN O’GARA has hinted at a potential exit from La Rochelle after they slipped to a fifth defeat on the bounce.

The two-time European Champions Cup winners lost 26-21 to Racing 92 in the Top 14 at the weekend.

It was their third straight defeat in the league and leaves them in eighth place.

And speaking afterwards, O’Gara suggested the team could be “better off without me”.

The former Munster out-half – who is contracted until 2027 – said: “It’s a crisis, we have to accept it.

“We had an unacceptable first half for a Top 14 team, after the defeat in Lyon.

“It is my club, I’d like to fight for it, do what’s necessary.

“Rumours about Australia aren’t true. But, you have to ask yourself: are the players fighting for me, for the staff? Obviously today, no.

“There is no proof I can get the team out of this crisis, but I will fight.

“Maybe the message is not getting through. It’s a real option if the message is not getting through that it might be better without me.

“I haven’t lost confidence in myself, that’s for sure, but you need to ask the question.

“Can you imagine [what] the fans who watched that think?

“It’s not my rugby, it’s not my state of mind, it’s not my attitude, but the players represent me.

“Right now, there’s a disconnect.”

Their latest defeat came just days after he rubbished speculation linking him with the Australia head coach gig.

His name has been floated around the Wales job since Warren Gatland’s departure as well as the Wallabies gig upon Joe Schmidt’s exit later this year.

And while the Munster icon has previously spoken about feeling like ‘a Judas’ were he to renege on his current contract, he has not been shy in acknowledging that the Australian job would appeal to him.

However, speaking to Off the Ball Breakfast segment, he insisted he would be staying in France until the end of his contract.

He said: “You get enjoyment out of it even in tough times and it is tough at the moment.

“But the relationships aren’t strong if you change your behaviour then towards those people who have given me the possibility to shine at test level – if I wanted to do that.

“And I don’t want to do that yet because I feel like I’ve such unfinished business at La Rochelle so I’m going to be there until 2027.

“I’m not going to Australia, I’m not going to Wales. I’m locked in here and it’s important that people in La Rochelle understand that.”

My daily cocaine habit left me blowing chunks of skin out my nose before it collapsed leaving a gaping hole in my face

A WOMAN has issued a stark cocaine warning after snorting so much her nose collapsed – leaving a gaping hole in her face.

Kelly Kozyra was on a night out in 2017 when she was offered a line of cocaine by a friend.

Kelly’s septum completely deteriorated and she got a hole on the outside of her face which grew to the size of a dime[/caption]

Within a matter of months, the 38-year-old said she was using the class-A drug day and night – swapping out eating and sleeping to fuel her drug habit.

Kelly, who lives in Chicago, Illinois, US, soon began experiencing bleeding within her nose and was even blowing out chunks of skin from her nostrils.

Convinced the injury would heal itself, Kelly continued to snort cocaine daily, forking out a mammoth $80,000 (around £63,200) over 19 months on the party drug.

Shocking photos reveal the state of Kelly’s eroded nasal septum, which had formed one large hole and deformed the shape of her nose.

Kelly compared the look of her nose to that of reality star Daniella Westbrook whose long-term drug addiction led to the rotting of her septum.

After interventions from friends and family, Kelly decided to live a sober life in 2021 and has since undergone 15 surgeries to help reconstruct her damaged nose.

Kelly, who plans on becoming a substance abuse counsellor, hopes her story inspires other users struggling with addiction.

Kelly said: “I met back with some old friends and ended up using cocaine with someone there.

“I began using cocaine day and night. I wasn’t eating, I wasn’t sleeping. I was holding a job but eventually I had to quit.

“I’d been using cocaine for three months daily when I started experiencing bleeding in my nose and was blowing out chunks of skin, then noticed the septum was deteriorating.

“I thought this couldn’t happen to me and I wasn’t doing that much but I was doing a hell of a lot.

“I thought it would just heal itself, but I still continued snorting. The septum completely deteriorated. Then I got a hole on the outside of my face, which grew to the size of a dime.

“Eventually I had to shove my pinky up my nose to hold all the cocaine up there so I didn’t lose it out the hole.

“My nose looked similar to Daniella Westbrook. I got lucky that it was during Covid and everyone was wearing masks so no one could see my face.

“I kept telling people I had a sinus infection and was lying my way through it. I was horrified by the way it looked.

It destroyed everything in my life, including my nose

Kelly Kozyra

“It destroyed everything in my life, including my nose.”

Kelly has since undergone 15 reconstructive surgeries to help restore her nose, including moving skin from her forehead to create a new tip and taking an artery from her arm to rebuild the blood supply from her cheek to her nose.

Kelly said: “It looks like a nose now. This entire experience has taught me so much. Now I live day by day, that’s how we’re taught to live through the programme.

