NEW flights to Thailand are being launched by a low-cost airline this year from the UK.
Norse Airways has confirmed plans to start a new route from London Gatwick to Bangkok in Thailand.

AlamyThe new route is the first Asian destination for the airline[/caption]
Offering cheap long-haul flights from the UK, the new route will start from October 26 with four services a week.
One-way fares start from £295pp although we found some for as little as £203pp when travelling in March 2026.
This is much cheaper than the current cheapest fares starting from £438 with Thai Airways.
Other airlines with direct UK to Bangkok flights include Singapore Air, Emirates and British Airways, with return fares around £700 (compared to Norse’s £527pp).
Of course passengers will have to pay for all the extras on top, as the cheapest fare doesn’t include luggage or meals.
However, the new budget route will make it much cheaper to visit Thailand’s capital city.
The airline’s founder Bjørn Tore Larsen said they were “thrilled” to launch their first Asian destination.
They added: “We’re excited to launch direct flights between London Gatwick and Bangkok, a top choice among our travelers.
“This addition not only strengthens our existing network between Asia but also builds on our routes from London Gatwick to destinations across the Atlantic and South Africa.
“For us it’s all about offering more travel options at great prices without compromising on comfort and service for those looking to enjoy a beautiful and warm winter sunshine destination.”
Passengers will fly on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with either economy or premium economy options.
However, the airline has also confirmed they would be scrapping a UK route this summer as well.
What is it like going to Bangkok?
The Sun’s Assistant Travel Editor Sophie Swietochowski recently visited Bangkok.
The street-food stalls in Chinatown offer plenty of dishes for less than the equivalent of £1 in local currency Thai baht.
While in Chinatown, also enjoy a night out in the nearby Soi Nana district where many once traditional shops have been transformed into fashionable bars.
But one thing worth spending a bit more money on in Bangkok is a cocktail at the Lebua Hotel’s Sky Bar, which many will recognise as a filming location from 2011 buddy comedy film The Hangover 2.
A cocktail, including the Hangovertini, a whisky treat made with rosemary, honey and apple, will set you back £30 or so.
But you can order just one and stay for the skyline views that are Bangkok’s best.
I also scored a couple of nights at the Shangri-La Bangkok hotel as part of a British Airways Holiday package.
Rooms cost around £450 less per night than at the sister hotel in London but are just as opulent.
The London Gatwick to Miami route will no longer operate from October 26.
Brits will still be able to fly with both Virgin Atlantic and British Airways who have flights to Miami from London Heathrow.

1 week agoNews 1Comments Off on ‘There’s huge belief’ – Josh van der Flier says Ireland ‘genuinely think they can do it’ as they close in on Grand Slam
JOSH VAN DER FLIER believes Ireland’s ability to stay calm in the chaos has given them the belief that they can win it all.
Ireland beat Wales to win the Triple CrownBen McShane/SportsfileJosh van der Flier insisted Ireland were calm throughout the chaotic gameBen McShane/Sportsfile
They are also two wins from a second Grand Slam in three years.
But the third victory of the campaign was the hardest yet as Ireland played with 14 men for 20 minutes after Garry Ringrose was red-carded.
With Wales’ confidence up and the closed roof in Cardiff raising the temperature and noise levels, it could have been chaotic.
But Ireland scored 17 unanswered points to earn the Triple Crown after prior wins over England and Scotland.
Van der Flier said: “It was very calm in the dressing room. There was nothing panicked about it. It was very calm.
“It was very clear. We knew what we needed to do and thankfully we managed to do it.
“It’s something that we talk about a lot about. In rugby, especially when you’re playing away from home, there’s a lot of chaos going on outside.
“But you need to be fairly calm and it needs to be quite relaxed and calm among the team.
“Obviously on the outside it’s absolute chaos, it’s noisy and it’s a lot of things are happening.
“So I’m very pleased with how the lads dealt with it all because it was a messy.”
And he insisted winning when it is chaotic gives Ireland the belief they can beat France and then Italy to claim another Slam.
The flanker added: “There’s an expectation. Every team goes into a tournament to win it.
“But, particularly in this group, I think that the lads genuinely believe they’re going to do it.
“There’s a huge belief in the group that we can be the best team in the world and that we can win every competition we enter.”