“I don’t have any plans of relapsing or using. I think being open about it helps me and other people. The more we talk about drug use, the less stigmatised it becomes.”

Are you addicted to cocaine?

The UK Addiction Treatment Centres says if you’re worried you or someone you know may be addicted to cocaine, there are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Are you using cocaine more frequently or in larger amounts than you intended?
  • Do you feel unable to stop taking cocaine even though you want to?
  • Have your personal relationships suffered as a result of your cocaine use?
  • Have you been lying to friends or family about your cocaine use?
  • Do you continue to take cocaine even though it’s causing problems in your life?
  • Do you experience physical or mental health issues such as anxiety, depression or paranoia as a result of your cocaine use?
  • Do you experience cocaine withdrawal if you haven’t used it for a while?
  • Have you lost interest in activities that don’t involve cocaine?

If you answered yes to any of the questions, you may be exhibiting signs of cocaine addiction and you should seek immediate help.

EastEnders viewers ‘work out’ Sonia Fowler’s exit as major character makes comeback after Martin’s harrowing death

EASTENDERS fans think they’ve cracked Sonia Fowler’s departure as a familiar face returns following Martin’s tragic death.

Following Martin Fowler’s tragic death, fans have speculated over which remaining members of the Fowler family will return for his funeral and how Sonia Fowler will exit the BBC soap.

Sonia’s daughter Bex is returning after receiving the devastating news about her dad Martin’s death[/caption]

EastEnders bosses have confirmed that Vicki Fowler – Martin’s niece – will be returning, but with a new actress taking on the role.

And confirmed fans’ hopes that Bex Fowler, Martin’s daughter, will return to Walford for his funeral, after leaving in 2020.

Following a first look clip released on Sunday, Bex’s mum Sonia calls her daughter to give her the devastating news.

Sitting up in her hospital bed, an emotional Sonia called her daughter and asked if she was with anyone.

After Bex replied, Sonia said: “I’m not snooping Bex, It’s just I, erm, I need to tell you something and it would be really lovely if there was a friend with you there right now.”

Sonia continued: “Oh god I really wish I was there with you now darlin’. It’s about your dad.”

Sonia struggled to contain her tears as she said: “There was an accident, urm…. and he died darlin’.”

As Bianca and Lauren stand at the foot of her hospital bed in tears – with Lauren cradling baby Julia – Sonia told Bex: “No it’s real. He died and urm…. I’m so sorry.”

Martin died after a steel beam crushed him, after Cindy caused Reiss to crash into the Queen Vic, which ignited a fire and explosion.

Bex was last played by Jasmine Armfield from 2014 to 2020, when the character decided to have a gap year before attending Oxford university and travel the world.

Bex will jet in after years spent travelling the world to be with her mum and the rest of the family as they lay Martin to rest.

The tragedy will hit Bex hard as she tries to adjust to everything that’s happened in her absence, including Sonia’s incarceration for murder and the arrival of her newborn sister.

Now, soap fans are convinced Bex’s return will lead to Sonia’s exit storyline, as she will decide to leave to live with her.

Taking to social media, one fan predicted: “I think this’ll tie in with mum Sonia’s departure.”

Most devastating soap deaths

SOAP viewers are frequently left heartbroken after watching some of their favourite characters bite the dust.

Here is a list of the most devastating deaths that have taken place in soapland over the years.

EASTENDERS

Barry Evans – Evil Janine (Charlie Brooks) lured her trusting fiance to Scotland for a quickie marriage after learning he was dying.

Her plan to inherit Barry’s fortune was thwarted when Barry told her that the doctors had mixed up his medical files.

Furious that she was no longer set for a windfall, she pushed Barry off a cliff after telling him their love was “fake”.

Bradley Branning – Bradley was accused of killing Stacey Slater’s rapist Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb) after he punched him twice on the night he died.

He was spotted in the Square by a police woman who chased him up a fire escape.

Bradley lost his balance and tragically plunged to his death.

CORONATION STREET

Tina McIntyre – Tina was getting it on with Peter Barlow – despite him being married to Carla Connor.

When she threatened to reveal the truth, Carla’s brother Rob got into a physical altercation with her.

Tina lost her footing and fell off a balcony – then warned Rob she was going to tell the cops he pushed her.

In a panic, Rob brutally clobbered her over the head with a metal pipe.

Molly Dobbs – Molly was one of the victims in Corrie’s 2010 tram crash, alongside Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold).

Married to Tyrone (Alan Halsall), Molly had been having an affair with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) in the months before her death.

This resulted in the birth of their son, Jack (Kyran Bowes), who was named after Jack Duckworth.

As fate would have it, Kevin’s wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) was by Molly’s side in her final moments.

Sally was stunned as Molly confessed Kevin was Jack’s father, before dying of her injuries.

Vera Duckworth – Having appeared regularly in Corrie since the 1970s, there was no denying Vera Duckworth was an iconic character.

Alongside her husband Jack, the pair formed one of the soap’s most beloved couples.

Viewers were heartbroken when Vera was killed off in 2008, being discovered having passed away peacefully in her chair.

Liz Dawn, who played Vera, made a brief return two years later for Bill Tarmey’s exit as Jack.

Paul Foreman – Fans were heartbroken when Paul Foreman succumbed to his illness after battling motor neurone disease.

Introduced in 2018 as David Platt’s (Jack P. Shepherd) cellmate, he later embarked on a romance – and marriage – with vicar Billy Mayhew.

The MND storyline was announced in 2023 – with the expectation it would result in the character’s death.

EMMERDALE

Sarah Sugden – After the family got into financial problems, Sarah’s son Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) decided to make some quick cash from an insurance company by setting fire to the Sugden barn.

He didn’t realise his mum was inside the building, and she got trapped in the blaze.

Nine villagers – The shocking 1993 plane crash episode brought in 18 million viewers for Emmerdale.

Mark Hughes was killed by a falling wall, Archie Brooks was burned by jet fuel, Elizabeth Pollard was killed by debris and newcomer Leonard Kempinski died in a car crash caused by the crash.

Five other non-recurring characters from the village also died.

HOLLYOAKS

Carmel McQueen – The talented singer died in shocking scenes when a train crashed into a her family’s car.

Carmel managed to free her cousin Theresa from the rubble – but got stuck in it herself.

Moments later the train exploded and Carmel died in the arms of her family members, promising to be their guardian angel.

Another added: “Bex will most likely persuade Sonia to move with her.”

A third penned: “I hope this means we can see Sonia and Julia heading off with Bex for a fresh start.”

Sonia Fowler actress Natalie Cassidy, 41, told bosses of her decision to leave the hit BBC One soap last summer.

Natalie, who joined the EastEnders back in 1993, aged just ten years, said: “I feel extremely sad to be writing this, but also very excited.

“After another 11 solid years back on The Square, I have decided it’s time to move on to pastures new. EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show.

“Thank you to Chris Clenshaw for the opportunity to be such a big part of the 40th anniversary – it’s an honour. See ya, Sonia, going but never forgotten.”

Speaking of Bex’s return, EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jasmine home to EastEnders as part of Martin’s farewell.

“There’s no way that Bex would miss her dad’s funeral, and Sonia needs her eldest daughter more than ever.

“It’s been five years in which Bex has gone out into the world, so she’ll come back with renewed wisdom and experience.”

On her return as Bex Fowler, Jasmine Armfield said: “It’s wonderful to be back at EastEnders and to see so many familiar faces.

“It’s amazing for me to come home, but for Bex, it’s an absolutely devastating time because she’s lost her dad.

“She’s grown up a lot, having spent the past few years travelling, so we’re going to see a much more mature and grown-up version of Bex this time around.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One or stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.

“I’m sitting here spitting feathers! And I’m allergic to feathers, but I’m that angry at this fix that I’m still spitting them,” said a third.

While fourth fan also commented on Anton Ferdinand’s score: “Here’s the thing. That was NOT worth 40. Apart from anything else you actually could NOT see Anton’s feet due to the smoke. Every year, the judges FIX the votes. Panel change please.”

‘One of the strangest things I’ve ever seen on any stage’ – ‘Bizarre’ moment darts star offers rival advice mid-final

FANS have been left baffled after darts veteran Ross Montgomery coached his opponent during their final.

The 62-year-old Scot beat Graham Usher 5-1 on Saturday night to win the World Seniors Championship.

The match turned at 1-1 after Usher missed a whopping TEN set darts to move ahead.

During the horror leg, Montgomery bizarrely gave his rival advice in an awkward exchange.

Usher was visibly frustrated after his seventh miss, taking a brief moment to pause and wipe his palms with a towel.

Montgomery went over to him and the pair briefly spoke.

Usher returned to the oche and fired another three off target before the man nicknamed “The Boss” kept his composure to wrap up the leg on double top.

Montgomery then approached the 51-year-old and again said something while this time pointing to his head.

Usher looked confused and pulled a perplexed face down the camera.

Fans were left equally baffled, with one saying: “Genuinely one of strangest and most patronising things I’ve seen on any darts stage.”

Another added: “How odd.”

A third wrote: “Utter madness.”

Explaining the move, Montgomery said: “Graham has kicked my a*** many times because he’s a fantastic player. I told him on stage ‘Graham, just calm down and be yourself son’.

“If you win, you win. Just calm down. This is all about a game of darts.

“Graham is a fantastic player; he will be back. He will be kicking backsides.”

It was not the only strange interaction Usher was involved at the World Seniors Championship over the weekend, approaching opponent Leonard Gates and giving him a death stare on stage.
